2 TEAM NOTES 3RD 4-0 START UNDER CUTCLIFFE With last Saturday s victory against N.C. Central, Duke improved to 4-0 for the second consecutive season. It is the first time since and only the fifth time in program history Duke has been 4-0 in consecutive seasons. Since 1960, the Blue Devils have started 4-0 or better only seven times, three of which have been under the direction of head coach David Cutcliffe. Year Undefeated Start Final Record TBD Cutcliffe (3) joins Wallace Wade (6) and Bill Murray (5) as the only Duke coaches with three or more 4-0 starts to a season. LOOKING TO GO 5-0 Duke heads into Saturday s game looking to improve to 5-0 for the first time since 1994, when the club started 7-0. Since 1940, Duke has started 5-0 or better only five times: 1994 (7-0), 1988 (5-0), 1957 (5-0), 1952 (6-0) and 1941 (9-0). A FIVE-WIN SEASON Duke is looking for its fifth win of the year. It would be the sixth time in 11 campaigns under Cutcliffe the Blue Devils reached five wins. In the 13 seasons prior to Cutcliffe taking over the program, the Blue Devils never won five or more games in a year. The program already has its longest streak of consecutive four or more win campaigns (seven) since a seven year stretch from 1985 to SEVEN CONSECUTIVE WINS Duke defeated N.C. Central last Saturday to capture its seventh consecutive victory dating back to the season. In program history, the Blue Devils have won seven or more straight games just 14 times and had sevengame winning streaks only four times since Cutcliffe (2) joins Wade (5) and Murray (3) as the only Duke head coaches to have multiple winning streaks of seven or more games in their careers. DUKE vs. VIRGINIA TECH The Hokies own a 16-9 lead in the all-time series, which began in 1937 with six straight Duke victories. The two have met yearly since 2004, when Tech joined the ACC. 3 OFFENSIVE NOTES OFFENSE FINDING EXPLOSIVE PLAYS Redshirt junior quarterback Quentin Harris connected on a 44-yard pass against N.C. Central, giving Duke a pass of 40+ yards in all four contests, and a 50+ yard strike in three of four games. Duke has five pass plays of 35+ yards this year after totaling just 11 in. Within the ACC, Duke is tied for seventh in 30+ yard passes (five), tied for second in 40+ yard passes (four) and second in 50+ yard passes (three). The Blue Devils have three touchdown passes of 50+ yards in after finishing with four. POINTS IN 13 QUARTERS Duke has scored in 13 of 16 quarters this season, only not scoring in the first, third and fourth frames at Northwestern on September 8. BACK TO BACK 40+ POINTS Duke scored 55 points versus N.C. Central a week after totaling 40 at Baylor. The Blue Devils had not had consecutive 40-point games since the opening two weeks of the season. Saturday, the Blue Devils go for three straight 40+ point games for the first time since GROUND SUCCESS IN DURHAM Duke rushed for 372 yards against N.C. Central. Jackson finished the Baylor tilt with 63 rushing yards and owns three straight games with 50+ rushing yards for the first time in his career. Jackson enters Saturday s game leading the Blue Devils with three rushing scores. Lloyd is also averaging yards per reception, the 10th best for any ACC pass catcher. With last week s 16-yard touchdown catch, Lloyd became the first Blue Devil to have a receiving score in three consecutive games since Jamison Crowder October 6, 13 and 20, KOPPENHAVER WITH 2 TD GRABS Redshirt senior tight end Davis Koppenhaver caught a 17-yard TD pass from Harris in the first quarter versus N.C. Central and added a three-yard score from Katrenick in the third quarter. Koppenhaver is now third in program history in career TD receptions by a tight end with eight.

4 DEFENSIVE NOTES GILBERT SHELVED FOR BY INJURY In week two at Northwestern, Duke junior cornerback Mark Gilbert suffered a season-ending hip injury. Gilbert was named to six preseason All- America squads and was a unanimous first team All-ACC selection. ONE HALF OR THE OTHER Through four games this season, no opponent has scored in both halves against the Blue Devils. Duke has pitched first half shutouts against Army West Point and Baylor and second half blankings versus Northwestern and N.C. Central. DOMINANT IN THE SECOND QUARTER Duke s defense has yet to allow a point in the second quarter and yielded just 279 total offensive yards. In the ACC, Duke is ranked third: School Opponent KOR Avg Syracuse Duke WAREHAM DRILLS ALL FOUR FGS Fifth-year senior Collin Wareham made his Duke debut against Army West Point in the season opener and has converted all four field goals this year and is 18-of-20 on PAT tries. Wareham, a three-year letterman at St. Albans School in Washington, D.C., graduated from Duke in May,, with a degree in economics and is pursuing a master s degree in management studies. FOURTH IN THE ACC Wareham enters Saturday s game ranked fourth in the ACC with his 18 made PATs. TWO FIELD GOAL BLOCKS Baylor s second quarter field goal attempt was blocked by Marquis Waters, the first block of the sophomore safety s career. In the season opener, senior linebacker Ben Humphreys knocked aside a 45-yard Army West Point try. It was the second consecutive year Duke blocked a field goal in the fourth quarter against the Black Knights. Duke is one of 24 FBS programs with at least two blocked kicks this season.
