Thesis title: Thermal investigations on AgI and CuI based superionic glasses and glass ceramic composites Superionic glasses are one of the promising candidates for all-solid-state battery applications. Since glasses are thermally unstable due to crystallization, a systematic understanding of thermal properties is inevitable prior to any application. Thus thermal stability investigations on various systems have got considerable attention in last few years. Recently, we have thoroughly examined the applicability of the different thermal stability parameters e.g. Hruby coefficient, activation energies associated with structural relaxation (E s ) and crystallization (E c ), enthalpy content ( H) etc for the better understanding of ionic glasses. These parameters were obtained by non-isothermal crystallization kinetics using differential scanning calorimetry, using

Kissinger, Moynihan and Matusita-sakka formulations. Alternatively, some of these parameters could also be obtained by analyzing the carefully measured electrical conductivity-temperature cycles above the T g and T c at various (30-300K/h) heating rates. The parameters have been systematically calculated for fundamental AgI and CuI oxy-salt glasses and found to exhibit very interesting trends with the composition. A well-known glassy system AgI-Ag 2 O-V 2 O 5 has been chosen to demonstrate the applicability of the parameters. Effect of (i) mixed cation i.e. CuI substitution in place of AgI (ii) mixed glass modifier Cu 2 O in place of Ag 2 O and (iii) mixed glass formers (MoO 3 in place of V 2 O 5 ), on the thermal properties is thoroughly investigated. The electrical conductivity-temperature cycles at various rates were also obtained for two of the systems, viz. AgI-Ag 2 O-V 2 O 5 -MoO 3 and CuI-AgI-Ag 2 O-V 2 O 5. Interestingly, the E c and E s values obtained by DSC and -T cycles are found to be comparable. List of publications: 1. N. Gupta, A.
