Community members came to support our students. At John Burroughs Middle School, we believe in the importance of a proactive approach to positive behavior in order to prevent and stop bullying. [Pictured above] Thank you to our orchestra teacher, Ms. Mariana Astorga & drama teacher, Ms. Jennifer Heath for putting on a spectacular concert. We had over 700 family and friends in attendance to support our evening winter concert. O C T O B E R E V E N T S Rory Pullens, Executive Director for LAUSD s Arts Education made a special visit to support our arts education. [Pictured above] 6 T H G R A D E M I X I T U P D A Y The national Mix It Up at Lunch Day is a 13-year tradition with a purpose of improving intergroup relations and reducing prejudice in schools across the country. Sixth grade counselor, Mrs. Wendy Bradley and Eighth Grade Math teacher, Mrs. Olga Maye, pictured on the left coordinated the event at Burroughs MS during 6th grade lunch. Students were encouraged to sit with someone new and worked on various activities that fostered speaking to someone new. The faculty, staff and parents participated in the Halloween festivities at Burroughs MS.

They participated in the Marshmallow Challenge team building activity picture on the right promoting collaboration, innovation and creativity. J B C O U N S E L I N G D E P A R T M E N T P R E S E N T S T H E C O L L E G E S H O W C A S E C O N T E S T The JB Counseling Department presented the College Showcase Contest for all grade levels. In order to promote college awareness, students were asked to select colleges and create a college display board with information. Some of the criteria included: col- lege name, location, admissions requirement, cost of attendance, type of college, fun facts, and why they selected it. The students [pictured above] were selected as the winners in this contest and their college display boards are being showcased in the main building. Congratulations all the students. J B P A R E N T T E A C H E R The JB Parent Teacher Association hosted the annual holiday luncheon for the faculty and staff. We thank the parents for their continued support for our faculty, staff, and students!

Pioneered by Dr. Robert Peterson, Orange County Superintendent of Schools, Emeritus in 1968, this competition will include tests, interview and speech, essay and Super Quiz in the subject areas of art, language and literature, mathematics, music, science, and social science.
