Uniform Circular Motion Objects moving in curved(arc, semi circular, circular) path at constant speeds. Think of a car turning a corner, or the fun carnival ride, or a satellite orbiting the earth. When an object is moving in a circular path it experiences a net force directed towards center of that circular path. This force is called the CENTRIPETAL FORCE and it is always pointing to the center of the circular path. (think of centripetal force as a fancy way of saying net force when an object is moving in a circular path). Centripetal means "center seeking" This seems counter intuitive, though our objects are moving at constant speeds, our net force in these types of problems will not be 0N, because we are moving in a curved path and therefore we have a Net Force directed towards the center of the path. And when we have net force we have...acceleration! The acceleration caused by a centripetal force is called, centripetal acceleration. Think: What would happen if an object were attached to a string and moving in a circular path were suddenly released, how would the object fly? Velocity is tangent to the circular path!!!!!!! Formulas: 1

A 3kg mass is attached to a string that has a length of 0.5m. The object is spun around counter clockwise with a constant speed of 3 m/s. What is the magnitude of the centripetal acceleration, what is the force experienced by the object? 3

A 1200kg car is traveling around a circular track with a constant speed of 20m/s. The car completes one full lap in 20seconds. Determine the force experienced by the car. 4
