2 SEARCH AND RESCUE INFORMATION - WEEKLY PERIOD: 17 DEC 18 TO 23 DEC 18 DATE/TIME INCIDENT # 17 14: : : : : : : : : : : EMBC REGION INCIDENT ELT/ #VICTIMS # EMBC VOL LOCATED ALIVE DEAD NO COMMENTS VIR LAND Westcoast Inland SAR members responded to assist with two lost hikers on the Bomber Trail, near Tofino. SAR was stood down when Parks Canada made contact with the subjects and assisted them out. CTL LAND COSAR members responded to locate a missing female with dementia in the Kelowna area. SAR was stood down when the subject was located by RCMP in good condition. SWE LAND Squamish SAR members responded to assist with 5 missing children in Squamish. The children were safely located at a grocery store. VIR INLAND WATER Cowichan Valley and 2 Ladysmith SAR members responded to the Silver Bridge in Duncan for a report of a male possibly attempting to jump. SAR was stood down once the subject was safely in police custody. NWE LAND Terrace SAR members responding to RCMP request for assistance locating a lost skier stuck in a tree well, possibly hypothermic, on Shames Mountain in Terrace. Friends with the skier managed to begin bringing him out and meet with SAR partway, subject was taken to the sky lodge where he was passed to ambulance for assessment and transport to hospital. VIR LAND Westcoast Inland SAR members responded to an injured subject on the beach that is pinned down by a log. Subject turned over to BCAS. SWE INLAND WATER Kent Harrison SAR members responded to RCMP request for a stranded boater that fell out of his boat and into Thelais River but was able to get to shore. SAR was stood down after RCMP confirmed the subject was safe and SAR assistance was not needed. VIR LAND Arrowsmith SAR members responded to request for assistance with medical evacuations resulting from fallen trees in Parksville. SAR was unable to fly in so members hiked to the subject, performed First Aid and awaited for the Fire Department to extract the subject. VIR LAND Cowichan Valley SAR members responded to 3 overdue travellers near the Diditat Reserve. RCMP located subjects, and closed Cowichan Valley SAR down. VIR LAND Saltspring SAR members responded for a missing female on Saltspring Island. RCMP located the subject so SAR was stood down. SWE LAND Squamish SAR members responded to assist with a 30 Y/O male skier that has sustained a broken leg, on the Elfin Lake Trail, near Squamish.
3 21 14: : : : WEEK TOTAL YEAR TO DATE The subject was transported via heli and handed off to BCAS with a fractured ankle. SWE LAND Squamish SAR members responded to assist with an injured 51 Y/O male mountain biker that has sustained an arm injury on the meadow of the Grizzly Mountain Bike Trail, at the Water Fall Section near Squamish. SAR located the subject with a dislocated shoulder, and managed to hike him back down the trail. The subject was handed over to BCAS. SWE INLAND Hope and 12 Kent Harrison SAR members WATER responded for a vehicle that went into Ruby Creek. 1 Subject is trapped inside the vehicle. SAR located the vehicle but could not find the subject. SAR was stood down. SWE LAND Surrey SAR and 16 Central Fraser Valley SAR members responded to a request for assistance with a missing despondent subject that has been missing since yesterday morning in Delta. The search was stood down by the RCMP without the subject being located. SWE AIR 1ELT PEP Air members responded to an ELT at the Vancouver Airport. PEP Air located ELT and it turned out to be helijet, no emergencies or injuries ELT ELT - 25
4 WEEKLY INCIDENT REPORT Dec 17 23, 2018 DANGEROUS GOODS On 20 Dec 2018, Canada Natural Resources had a suspected leak of H2S on a lease near Fort St. John. There were no households/communities nearby and no threat to the public. MISCELLANEOUS On 18 Dec 2018, a task was issued for a tenant displaced when their apartment flooded as a result of a blown valve on a boiler. The suite was entirely uninhabitable. TASK On 20 Dec 2018, a task was issued to the Alberni/Clayoquot Regional District in response to a tactical evacuation of 40 people due to a bomb threat in Port Alberni. TASK On 20 Dec 2018, a task was issued for potential group lodging for an unknown number of residents from Thetis Island & Penelakut Island that are daily commuters and were stranded as the ferry has stopped running due to severe weather conditions. TASK On 21 Dec 2018, a task was issued in response to a tree falling on a residence in Sooke causing the residence to be uninhabitable. TASK SEVERE STORM On Dec , a task number was issued to the City of Abbotsford in response to bring heavy rains to the region. TASK On Dec , a task number was issued to the Tseshaht First Nation in response to activate their EOC to a level 3 in response to the potential flood risk posed by a severe storm forecast to bring heavy rains to the region. TASK On Dec , a task number was issued to the City of Maple in response to activate rains to the region.
