Then we present several examples to illustrate the main theorems. 1 Introduction A mapping T on a metric space (X, d) is called Kannan if there exists α [0, 1 2 )suchthat d(tx, Ty) αd(x, Tx)+αd(y, Ty) (1.1) for all x, y X. Kannan [1] provedthatifx is complete, then a Kannan mapping has a fixed point. It is interesting that Kannan s theorem is independent of the Banach contraction principle [2]. Also, Kannan s fixed point theorem is very important because Subrahmanyam [3] proved that Kannan s theorem characterizes the metric completeness. That is, a metric space X is complete if and only if every Kannan mapping on X has a fixed point. Using the concept of Hausdorff metric, Nadler [] proved the fixed point theorem for multi-valued contraction maps, which is a generalization of the Banach contraction principle [2]. Since then various fixed point results concerning multi-valued contractions have appeared;for example,see [5 7] and the references cited there. Without using the concept of Hausdorff metric, most recently Dehaish and Latif [8] generalized fixed point theorems of Latif and Abdou [9], Suzuki [10], Suzuki and Takahashi [11]. In 1996, Kada et al. [12] introduced the notion of w-distance and improved several classical results including Caristi s fixed point theorem. Suzuki and Takahashi [11] introduced single-valued and multi-valued weakly contractive maps with respect to w-distance and provedfixedpoint resultsforsuch maps.generalizing theconceptof w-distance, in 2001, Suzuki [10] introduced the notion of τ -distance on a metric space and improved several classical results including the corresponding results of Suzuki and Takahashi [11]. In 2010, Ume [13] introduced the new concept of a distance called u-distance, which generalizes w-distance, Tataru s distance and τ -distance. Then he proved a new minimization theorem and a new fixed point theorem by using u-distance on a complete metric space. Distances in uniform spaces were given by Vályi [1]. More general concepts of distances were given by Wlodarczyk and Plebaniak [15 18]and Wlodarczyk[19]. In this paper, we introduce the new classes of Kannan-type multi-valued maps without using the concept of Hausdorff metric and Kannan-type single-valued maps with respect 2015 Ume; licensee Springer. Then we present several examples to illustrate the main theorems. 2 Preinaries Throughout this paper we denote by N the set of all positive integers, by R the set of all real numbers and by R + the set of all nonnegative real numbers. Ume [13] introducedu-distance as follows: Let X be metric space with metric d. Then afunctionp : X X R + is called u-distance on X if there exists a function θ : X X R + R + R + such that the following hold for x, y, z X: (u 1 ) p(x, z) p(x, y)+p(y, z). (u 2 ) θ(x, y,0,0)=0and θ(x, y, s, t) min{s, t} for all x, y X and s, t R +, for any x X and for every ε >0,thereexistsδ >0such that s s 0 < δ, t t 0 < δ, s, s 0, t, t 0 R + and y X imply θ(x, y, s, t) θ(x, y, s 0, t 0 ) < ε. (u 3 ) x n = x and sup{θ(w n, z n, p(w n, x m ), p(z n, x m )) : m n} =0 imply p(y, x) inf p(y, x n ) for all y X. (u ) sup{p(x n, w m ):m n} =0, sup{p(y n, z m ):m n} =0, θ(x n, w n, s n, t n )=0and θ(y n, z n, s n, t n )=0imply θ(w n, z n, s n, t n )=0or sup{p(w m, x n ):m n} =0, sup{p(z m, y n ):m n} =0, θ(x n, w n, s n, t n )=0and θ(y n, z n, s n, t n )=0imply θ(w n, z n, s n, t n )=0. (u 5 ) θ(w n, z