3 Introduction / 4 General 5 Erection 3 Introduction The Rux VS 500 heavy-load support column is used as a pin-ended column in the construction of support scaffolds. It features a modular system consisting of the following components: end units with adjustable jack (the head and base components are identical), end unit with adjustable jack und integriertem Absenkkeil für RUX VS 500 with jack und Absenkkeil centre modules (H = 125 mm / 250 mm / 500 mm / 1000 mm / 2000 mm), base plate, bolt M 16 x 40 4.6 Combination of the components as per appendix 1. Combination of the components as per appendix 2. 4 General In the present structural design calculation being examined, the load capacity of the column, at a height of approx. 2.50 m to approx. 12.00 m, und die Tragfähigkeit der Stütze mit Spindeln und Absenkkeil von approx. 2.50 m to approx. 10.00 m, was determined, taking into account the following conditions: The RUX VS 500 heavy-load support column must only be subjected to loads when it is absolutely perpendicular and must be immovable at the head and the base in the horizontal plane. The column must also not be subjected, systematically, to horizontal loads, except for those caused by wind pressure. The following was also assumed: 5 Erection Before erection, all column components are to be laid out and checked for damage. Damaged parts must not be used. Dirty components are to be cleaned beforehand. The components are assembled in the horizontal position on a base consisting of square timber blocks. End units: The jacks are secured in the end units by M 16 x 145 bolts. These connections must be checked. The threads of the jack are to be greased regularly and checked for ease of action. The support units are connected, by 55 mm diameter bolts, to the jacks. The axes of these bolts must be at a right angle to the axes of the support beams. The bolt connections must also be checked. Centre modules The column modules are connected to each other by bolting them to the end flanges: 4 bolts M 16 at a column height H 8.0 m or 8 bolts M 16 for other heights ( see sketches ). Bolting of the end flanges column held horizontally at the top the jacks fully extended upper and lower support beams HE 300 B on the column ( turnable or non-turnable ) axis of the pin at the end of the jack at a right angle to the axis of the turnable support beam column situated outdoors ( wind load as per DIN 1055/4 ) The DIN 4421 ( support scaffolds ) forms the basis for dimensioning. The RUX VS 500 heavy-load support column is statically calculated in accordance with the criteria of the scaffold Group III. The characteristic values of the load capacity at the various column heights were determined. Thus, the new safety concept ( partial safety factors, verification and dimensioning loads ) will be applied to subsequent calculations. Column height 8,0 m Column height 8,0 m 4 bolts M16-4.6 8 bolts M16-4.6 8 RUX GmbH Phone +49 2331 4709-0 Fax +49 2331 4709-202 Mail rux@rux.de RUX GmbH Phone +49 2331 4709-0 Fax +49 2331 4709-202 Mail rux@rux.de 9

5 Erection Appendix 1 After the complete assembly of one column, the central columns are erected, placed in their mounting positions, aligned vertically and secured by auxilliary braces. The lifting jacks required for this purpose are mounted at the column head. The end units of the columns are to be structurally connected to the support beams ( e.g. clamps on top of the beam and, if necessary, on the bottom beam ). Centre module H = 125 mm: When the centre module is used at a height of H = 125 mm, it is to be arranged above the end unit ( base unit ). Base plate: The base plate is used when the column is employed as a base unit with no end unit and jack. The full face of the base plate must rest on the bearing surface. Appendix 5 Appendix 5 2. Main provisions DIN 4421 : 1982-08 support scaffolds, calculation design and execution. DIN 18800-1 : 1990-11 steel structures, dimensioning and design -2 : 1990-11 steel structures stability buckling -3 : 1990-11 steel structures stability buckling of plates -7 : 1983-05 steel structures, fabrication, proof of suitability Adjustment guidelines for DIN 18800 steel structures, issued 1995-07 EN 10204 : 1995-08 types of examination certificates. 3. Description The RUX VS 400 heavy-load support column is made up ( bolted together ) of end units ( with jack ) and intermediate (centre) modules of various lengths up to 12 m ( see pages 7 and 8 of the erection and instructions for use manual ). The support is of the pin-end type with the load capacity depending, in the main, on the height of the system. 4. Materials The materials to be used are listed in the drawings A1.3 to A1.17. For the steel components made of ST 52, the manufacturer must be in possession of a work s certificate 2.2 as per EN 10204. The manufacturer must also possess the major welding certificate as per DIN 18800, Part 7, Section 6.2. 5. Examination results The structural design calculation and the associated documents were examined in accordance with the regulations issued by the Ministry of Economics, Baden-Württemberg in connection with the examination of structures dated 21st May 1996 ( statute roll S.410 ). When the contents of this examination report and the make-up sheet are observed, the structural execution is in line with the current regulations for structures. 6. Use We must differentiate between two individual uses: Use 1: The beam to be supported is non-turnable. The pivot points of the pin-end column are located in the hinge pins of the jacks, at the top and bottom. Use 2: The beam to be supported can turn along its longitudinal axis. In this case, particular care is to be taken to ensure that the tilt axis, on the jack, is arranged transverse to the longitudinal axis of the beam and the load aligned on the beam ( aligning rail ). The pin-end column then runs from the bottom tilt joint to the aligning rail. On this second alternative, the loads to be absorbed are smaller. Notes for erection: any jerking movement of the horizontally assembled column is to be avoided when it is lifted into the upright position. 7. Load capacity The characteristic resistances shown in the two load diagrams ( refer to pages 9 and 10 of the instructions for erection and use ) were calculated with a material safety factor of... = 1.0. The permissible useable resistances R as per DIN 4421 (see dotted line) are therefore calculated by dividing by 1.65. The load capacities apply mainly to dead loads. 8. General provisions 8.1 Together with this examination report, the documents examined by the Regierungspräsidium Tübingen replace the stability certificate for the RUX VS 400 heavy-load support column. 8.2 The responsible site inspection authority only needs to satisfy itself that the execution, and the loads, are in accordance with the make-up sheet and this examination report. 8.3 The erection documents ( instructions for erection and use and the set of drawings ) are only to be used in their entirety and without any alterations, together with this examination report, for applications to build. 30 RUX GmbH Phone +49 2331 4709-0 Fax +49 2331 4709-202 Mail rux@rux.de RUX GmbH Phone +49 2331 4709-0 Fax +49 2331 4709-202 Mail rux@rux.de 31

Appendix 5 Appendix 5 8.4 In cases of doubt, the copy of the documents in the possession of the Regierungspräsidium Tübingen shall prevail. 8.5 The structural design examination is only valid up to the date on which the next entry in the make-up sheet is required. In the event that the examination documents are to be used after this date, an application for extension is to be made, in good time, to the Regierungspräsidium in Tübingen. 8.6 In the event that certain regulations change or new technical findings become apparent which indicate that no further use should be made of the documents examined before validity expires, the Regierungspräsidium can declare the examination report null and void. The documents are then to be re-presented, either altered or in supplemented form, for re-examination. 8.7 The examination report has regard to the current state of of technical knowledge. This does not involve any statement in connection with the suitability of the subject of the examination report. Structural design examination of the RUX VS 400 Heavy-load support column. Execution with no Variant flange. Dear Mr. Obersteg, Further to our examination report No. 3/97 dated 17th July 1997, we confirm that the Variant flanges welded to the four tubes of your VS 400 heavy-load support column have no influence on the load capacity of the column. The examination report is also valid for columns which are supplied without these flanges.
