1 CHATTER October Village on the Greens th Avenue East Bradenton, Florida Editor: Nancy Sickles address: Published monthly by On Trac Publishing, P.O. Manager s Report Before Hurricane Irma By Carl Romano on 9:44 a.m. I have always been a morning person and early this morning while I was walking my dog, Teddy, before coming to work I couldn t help but marvel at how still the world seemed. There was a full moon, the stars were still out and the air was eerily still. It is the calm before the storm. It s Friday, September 8th and we are looking at Hurricane Irma making landfall in South Florida sometime Saturday. VOTG is in the cone of uncertainty and we are preparing for the storm. I think we will be experiencing either very strong tropical winds (70 mph) or even hurricane force winds. During the past couple of days, we have received numerous phone calls from out of town residents asking us to put down their shutters and other storm related requests. We tried to help everyone we could. However, I must say that the shutters are really the responsibility of the unit owners. When you leave for the season residents must prepare for any summer storms. Many people have decided to leave Florida before the storm. Manatee County is starting to open emergency shelters. As I write this, we are under Voluntary Evacuation order by the Manatee County Sheriff s department. We are about as ready as we can get. Manager s Report - After Hurricane Irma By Carl Romano on 10:30 a.m. The Village on the Greens got a little bit lucky because Hurricane Irma did not make a direct hit on central Bradenton. The eye of the storm passed to the north east of Manatee County. We did suffer some common area damage. The carport to the media center was damaged. The biggest problem we face is a large tree near the management office which was blown over and landed in the maintenance yard. It knocked down the electrical power line to the office and even though we still have power, I don t think we are getting full voltage. Another problem since the storm is we do not have working phone lines or Internet service. The fallen tree has also affected our trash and recycling operating. Many of the units in the Village have minor damaged, a downspout blown off or a small tree blown over. However, we have about 26 units that did suffer some significate damage, the damage is mostly to the carports, but there are some roofing problems with some of the units. Management has contacted all the residents with major damage and many of the residing residents are already taking action to fix their units. As far as I can tell the electricity stayed on to most of the units. Our clean-up has started but it will be a few weeks before we get everything back to normal. Happy Halloween!
2 Manatee County Sheriff s Office Call this number for all non-emergency problems: Call 911 for any emergency. If you see something that doesn t look like it should, do not hesitate to call the Manatee County Sheriff s Office. They can t help us unless we try to help ourselves. Bulletin Board Please put your sale items on a 3 x 5 inch card with the date on the bottom. Unless you change the date when the month is over, your card will be removed. Also, photos of items should be small enough to fit on the same 3 x 5 inch card. Notice All maintenance requests MUST be made through the front office or park manager. All other employees are NOT authorized to take individual requests. For those that are with the love of your life for one more year, have a very Happy Anniversary. For those of you that were lucky enough to be born during the month of October, have a very Happy Birthday. Important Information by Kim English The office requires that all residents submit emergency contact information. Several residents are not up-to-date. This information is vital should you be gone and the office needed to reach you. If you are unsure if you are updated, please call the office and give them your current contact information. And, if you have not updated your emergency contact information within the last two years, it is important to call or stop into the office to check to make sure it is correct. 5 Hurricane Irma (Author unknown) Twas the night before Irma And all through the house, Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. The shutters were hung over windows with care, In the hopes she d shift East; our shorelines she d spare. The children were nestled all snug in their beds, Their life jackets beside them, our zone is in red. Adults are full-clothed, we have spare water and boots, In case MPH winds gets real and our roof becomes loose. When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, I sprang from the couch to see the rain splatter. Away to the window I flew like a flash. Then I realized that s stupid, and went back to my snacks. Bay News 9 is my go to for entertainment tonight. Irma s a big whirlwind, but Florida will fight. When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, I found Little Debbies! Now, how d they get here? Facebook is flooded with the tall tales Trifecta: False reports, know it alls, who the heck is Rebecca? Now some chose to leave, and some chose to stay. Our stomachs are up in our throats either way. The rain has picked up and I know she is close. I listen for train whistles, I hate those the most. Although this is scary, we have been here before. Destruction was bad, I m not ready for more. But, looters get shot and mosquitos will bite, When this is all over, Floridians unite... October Village on the Greens Chatter - Page 5