n, p(w n, x n ), p(z n, x n )) = 0 and θ(w n, z n, p(w n, y n ), p(z n, y n )) = 0 imply d(x n, y n ) = 0 or θ(a n, b n, p(x n, a n ), p(x n, b n )) = 0 and θ(a n, b n, p(y n, a n ), p(y n, b n )) = 0 imply d(x n, y n )=0. We recall remark, examples, definition and lemmas which will be useful in what follows. Remark 2.1 ([13]) (a) Suppose that θ from X X R + R + into R + is a mapping satisfying (u 2 ) (u 5 ). Then there exists a mapping η from X X R + R + into R + such that η is nondecreasing in its third and fourth variable, satisfying (u 2 ) η (u 5 ) η,where(u 2 ) η (u 5 ) η stand for substituting η for θ in (u 2 ) (u 5 ), respectively. (b) On account of (a), we may assume that θ is nondecreasing in its third and fourth variables, respectively, for a function θ from X X R + R + into R + satisfying (u 2 ) (u 5 ). (c) Each τ -distance p on a metric space (X, d)isalsoau-distance on X. We present some examplesof u-distance which are not τ -distance (for details, see [13]). Example 2.2 Let X = R + with the usual metric. Define p : X X R + by p(x, y)=( 1 )x2. Then p is a u-distance on X but not a τ -distance on X. Example 2.3 Let X be a normed space with, then a function p : X X R + defined by p(x, y)= x for every x, y X is a u-distance on X but not a τ -distance. It follows from the above examples and (c) of Remark 2.1 that u-distance is a proper extension of τ -distance. Definition 2. ([13]) Let X be a metric space with a metric d and let p be a u-distance on X. Thenasequence{x n } in X is called p-cauchy if there exists a function θ from X
Ume Fixed Point Theory and Applications (2015) 2015:38 Page 3 of 13 X R + R + into R + satisfying (u 2 ) (u 5 ) and a sequence {z n } of X such that sup{ θ ( z n, z n, p(z n, x m ), p(z n, x m ) ) : m n } =0 or sup{ θ ( z n, z n, p(x m, z n ), p(x m, z n ) ) : m n } =0. Lemma 2.5 ([13]) Let X be a metric space with a metric d and let p be a u-distance on X. If {x n } is a p-cauchy sequence, then {x n } is a Cauchy sequence. Lemma 2.6 ([13]) Let X be a metric space with a metric d and let p be a u-distance on X. (1) If sequences {x n } and {y n } of X satisfy p(z, x n )=0and p(z, y n )=0for some z X, then d(x n, y n )=0. (2) If p(z, x) = 0 and p(z, y) = 0, then x = y. (3) Suppose that sequences {x n } and {y n } of X satisfy p(x n, z)=0and p(y n, z)=0for some z X, then d(x n, y n )=0. () If p(x, z) = 0 and p(y, z) = 0, then x = y. Lemma 2.7 ([13]) Let X be a metric space with a metric d and let p be a u-distance on X. Suppose that a sequence {x n } of X satisfies sup{ p(x n, x m ):m > n } =0 or sup{ p(x m, x n ):m > n } =0. Then {x n } is a p-cauchy sequence. 3 Main result The following lemma plays an important role in proving our theorems. Lemma 3.1 Let (X, d) be a metric space with a u-distance p on X and {a n } and {b n } be sequences of X such that sup{ p(a n, a m ):m > n } =0 and sup{ p(a n, b m ):m > n } =0. Then there exist a subsequence {a kn } of {a n } and a subsequence {b kn } of {b n } such that d(a kn, b kn )=0. Proof Since p is a u-distance on X, there exists a mapping θ : X X R + R + R + such that θ is nondecreasing in its third and (3.1) fourth variable respectively, satisfying (u 2 ) (u 5 ). For each n N,let α n = sup { p(a n, a m ):m > n } and β n = sup { p(a n, b m ):m > n }. (3.2)
