5 Rationale: Effective Fall 2010, the BOR changed its calendar rules. Major changes are: a. They no longer require that all system institutions have the same start and end dates. Institutions have a great deal of flexibility. b. Final exam minutes now count as minutes of instruction. Since the total number of minutes of instruction is unchanged, this reduces the minutes of classroom time required. These changes give Georgia State many more options. Discussions with many groups indicated general satisfaction with the current calendar. Therefore, the proposed calendar is not a radical change. See the Significant changes above for the changes that were made. The addition of a fall break was requested by students. They argued that a break in the middle of the term would increase student learning. It also allows for easier implementation of Minimester I finals.
