Abstract This paper presents the design and development of blood oxygen saturation and heart rate monitoring using dual-wavelength optoelectronic technique and transcutaneous method. The light sources were implemented by red and infrared LEDs whereas a single photodiode was employed for light detection. The captured signal was processed by PC16F876 microcontroller to display oxygen saturation and heart rate on LCD. The prototype achieved ± 5 beats/minute accuracy for heart rate and ± 1 SpO 2 accuracy for oxygen saturation.
