There is no ambiguity involved in evaluating the above formula in the path integral for a particle moving in a uniform magnetic field on the plane of size L L. However, if we take L, then the plane plus the point at infinity is topologically equivalent to the two-sphere. Now consider a closed trajectory on the sphere. Using the result of the previous part, the amplitude of this trajectory is given by the Aharanov-Bohm flux it encloses. However, on the sphere, a closed trajectory bounds two regions and so there is an ambiguity as to what is considered to be inside.
