4 MOC2 Objectives Use observations and models to develop and test GCM/NWP cloud parameterizations with particular emphasis on: 1) radiation: Treat sub-grid scale variability (horizontal and vertical) in the long and short wave 2) variability: Prognose vertical and horizontal variability characterized by cloud resolving models and aircraft and satellite observations 3) boundary layer: Develop a new parameterization for turbulent transport within the lowest part of the atmosphere. Couple to a new cumulus convection parameterization. MOC2: Modelling clouds and climate p.4/10

5 Objectives... 4) microphysics: Develop new datasets for cold-cloud microphysics and parameterizations which predict the number and mass concentrations of cloud ice and liquid water. 5) dynamics: Develop a new parameterization to represent the sub-grid scale transport of momentum, energy and moisture due to dynamical processes active in extra-tropical cyclones and Arctic weather systems.
