Charged Higgs Beyond the MSSM at the LHC Katri Huitu University of Helsinki

Outline: Mo;va;on Charged Higgs in MSSM Charged Higgs in singlet extensions H ± à aw ± Charged Higgs in triplet extensions H ± à ZW ± light H ±± Summary 5.9.2016 Katri Huitu/Corfu 2

Mo,va,on A Higgs boson, h, was detected in 2012, and is now well established: m h ~ 125.09 ± 0.24 GeV Higgs couplings to fermions s;ll have uncertain;es, but so far compa;ble with the Standard Model Problems of the Standard Model are evident: dark mauer, neutrino masses, hierarchy problem, CP, flavour,. Many of these may be related to the scalar sector! Scalars natural ingredients in the par2cle spectrum in supersymmetric framework 5.9.2016 Katri Huitu/Corfu 3

In susy extensions of the SM, always another doublet (2HDM II) à h, H, A, H ± Note: in supersymmetric extensions of the SM, always H ± To study the charged Higgs, needs to be discovered! Both produc2on and decay depend on the par2cular model Mass and mass rela2ons also depend on the par2cular model Iden2fy the model with model specific signals 5.9.2016 Katri Huitu/Corfu 4

Charged Higgs in MSSM At tree- level: 2 m H,h = 1 " 2 m 2 +m 2 A Z ± m 2 2 $ A +m Z # ( ) 2 4m Z 2 m A 2 cos 2 2β Heavy H, A, H ± nearly degenerate in MSSM % ',((m 2 = m 2 2 H & ± A +m W Carena, Haber, Prog.Part.Nucl.Phys. 50 (2003) 63-152 Charged Higgs main produc;on channels: gg and gb fusions 5.9.2016 Katri Huitu/Corfu 5

Charged Higgs has been searched at the LHC. At Run 1 charged Higgs also lighter than top quark was searched pp tt bw + bh,"br( t bh ± ) Br ( H+ τ + ν ) "" τ At 13 TeV no signal of charged Higgs has been seen so far: H + τ + ν τ!!!!200 < m H < 2000!GeV,!!ATLAS!14.7!fb 1 ± H + tb!!!!!!!!!300 < m H <1000!GeV,!!ATLAS!13.2!fb 1 ± H + W + Z!!!!200 < m H <1000!GeV,!!CMS!15.2!fb 1! ±!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(Georgi;Machachek!model) Note: Large BR to other channels may change the limits 5.9.2016 Katri Huitu/Corfu 6

Other representa, ons in extensions of MSSM For possible representa;ons a constraint from electroweak ρ- parameter. At tree level Experimentally +0.0003 ρ =1.0004 0.0004 For singlets and doublets with Y=±1, ρ=1 at the tree level. Constrains VEVs of Y=0 and Y=2 triplet models unless contribu;ons cancel (e.g. Georgi- Machacek model). 5.9.2016 Katri Huitu/Corfu 7

Charged Higgs in singlet extensions, NMSSM In NMSSM an addi;onal singlet (assume Z 3 ): NMSSM Higgs content: h 1, h 2, h 3, a 1, a 2, h ± Mo;va;ons for NMSSM beyond MSSM: - generate the µ- term through <S>, µ eff =λ S <S> - have new contribu;ons to the lightest Higgs mass à does not necessarily need large radia;ve correc;ons; no Landau poles à λ<0.7 5.9.2016 Katri Huitu/Corfu 8

Charged Higgs is in doublet, and thus couples to fermions like in MSSM Different from the MSSM, the lightest pseudoscalar can be a singlet and light. LHC searches for hà aa has not seen a signal. We assume that m a >125 GeV/2 Top decay to h ± has not been seen heavier than the top quark. we assume that h ± is slightly One may search in h ± à a 1 W ± if kinema;cally possible if h ± a 1 W coupling exists need doublet component in a 1 5.9.2016 Katri Huitu/Corfu 9

Scan over with fixed 5.9.2016 Katri Huitu/Corfu 10

Dominant produc;on mode both at small and large tan β: a 1 decays to bb (~90%) or to ττ (~10%) Studied signals: a 1 à ττ, both W decay leptonically: 1b+2τ+2lepton+E tmiss, 5σ with 122r - 1 a 1 à ττ, one W leptonically, one hadronically: 1b+2τ+2j+1lepton +E tmiss, 5σ with 10r - 1 a 1 à bb, both W decay leptonically, 3b+2lepton+E tmiss 5.9.2016 Katri Huitu/Corfu 11

Model with Y=0 triplet (TESSM) Superpoten;al: µ=µ W TESSM =W D MSSM + λh d TH u +µ T TR( TT) The triplet can be wriuen as " $ $ T = $ $ # 1 2 T 0 T 2 T 1 + 1 2 T 0 The electroweak symmetry breaks and the gauge bosons achieve masses when % ' ' ' ' & Higgs sector: h 1, h 2, h 3, a 1, a 2, h ± 1, h± 2, h± 3 5.9.2016 Katri Huitu/Corfu 12

