Major in Chemistry, ACS Certified Concentration 1 MAJOR IN CHEMISTRY, ACS CERTIFIED CONCENTRATION Students who wish to work as professional chemists should select the ACS Certified Concentration to obtain professional certification by the American Chemical Society. The ACS-approved curriculum of this concentration offers an extensive and rigorous chemistry education that gives students intellectual, experimental, and communication skills to become effective chemistry professionals. Major Completion Map Distinctive Requirements for Degree Program: TO PREPARE FOR FIRST SEMESTER: The curriculum for the Chemistry major - ACS Certified concentration assumes students enter college prepared to take calculus. Entering students who are not prepared to take calculus will need to fulfill pre-calculus requirements in the first semester. CHEM 111 requires Algebra II as a prerequisite (this prerequisite is met by having Algebra II by test credit, transfer credit, or placement out of MATH 117 and MATH 118 on Math Placement Exam). 4 4
