GES line-list team h"p://great.ast.cam.ac.uk/geswiki/geswg/geswg11/linelists/ Contact: Karin & Maria concerning atoms Thomas concerning molecules Patrick concerning grid

Line-list v4 Line-list v4 released idr2 launched Synthetic grid released 9 Aug. 13 Aug. 19 Sep. à Clear deadlines needed for these key parts of the production change

What s new Standardized fits-format Complete revision of atomic lines in HR21, now homogeneous with RED580 HFS / isotopic shifts included for 11 species References complete EW-flag introduced Depth-parameter introduced log(gf) s updated for MgI, SiI, TiI, TiII, FeI and some neutron-capture species Some spurious lines removed

Access "p.ast.cam.ac.uk/pub/klind/linelist 26 fits- files, two atomic (with and without HFS/ISO) and 24 molecular. Please do not get the data from elsewhere. The fits-format is here to stay. Fits to ascii conversion rougnes? Any requests? hlp://ges.roe.ac.uk/ (ingesgon in tesgng phase)

Example line-selection Read atomic line-list: IDL> line = mrdfits( ges_atom_hfs-iso_v4.fits,1) Select good CaI lines in HR10: IDL> ca = where(line.lambda gt 5350 and line.lambda lt 5650 and line.syn_flag eq Y and line.log_gf_flag eq Y and strtrim(line.name[0] + line.name[1],2) eq Ca and line.ion eq 1) IDL> print,line[ca].lambda Check important blends for CaI 5588Å in Arcturus: IDL> blends = where(line.lambda gt and line.lambda lt 5590 and line.depth gt 0.1) IDL> print,line[blends].lambda

Atomic transition probabilities Species # ok lines Y log(gf) Other source Species # ok lines Y log(gf) Other source HI LiI CI OI AlI SI VI MnI CuI BaII EuII NaI MgI SiI CaI TiI FeI FeII CoI NiI YII ZrI

New accurate laboratory measurements for 180 FeI, incl. 45 in GES wavelength regions For version 5

Atomic line broadening Your code must read the alpha and sigma values (ABO theory) we provide.

Atomic line broadening Species # ok lines ABO HI LiI CI OI AlI SI VI MnI CuI BaII EuII Other source Species # ok ABO Anstee & O Mara Other lines (1991) source NaI 6 3 ABO theory 3 MgI 12 5 Two parameters: 7 SiI 35 3 Int(sigma).alpha 32 CaI lines in VALD TiI FeI FeII CoI NiI YII ZrI

Important Before launching calculations of individual abundance ratios, note that isotopic information in v4 is missing for : LiI : There are 4 components of Li I 6707Å. These are the 6 Li and 7 Li doublets, they are NOT hyperfine components of 7 Li. EuII : five lines.

Publication policy How do I cite the GES linelist? Heiter et al. (in prep). In which form may I present atomic data from the GES line- list? The members of the GES may publish their own selec3on of lines, which is suitable for their technique. You may include a) wavelengths, b) excitagon energies of the lower and upper levels, c) transigon probabiliges, and d) broadening constants. The original references to c) and d) shall be provided as well if feasible. They can be extracted from the fields LOG_GF_REF and *_DAMP_REF in the line- list FITS files. It should be made clear in the argcle that the authors have not themselves compiled the atomic data. The flags (LOG_GF_FLAG, SYN_FLAG, EW_FLAG) shall not be listed. We encourage comparison of our atomic data compilagon with other data sources.

Publication policy Can I use the GESv4 linelist for other projects outside Gaia- ESO? The members of the Gaia- ESO Survey shall not yet employ the molecular line list data (C2, CH, CN, and MgH) and the new ICL- generated experimental iron oscillator strength (with the reference label GESRP12) in the projects outside Gaia- ESO. These data will be a part of dedicated publicagons from Masseron et al., Pickering et al., and Ruffoni et al. The TiO line list may be uglised and can be referenced as follows: Plez, 1998A&A, 337, 495P. The data for other atomic transigons are publicly available and accordingly, may be used inside and outside the Gaia- ESO collaboragon. The references and the detailed descripgon are available on the GES wiki: GES_linelist_v4_report.pdf hlp://great.ast.cam.ac.uk/geswiki/geswg/geswg11/linelists
