4 1 The mission of Baker College is to provide quality higher education and training which enable graduates to be successful throughout challenging and rewarding careers. To this end, the following purposes have been established: Prepare students for competency in business, computers, education, engineering/technology, health, and human services careers in today s global economy. Provide general education which expands students horizons, develops strong communication skills, and encourages critical thinking. Provide students with practical experience and training in a chosen field of study. Encourage social and classroom-related activities which promote both personal and professional growth. Enhance students success through continuous assessment and improvement of teaching, learning, and institutional effectiveness. Assist graduates throughout their careers in securing employment and improving career opportunities. Encourage graduates to continue their education and to lead effectively through service in a world without boundaries. Offer graduate programs which provide students with advanced study, research, scholarly activity, and opportunities for professional development.
5 2 The First Destination Survey was administered by Baker College Career Services to document the post-graduate outcomes of graduates receiving a degree or certificate during the Fall 2015, Winter 2016, and Spring 2016 quarters. Baker College Career Services coordinated data collection efforts by utilizing the First Destination Survey and a common set of questions. In addition to the online survey, data was collected through other sources, including: s from individual graduates reporting their outcomes Information from academic personnel that were aware of specific graduate outcomes Direct calls to graduates Information mined from LinkedIn and other social networking resources Additional data gathering methods are consistent with NACE standards and protocols. The goal is to gather information on as many graduates as possible and only include information that is deemed legitimate and verifiable. This report will use the term knowledge rate or the percent of graduates for which the institution has reasonable and verifiable information concerning the graduates post-graduation career activities. 6 3 : Graduates who are currently enrolled at an educational institution or training program. : Graduate who is earning income, a specified compensation or wage from an employer, or earning income directly from one s own business. Knowledge Rate: The percentage of graduates for which Career Services has reasonable and verifiable information concerning the graduate s post-graduation career plans. This information may come directly from the graduate via survey method or via other direct information sources. : Graduates currently serving or entering active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces. : Graduates who have indicated that they choose not to pursue either employment or continuing education at this time. : Employment in a job function where the graduate utilizes skills acquired through their program major core classes. Seeking Employment: Graduates who have indicated that they are seeking and have not yet enrolled in a program of continuing education. : Graduates who fail to complete a First Destination Survey response and/or refusal to return contact attempts to obtain information about their post-graduation career plans. Unrelated: Employment in a job function where the graduate does not utilize skills acquired through their program major core classes. : Graduates contributing time and talent in a volunteer or service program for personal and/or professional growth without receiving monetary compensation (e.g., Peace Corps, mission work).
