2 Zane Brown I have 2 pictures to choose from. These pictures were taken the first weekend in October after Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast region Aug These pictures were taken in the Pass Christian, Mississippi Gulf community. I was down there the first weekend in October gutting houses so that people could start rebuilding. I would say that 85% of the homes in that community were destroyed and most of the homes that remained standing had significant damage and needed to be rebuilt. None of the homes in the community had basements so it was easy for them to be lifted off of their foundations. One home was actually about 100yds from its original foundation. For many people, when they moved back it was like moving into a new home. Many people lost most of their belongings during the hurricane and had to start over again. The devastation from Hurricane Katrina was unimaginable and proves jut how powerful nature can really be. I also went down to New Orleans as well and that community was in just as bad of shape as this one, if not worse. I have more pictures but thought these were the best. 4 Ryan Wichman 3 I took this picture in 2005 while sitting in the country during a lightning storm. I was taking random pictures hoping to time a photo with a lightning strike, I was a little bit off...but close enough for me.

5 Ryan Wichman this picture I took the morning after a straight line wind gust measured at 101mph hit the airport about a mile from my house. As you can see the building and everything in it was pretty much destroyed. The previous year the airport measured a wind gust at 100mph in an eerily similar storm. 4

6 Robert Garst Hello and welcome. I hath taketh thine picture with my only Nikon D80 SLR. Vanessa and I went storm viewing on the outskirts of Macomb. There was much lightning, and it was good, so I took it upon myself to taketh thine photo. Ye shall enjoy this photo, for I have. Due to rain however, my lens was dirty, so I used the magical program called paint to fix that...now it is mostly fixed, with minimal spots...how excellent. yes. also...it was a time lapse of 15 seconds. sincerely, Thine only, Robert K Garst 5

8 Steven Stevenson (AKA Robert Garst) Hello, my name is Steven Stevenson, I like lightning, here is some lightning. I took this photo, with a sweet camera. Yes, yes indeed, lightning is fun, did I say that I like lightning?!? cuz I do. \\it is Easter time\\ HE IS RISEN!!! now you say... did you say it? you better have, or I will sick the lightning on you...it will hurt...a lot. I also like turtles, they are green, and can fly, no, swim. Well, it's been fun, have fun with your club and all, it sounds like a blast. I would go, but I am too busy checking my . I also like , it's all like I am mail, but with an E. Yes. So I will not be attending your meeting, I get lots of , so I am a busy guy. With lots of lightning, Steve 7

9 Jamie Hammack I took this photo with an Olympus film camera around Summer 2003 in Fairfield, IL. What is seen in the picture is the tail end of a strong summer storm that was moving out of the area. My father walked outside, and urged me to come outside to see the clouds. I was still a little nervous about going with the storm still so close, but I was greatly rewarded with the images that I captured. I thought it was beautiful how the brown/black clouds contrasted with the blue sky and sunset. The sky was still quite dark towards the left of the picture, andi am guessing that the lightning was striking about 3 to 5 miles away from my position. I quickly snapped two pictures of the beautiful clouds before going back into the house. 8

10 William Tucker (Mike s Brother) Gurnee, IL (North of Chicago) On the first day of spring, the snow had all melted away and we were enjoying comfortable temperatures around 50 degrees. The next day, we just happened to have a foot of snow dumped on us. This picture was taken about two thirds through the storm, Friday night, March 21. 9

11 D.J. Anderson I took this picture on May 4th, I had to run to Alton, Illinois (about minute drive) to pick up my tuxedo for prom. While driving I spotted a funnel cloud to my right (which was to the east) and I thought it had past me already. I really was not worried about it at all and kept driving, keeping a very close eye on the funnel. After turning on a road that lead to my town there was a clearing and I noticed that an actual tornado was off to my left, but it was a fair distance away, but it still freaked me out. The funnel to my right never did touch the ground. These were just cold air funnels (except for the actual tornado i guess), and really were not a threat because even if they wanted to touch down they couldn't, and they are not very strong either. These funnels were not even associated with any big thunderstorms either, and whatever clouds they came from did not move in a usual west to east fashion, but more south to north. Anyway, i took this picture on the north edge of Bunker Hill, Illinois (my hometown) at a local gas station parking lot. As you can see there looks to be some sort of storm trying to form, but underneath there was very little precipitation. D. J. Anderson SWC Co-Vice President 10
