GISBORNE BEACH BRIEF HOUSE conceptdesigns architecture Beth and Chris want to design and build their forever family home. The empty site is a flat section in Wainui, Gisborne just a couple of roads back from the beach. Their design aspirations are to create a home that is not overstated and is a place for friends and family to enjoy outdoor living. Taking advantage of the warm Gisborne climate and creating good flow from the indoors to garden and deck areas. The challenge in this concept design, is to create a cleverly designed house to satisfy the client s high design expectations while keeping within the budget. DESIGN ASPIRATIONS & PROJECT INFO A place for friends to enjoy the outdoor living. Good flow from indoors to garden/ deck areas. Open plan kitchen, dining and small living area is the heart of the home which opens with bi-folds to the deck and pool outside to the side of the house. Separate lounge with fireplace, TV, warm in winter. 4 Bedrooms all on one side Master bedroom with ensuite. A place to sit in the sun and read, window seat to capture sun in winter. Elements of wood to bring the feeling of warmth. Mono pitch roof but nothing too high, keep it cosy. Design features (choose your moments). Plenty of storage along corridor and possible garage with internal access. Somewhere to hang our coats and boots accessible from outside. Fireplace - heat recovery system transfering heat to bedroom areas. Wood elements. Large grazed sliding doors. No pokey or high level windows. Modern scandinavian look. GISBORNE BEACH IDEAS HOUSE conceptdesigns architecture PROPOSED IDEAS AND DESIGN FEATURES Entry corridor (inside) + architectural pergola (outside) as the main spine that connects the 2 main volumes between each other and to the landscape. Open plan living areas facing North and West to maximise sun. Good flow from indoors to garden/deck areas taking advantage of sun and views. Open plan kitchen, dining and small living area is the heart of the home which opens through sliding doors to the deck and pool outside. The kitchen and smaller living space will receive morning and afternoon sun. The main living space will receive all day sun. Smaller fireplace in small living area corner as a focal feature. Separate lounge with fireplace & TV that can be opened to the deck area via glazed sliding doors. Window seat in bedroom area to enjoy afternoon sun and create a private space to read books away from kids while enjoying the views. 4 Bedrooms all on one side oriented to maximise sun towards the north and west. Master bedroom with plenty of wardrobe space and ensuite. Family bathroom with bath and shower private in location and close to bedroom and kitchen / living spaces. Large laundry and garage area. Use of timber with a modern and cost effective scandinavian look 200m2 house footprint, 50m2 over the estimated 150m2 to fit the $340K budget ($2300 per m2 roughly but could be more) Plenty of glazing to allow for a modern architectural look, connection to the landscape and to allow sunlight to penetrate into the heart of the house. Large glazed sliding doors that can be opened allowing for maximum interior-exterior flow. Outdoor area with a large decking area & architectural pergola covered in vines. Pool lower down located on the northern side of the house accessible from the main deck area to allow for maximum sun and connection to the house.
