THE QUANTUM CASIMIR OPERATORS OF U q (gl ) AND THEIR EIGENVALUES arxv:10033729v1 [mathqa] 19 Mar 2010 JUNBO LI ABSTRACT We show that the quatum Casmr operators of the quatum lear group costructed early wor of Brace, Gould ad Zhag together wth oe extra cetral elemet geerate the etre ceter of U q (gl ) As a by product of the proof, we obta trgug ew formulae for egevalues of these quatum Casmr operators, whch are expressed terms of the characters of a class of fte dmesoal rreducble represetatos of the classcal geeral lear algebra Keywords: Quatum groups, Harsh-Chadra somorphsm, Ceter MR(2010) Subject Classfcato: 17B10, 17B37 1 INTRODUCTION Quatum groups orgated from the theory of soluble models of the Yag-Baxter type the mddle of 80s They have played mportat roles varous braches of mathematcs ad physcs, most otably two-dmesoal soluble models statstcal mechacs ad ot theory The study of ther structure ad represetato theory has bee the focus of research represetato theory ad cotues to attract much atteto I partcular, the dscovery of the crystal bass ad caocal bass [3, 5] s oe of the most mportat achevemet represetato theory recet years I the early 90s, a set of cetral elemets of the quatum group U q (gl ) was costructed [8, 9] We shall refer to them as the quatum Casmr operators of U q (gl ) The reaso for ths termology s the fact that these cetral elemets of U q (gl ) are the quatum aalogues of the famlar Casmr operators of the uversal evelopg algebra U(gl ) of gl gve by 1 =1 =1 E 1 2 E 2 3E 1 E 1 ( = 1,2,), where E j are the mages of the matrx uts uder the caocal embeddg ofgl U(gl ) These Casmr operators of U(gl ) play a mportat role the Iteractg Boso Model uclear physcs Ther quatum aalogues have also bee appled a smlar way Oe obvous questo was whether the quatum Casmr operators [8, 9] of U q (gl ) (supplemeted wth the obvous cetral elemet c gve by (22)) geerated the etre ceter of U q (gl ) The geeral expectato was that the aswer should be affrmatve, but o proof was ever gve as far as we ow The ma purpose of ths paper s to gve a rgorous proof The result s descrbed Theorem 41 1
