2013 8 13 Lucas R. E. and Rossi - Hansberg E. On the Internal Struc- ture of Cities J Abstract With urban households rising demand for education transportation accessibility and environmental amenities as well as the increasing labor mobility housing market has been playing a major role in allocating local public goods in cities. Under - supply or imbalanced supply of local public goods may do harm to the quality of housing market development and urban competitiveness and may also affect urban residents welfare. This essay discusses the economic mechanism of how the demand and supply of local public goods are matched in housing market and how housing market responds to this matching process. Related literature and future research directions are also discussed in this essay. Key words local public goods housing market capitalization sorting expectation 1 Zheng S. Q. and Kahn M. E.