Ume Fixed Point Theory and Applications (2015) 2015:38 Page of 13 By hypotheses and (3.2), we have (α n + β n )=0. (3.3) Let k 1 N be an arbitrary and fixed element. Then, by (u 2 ), for this a k1 X and ε =1,there exists δ 1 >0suchthat s = s < δ 1, t = t < δ 1, y X imply θ(a k1, y, s, t) < 1. (3.) By virtue of (3.3)and(3.), for this δ 1 >0,thereexistsM 1 N such that n M 1 implies α n + β n < δ 1. (3.5) Let k 2 N be such that k 2 max{1+k 1, M 1 }. (3.6) Due to (3.6), we have k 1 < k 2 and k 2 M 1. (3.7) From (3.), (3.5), (3.6)and(3.7)weget θ(a k1, a k2, α k2 + β k2, α k2 + β k2 ) < 1. (3.8) In terms of (u 2 )and(3.6), for this a k2 X and ε = 1 2,thereexistsδ 2 >0suchthat s = s < δ 2, t = t < δ 2, y X imply θ(a k2, y, s, t)< 1 2. (3.9) In view of (3.3)and(3.9), for this δ 2 >0,thereexistsM 2 N such that n M 2 implies α n + β n < δ 2. (3.10) Let k 3 N be such that k 3 max{1+k 2, M 2 }. (3.11) On account of (3.9), (3.10), (3.11), we obtain k 2 < k 3 and θ(a k2, a k3, α k3 + β k3, α k3 + β k3 )< 1 2. (3.12) Continuing this process, there exist a subsequence {a kn } of {a n } and a subsequence {b kn } of {b n } such that for all n N, θ(a kn, a kn+1, α kn+1 + β kn+1, α kn+1 + β kn+1 )< 1 n. (3.13)
Ume Fixed Point Theory and Applications (2015) 2015:38 Page 5 of 13 Using (3.2), (3.3)and(3.13), we know that { [ sup p(akn, a km+1 ):m n ]} { [ ]} sup p(akn, a l ):l > k n = α k n =0 and θ(a k n, a kn+1, α kn+1 + β kn+1, α kn+1 + β kn+1 )=0. (3.1) Using (3.1), (3.2), (3.1)andputtingx n = y n = a kn, w m = z m = a km+1 and s n = t n = α kn+1 + β kn+1 in (u ), we deduce θ( a kn+1, a kn+1, p(a kn+1, a kn+2 ), p(a kn+1, a kn+2 ) ) =0 θ( a kn+1, a kn+1, p(a kn+1, b kn+2 ), p(a kn+1, b kn+2 ) ) =0. and (3.15) Using (3.15)andputtingw n = z n = a kn+1, x n = a kn+2 and y n = b kn+2 in (u 5 ), we have d(a k n+2, b kn+2 )=0. (3.16) Due to (3.13) and(3.16), there exist a subsequence {a kn } of {a n } and a subsequence {b kn } of {b n } such that d(a k n, b kn )=0. (3.17) Definition 3.2 Let (X, d) beametricspace,2 X be a set of all nonempty subsets of X and Cl(X) be a set of all nonempty closed subsets of X.LetT : X 2 X.Thenanelementz X is a fixed point of T if z Tz. A mapping T : X 2 X is called Kannan-type multi-valued p-contractive mapping if there exist a u-distance p on X and r [0, 1 2 )suchthat (i) p(y 1, y 2 ) r[p(x 1, y 1 )+p(x 2, y 2 )] for any x 1, x 2 X, y 1 Tx 1 and y 2 Tx 2, (ii) Ty Tx for all x, y X with y Tx. In the next example we shall show that if (X, d) is a complete metric space with a u-distance p and a mapping T : X Cl(X) is not Kannan-type multi-valued p-contractive, in general, T may have no fixed point in X. Example 3.3 Let X = [0, 1] be a closed interval with the usual metric and p : X X R + and T : X Cl(X) be mappings defined as follows: p(x, y)= { 2, x =0, x, x 0, (3.18) Tx = { { 1 [ }, x =0, x 8(1+x), x (1+x) ], x 0. (3.19)
Ume Fixed Point Theory and Applications (2015) 2015:38 Page 6 of 13 Define θ : X X R + R + R + by θ(x, y, s, t)=s (3.20) for all x, y X and s, t R +. From (3.18)and(3.20) easily we can obtain that p is a u-distance on X. In terms of (3.18)and(3.19), we have p(y 1, y 2 ) 1 [ p(x1, y 1 )+p(x 2, y 2 ) ] (3.21) for all x 1, x 2 X, y 1 Tx 1 and y 2 Tx 2. To show that (3.21) is satisfied, we need to consider several possible cases. Case 1. Let x 1 = x 2 =0.Theny 1 Tx 1 = { } 1, y 2 Tx 2 = { } 1, p(y 1, y 2 )=y 1 = 1, p(x 1, y 1 )=2andp(x 2, y 2 )=2and 1 [ p(x1, y 1 )+p(x 2, y 2 ) ] = 1 [2 + 2] = 1 1 = p(y 1, y 2 ). Thus p(y 1, y 2 ) 1 [ p(x1, y 1 )+p(x 2, y 2 ) ]. Case 2. Let x 1 =0andx 2 0.Theny 1 Tx 1 = [ y 2 Tx 2 = x 2 8(1 + x 2 ), x 2 (1 + x 2 ) { } 1, ], p(y 1, y 2 )=y 1 = 1, p(x 1, y 1 )=2andp(x 2, y 2 )=x 2.Thus 1 [ p(x1, y 1 )+p(x 2, y 2 ) ] = 1 [2 + x 2] 1 = p(y 1, y 2 ). [ Case 3. Let x 1 0andx 2 =0.Theny 1 Tx 1 = y 2 Tx 2 = { } 1, p(y 1, y 2 )=y 1 x 1 (1 + x 1 ), p(x 1, y 1 )=x 1 x 1 8(1 + x 1 ), x 1 (1 + x 1 ) and p(x 2, y 2 )=2.Thus 1 [ p(x1, y 1 )+p(x 2, y 2 ) ] = 1 [x x ] (1 + x 1 ) p(y 1, y 2 ). [ Case. Let x 1 0andx 2 0.Theny 1 Tx 1 = [ x 2 y 2 Tx 2 = 8(1 + x 2 ) x 2 (1 + x 2 ) ], p(y 1, y 2 )=y 1 p(x 1, y 1 )=x 1 and p(x 2, y 2 )=x 2.Thus 1 [ p(x1, y 1 )+p(x 2, y 2 ) ] = 1 { [x 1 + x 2 ] max x 1 8(1 + x 1 ), x 1 (1 + x 1 ) x 1 (1 + x 1 ), x 1 (1 + x 1 ), x 2 (1 + x 2 ) ], ], } p(y 1, y 2 ). (3.22) (3.23) (3.2) (3.25)
Ume Fixed Point Theory and Applications (2015) 2015:38 Page 7 of 13 From (3.18) (3.25), we have p(y 1, y 2 ) 1 [ p(x1, y 1 )+p(x 2, y 2 ) ] (3.26) for all x 1, x 2 X, y 1 Tx 1 and y 2 Tx 2. But there exist x =0 X and y = 1 X with y Tx such that Ty = T 1 =[ 1 0, 1 20 ] { 1 } = T0. Therefore T is not Kannan-type multi-valued p-contractive and T does not have a fixed point. Using Lemma 3.1, we have the following main theorem. Theorem 3. Let (X, d) be a complete metric space and let T : X Cl(X) be a Kannantype multi-valued p-contractive mapping. Then T has a unique fixed point in X. Proof Let a 1 X be arbitrary, a 2 Ta 1 and a 3 Ta 2 be chosen. Since T is Kannan-type p-contractive, p(a 2, a 3 ) r [ p(a 1, a 2 )+p(a 2, a 3 ) ], (3.27) where r [0, 1 2 ). From (3.27), we get p(a 2, a 3 ) kp(a 1, a 2 ), (3.28) where k = r [0, 1). 1 r By (3.27)and(3.28), we obtain a sequence {a n } in X such that a n+1 Ta n and p(a n+1, a n+2 ) kp(a n, a n+1 ) (3.29) for all n N. By repeated application of (3.29), we have p(a n, a n+1 ) k n 1 p(a 1, a 2 ) (3.30) for all n N. Now we shall know that {a n } is a Cauchy sequence. Let n, m N be such that n < m.then,byvirtueof(3.30), we deduce p(a n, a m ) p(a n, a n+1 )+p(a n+1, a n+2 )+ + p(a m 1, a m ) m 1 m 1 = p(a i, a i+1 ) k i 1 p(a 1, a 2 ) i=n In view of (3.31), we get i=n ( k n 1 ) p(a 1, a 2 ). (3.31) 1 k sup{ p(a n, a m ):m > n } =0. (3.32)
Ume Fixed Point Theory and Applications (2015) 2015:38 Page 8 of 13 On account of Lemma 2.5, Lemma 2.7 and (3.32), {a n } is a Cauchy sequence in X.SinceX is complete, there exists b 1 X such that a n = b 1. (3.33) By the same method as that in (3.27) (3.33), there exists a sequence {b n } in X such that b n+1 Tb n and p(b n, b n+1 ) k n 1 p(b 1, b 2 ) (3.3) for all n N. Combining the hypothesis, (3.27), (3.28), (3.30), (3.31)and(3.3), we have p(a n, b m ) p(a n, a m )+p(a m, b m ) p(a n, a m )+r [ p(a m 1, a m )+p(b m 1, b m ) ] ( k n 1 ) p(a 1, a 2 )+r [ k m 2 p(a 1, a 2 )+k m 2 p(b 1, b 2 ) ] 1 k ( k n 1 ) p(a 1, a 2 )+k n 1 p(a 1, a 2 )+k n 1 p(b 1, b 2 ) 1 k {( ) } 1 = k n 1 p(a 1, a 2 )+p(a 1, a 2 )+p(b 1, b 2 ) 1 k (3.35) for all n, m N with m > n. By (3.35), we have sup{ p(a n, b m ):m > n } =0. (3.36) Due to Lemma 3.1,(3.32)and(3.36), there exist a subsequence {a kn } of {a n } and a subsequence {b kn } of {b n } such that d(a k n, b kn )=0. (3.37) On account of the hypothesis and (3.3), we obtain b n+1 Tb 1 (3.38) for all n N. Byvirtue ofthehypothesis, (3.33), (3.37) and(3.38), we have b 1 Tb 1. (3.39) Due to (3.39), b 1 is a fixed point of T. To prove the unique fixed point of T,letc 1 be another fixed point of T.Then c 1 Tc 1. (3.0)
