Workshop Inauguration : The inaugural function of the work shop was began on 15/02/2016 at 09:30 am with prayer by the students of MSc followed by the lighting of the Lamp. The Coordinator of the workshop Prof.C. Venkata Rao, HEAD, Department of chemistry welcomed gathering for the three day work shop and highlighted the role of spectroscopy in material characterization by use of various advanced techniques in science and how these changes are revolutionized the material characterization in the last 5-6 decades. In the presidential address Prof. R. Abbaiah Principal S.V. U college of sciences explains the role of spectroscopic techniques in science for material characterization. Prof Avula Damodaram Honourable Vice-Chancellor of S.V University was the chief guest of this function and inaugurated the work three day shop. He mentioned the importance of such workshops for the scientists, technical staff, Research students and students. He also indicated to the students to make use of such opportunities viz., workshops and conferences for their carrier development. These kind of workshops will help in improving the knowledge for the current day needs. Next the convener of the work shop Prof.Siva Umapathi told how the students are molded by the teachers in the academic institutions provided if they come out with clarity what they expected to become and what they want to be and quoted few example who became great scientists by hard work. Latter Dr.Madhusudharareddy faculty of chemistry proposed vote of thanks and Indian Academy of Sciences Bangalore acknowledged specially for their financial support. About the workshop In fact the Academy has given the permission for 150 participants to participate in the beginning. Latter there was very good response more from students to take part in the which I could not say no to them because many of them are from SV University campus itself. Therefore I have allowed them to take part in the work shop. Now I request you to enhance amount and release it to claim. On the whole the work shop had attracted the many participants attention and they expressed that they are fortunate to participate in the three day workshop where eminent Professor from distinguished institute like IISc, IIT, University of Hyderabad gave useful lectures. They also thank the Indian Academy Science Bangalore for the financial support and encouragement for sanctioning such an useful programs to SV University Tirupati which enable them to participate in the function without any registration fee by providing the lunch and snacks all these three days. Total Registered Candidates - 439 Total Attended Candidates - 363 Invited lectures Prof. Siva Umapathy Convener of the Science Academy s Lecture Workshop on Spectroscopic Techniques and Applications in Material Characterization-(STAMC-2016) Prof.Siv umapathi has talked on Laser Spectroscopy and its applications in the present scientific field. He has given a very good awareness to the students on the basic concept of spectroscopy from root level. The response of the students and other participants is very high throughout his

lecture. The questionnaire session was thought provoking to the students and many showed very good interest in the discussions. There was very good message from him to initiate very good interaction from the participants during his the two technical sessions. Dr. B. Raja kumar IIT Chennai Has talked on Cavity Ring down Spectroscopy and its applications in the Atmosphere sample characterization. His two talks were very interesting and impressed the participants very well and many participants participated in the discussions very actively. He motivated the students towards the hard work and how to develop experimental skills. Prof. S. Natarajan, He has given nice talk on X-ray diffraction and how the characterization will be done by this technique. He has give very good comprehensive understanding about the X-ray diffraction for the material characterization and acids and base concept in to the participants. It has taken the topics very well to the participants and may participants showed interest in his discussions. Prof. Hanudatta S. Atreya, He has started his discussion on NMR Spectroscopy principle and its applications in organic compounds characterization. He also discussed the two dimensional spectroscopy for the compounds and attracted the attention of the participants well and cleared the many doubts during the sessions and outside the sessions also. He has covered basic principles & the importance of NMR Spectroscopy in applied science and their usefulness to structure elucidation of organic compounds Prof. Anunay Samanta : He has talked on Fluorescence Spectroscopy and its applications. He has given the primary concerned of the Fluorescence spectroscopy with electronic and vibrational states. Collisions with other molecules cause the excited molecule to lose vibrational energy until it reaches the lowest vibrational state of the excited electronic state and explained with a Jablonski diagram. He has also explained the importance of fluorescence for the material characterization and there by analyzing the different materials by frequencies of light emitted in fluorescent spectroscopy with their relative intensities. He also explained for atomic species also in which the process is similar kind since atomic species do not have vibrational energy levels. The participants actively participated in the discussions and cleared the doubts in fluorescence spectroscopy