Constraint from the electroweak ρ parameter (new contribu;on to W mass): ρ =1+ 4v 2 T v 2 2 u +v d Using +0.0003 ρ =1.0004 0.0004 Cannot get rid of µ D parameter we find v T < 5 GeV Tree- level Higgs mass contribu;on: Correc;on important for small tan β, large λ In addi;on: new radia;ve correc;ons from the Higgs sector; also correc;ons from neutralinos and charginos for the lightest Higgs are important Bandyopadhyay,DiChiara, KH, Keceli, JHEP 1411 (2014) 062 5.9.2016 Katri Huitu/Corfu 13

The triplet component in charged Higgs changes constraint from Bà X s γ: More charged Higgses: more top- charged Higgs and stop- chargino loops If the lightest charged Higgs triplet dominated no strong constraint from Bà X s γ 5.9.2016 Katri Huitu/Corfu 14

Different from MSSM and NMSSM: H ± WZ coupling at the tree level. Triplets do not couple directly to the fermions. Decay channel h ± à ZW ± Produc;on through vector boson fusion H ± WZ- coupling in TESSM: h i = R ij H j Note: for H ± Wγ- coupling to vanish, need v T 0 5.9.2016 Katri Huitu/Corfu 15

Important decay modes: h ± i tb!!!! ZW ±!!!! τν!!!! h j W ± ZW tb τν Study the produc;on processes and decay channels with non- negligible H ± WZ vertex 5.9.2016 Katri Huitu/Corfu 16

Consider a rather light charged Higgs (~200 GeV); tan β 10, large λ à need for loop correc;ons in h 1 not sizable h 2 or A 1 not degenerate with charged Higgs h 2 or A 1 à h 1± W kinema;cally possible contrary to MSSM 5.9.2016 Katri Huitu/Corfu 17

Produc;on not dominantly through top decay, gg or gb fusions or qq annihila;on, since triplet does not couple to fermions! Single produc;on: Pair produc;on: 5.9.2016 Katri Huitu/Corfu 18

5σ signal can be achieved in favourable part of parameter space by mul;lepton final states with ~100 r - 1 : h i ± ZW ± (ll)(lν) From the associated h 2 /a 1, W ±, h ± one can get two light jets, leading to 3l( M ll M Z 5#GeV ) + 2j + /p T Similarly >3leptons + (>2 b- jets or > 1 tau- jet) final state can be probed with ~100 r - 1. Final states with four, five or six leptons need more than 1000 r - 1 Bandyopadhyay, KH, Keceli, JHEP 05 (2015) 026 5.9.2016 Katri Huitu/Corfu 19

Model with Y=2 triplet (SUSYLR: SU(2) L xsu(2) R xu(1) B- L ) - Gauge symmetry extended to SU(3) c x SU(2) L x SU(2) R x U(1) B- L; e.g. from SO(10) or E 6 unified model - B- L as gauge symmetry leads to conserved (or spontaneously broken) R- parity à LSP is a dark mauer candidate - neutrino masses can arise via seesaw if triplets included Higgs sector: Higgs sector: h 1 7, a 1 5, h ± 1 4, h±± 1 2 5.9.2016 Katri Huitu/Corfu 21

Radia;ve correc;ons are needed in order to have stable vacuum: radia;ve correc;ons take care of charge conserva;on One doubly charged Higgs always light (a few 100 GeV) - tau- stau loop raises doubly charged Higgs mass posi;ve à the Yukawa coupling to triplets > 0.6 favored Assume H - - à ττ Different from MSSM, NMSSM, TESSM: triplet has doubly charged Higgs bosons. Singly charged and light doubly charged Higgs bosons Poten;ally large contribu;on to hà γγ 5.9.2016 Katri Huitu/Corfu 23

Doubly charged par;cles couple with double strength to photons, BUT H 1 ++ aδ c++ +bδ c++,####a ~ b g hh O( a 2 b 2 ) ++ H coupling to the lightest neutral Higgs for consistent models always suppressed, g hh ±± H / g hh ± H 1 / 20 and the singly charged Higgs contribu;on to γγ decay is larger. Frank, Ghosh, KH, Rai, Saha, Waltari, PRD 90 (2014) 115021 The lightest charged Higgs mostly doublet, similar to MSSM charged Higgs. 26.2.2015 Uppsala/Katri Huitu 24

Summary Extended models are less fine- tuned than MSSM Proper;es of the charged Higgs may tell about the structure and symmetries of the Higgs sector. It is important to cover all possibili;es for final states even a light charged Higgs can escape detec;on Exo;c channels, like h ± a 1 W ±,###h ± ZW ±, are probing the Higgs representa;ons. Doubly charged Higgs may decay to same sign taus à possible to find if kinema;cally accessible. 5.9.2016 Katri Huitu/Corfu 25