Ume Fixed Point Theory and Applications (2015) 2015:38 Page 9 of 13 Since T iskannan-typemulti-valued p-contractive, by (3.39)and(3.0), we have p(b 1, b 1 ) r [ p(b 1, b 1 )+p(b 1, b 1 ) ], (3.1) p(c 1, c 1 ) r [ p(c 1, c 1 )+p(c 1, c 1 ) ], (3.2) p(b 1, c 1 ) r [ p(b 1, b 1 )+p ( c 1, c 1)]. (3.3) Since r [0, 1 ), from (3.1), (3.2)and(3.3), we get 2 p(b 1, b 1 )=p(c 1, c 1 )=p(b 1, c 1 )=0. (3.) By virtue of Lemma 2.6 and (3.), we have b 1 = c 1. (3.5) On account of (3.39), (3.0)and(3.5), T has a unique fixed point. NowwegiveanexampletosupportTheorem3.. Example 3.5 Let X = [0, 1] be a closed interval with the usual metric, and p : X X R + and T : X Cl(X) be mappings defined as follows: p(x, y) =x, Tx = [0, 1 ] x. (3.6) Let θ : X X R + R + R + be as in (3.20). Then, due to (3.6), we easily can obtain that p is a u-distance on X. From (3.6), we have p(y 1, y 2 ) 1 [ p(x1, y 1 )+p(x 2, y 2 ) ] (3.7) for all x 1, x 2 X, y 1 Tx 1 and y 2 Tx 2. To show that (3.7) issatisfied,letx 1, x 2 X, y 1 Tx 1 and y 2 Tx 2.Thenp(y 1, y 2 )=y 1 1 x 1 and 1 [p(x 1, y 1 )+p(x 2, y 2 )] = 1 (x 1 + x 2 ) 1 x 1.Thus(3.7) issatisfied.letx, y X be such that y Tx. Then0 y 1 x and Ty [0, 1 16 x] [0, 1 x]=tx. ThusTy Tx for all x, y X with y Tx. Therefore all the conditions of Theorem 3. are satisfied and T has a unique fixed point 0 in X. Definition 3.6 Let (X, d) be a metric space. A mapping T : X X is called Kannan-type single-valued p-contractive mapping if there exist a u-distance p on X and r [0, 1 2 )such that (iii) p(tx 1, Tx 2 ) r[p(x 1, Tx 1 )+p(x 2, Tx 2 )] for any x 1, x 2 X, (iv) if {x n } is a sequence in X such that x n+1 = Tx n for each n N and x n = c X, then p(tc, c) r[p(tc, Tc) +p(c, Tc)] and p(c, Tc) r[p(tc, Tc) +p(tc, c)]. In the following example we show that if (X, d) is a complete metric space and a mapping T : X X is not Kannan-type single-valued p-contractive, in general, T may have no fixed point in X.
Ume Fixed Point Theory and Applications (2015) 2015:38 Page 10 of 13 Example 3.7 Let X = [0, 1] be a closed interval with the usual metric, and p : X X R + and T : X X be mappings defined as follows: { 2, x =0, p(x, y)= (3.8) x, x 0, { 1 Tx =, x =0, x (1+x), x 0. (3.9) Define θ : X X R + R + R + by θ(x, y, s, t)=s. (3.50) By the same methods as in Example 3.3,weknowthatp is a u-distance on X and T is not Kannan-type single-valued p-contractive and T has no fixed point in X. Theorem 3.8 Let (X, d) be a metric space with a u-distance p on X. Let T : X X be a Kannan-type single-valued p-contractive mapping such that there exist a sequence {x n } of X and c Xsatisfyingx n+1 = Tx n for each n Nand x n = c X. Then c is a fixed point of T, i.e., Tc = c. Proof By hypotheses, we obtain p(tc, Tc) r [ p(c, Tc)+p(c, Tc) ] =2rp(c, Tc), (3.51) p(tc, c) r [ p(tc, Tc)+p(c, Tc) ] r [ 2rp(c, Tc)+p(c, Tc) ] = r(2r +1)p(c, Tc), (3.52) p(c, Tc) r [ p(tc, Tc)+p(Tc, c) ] r { 2rp(c, Tc)+r(2r +1)p(c, Tc) } = ( 2r 3 +3r 2) p(c, Tc). (3.53) Since r [0, 1 2 ), 2r, r(2r + 1), (2r3 +3r 2 ) [0, 1) and thus, by (3.51), (3.52) and(3.53), we have p(tc, Tc) =p(tc, c) =p(c, Tc). (3.5) In view of Lemma 2.6 and (3.5), Tc = c. (3.55) This means that c is a fixed point of T. Theorem 3.9 Let (X, d) be a complete metric space and let T : X X be a Kannan-type single-valued p-contractive mapping. Then T has a unique fixed point in X.
Ume Fixed Point Theory and Applications (2015) 2015:38 Page 11 of 13 Proof Since T is Kannan type single-valued p-contractive, there exists a sequence {x n } of X such that x n+1 = Tx n and p(x n+1, x n+2 ) kp(x n, x n+1 ) (3.56) for all n N,wherek [0, 1). By repeated application of (3.56), we have p(x n, x n+1 ) k n 1 p(x 1, x 2 ) (3.57) for all n N. On account of (3.57), we get p(x n, x m ) p(x n, x n+1 )+p(x n+1, x n+2 )+ + p(x m 1, x m ) m 1 m 1 p(x i, x i+1 ) k i 1 p(x 1, x 2 ) i=n i=n ( k n 1 ) p(x 1, x 2 ) (3.58) 1 k for all n, m N with n < m. In view of (3.58), we deduce that sup{ p(x n, x m ):m > n } =0. (3.59) By virtue of Lemma 2.5, Lemma 2.7 and (3.59), we know that {x n } is a Cauchy sequence. Since X is complete, there exists c X such that x n = c. (3.60) On account of the hypothesis, Theorem 3.8, (3.56) and(3.60), we know that c is a fixed point, i.e., Tc = c. (3.61) By the same method as that in (3.0) (3.5), we can prove that T has a unique fixed point X. From Theorem 3.9, we have the following corollary. Corollary 3.10 ([1]) Let (X, d) be a complete metric space and let T : X X be a mapping such that d(tx, Ty) r [ d(x, Tx)+d(y, Ty) ] for all x, y Xandsomer [0, 1 2 ). Then T has a unique fixed point in X.
Ume Fixed Point Theory and Applications (2015) 2015:38 Page 12 of 13 Proof By the same methods asin (3.56) (3.59), we deduce that sup{ d(x n, x m ):m > n } =0, (3.62) where x n+1 = Tx n for all n N. Since X is complete, there exists c X such that x n = c. (3.63) Due to the hypothesis and (3.62), we get d(x n+1, Tc)=d(Tx n, Tc) r [ d(x n, Tx n )+d(c, Tc) ] = r [ d(x n, x n+1 )+d(c, Tc) ] (3.6) for all n N and some r [0, 1 2 ). Taking the it as n in (3.6), we obtain d(c, Tc) rd(c, Tc) (3.65) for some r [0, 1 2 ). From (3.65), we have d(c, Tc) =0. (3.66) Since metric d is a u-distance, by view of (3.62), (3.63), (3.66) and the hypothesis, conditions of Corollary 3.10 satisfy all conditions of Theorem 3.9. Therefore T has a unique fixed point. Finally we shall present an example to show that all conditions of Theorem 3.9 are satisfied, but all conditions of Corollary 3.10 arenot satisfied. Example 3.11 Let X = [0, 1] be a closed interval with the usual metric, and p : X X R + and T : X X be mappings defined as follows: p(x, y) =x, Tx = 1 x. (3.67) Then, due to (3.67),weeasilycanobtainthatp is a u-distance on X, but not metric and p(tx, Ty) 1 [ p(x, Tx)+p(y, Ty) ] (3.68) for all x, y X. Suppose that {x n } is a sequence of X such that x n+1 = Tx n for all x N.
Ume Fixed Point Theory and Applications (2015) 2015:38 Page 13 of 13 Then, by (3.67), we have x n+1 = Tx n = 1 x n (3.69) for all n N. By virtue of (3.69), ( ) 1 n 1 x n = x 1 =0. (3.70) On accountof (3.67) (3.70), all conditions of Theorem 3.9are satisfied, but all conditions of Corollary 3.10 are not satisfied since p is not metric.
