We describe ho to use this conjecture to compute genus zero, one boundary component open Gromov-Witten invariants for Lagrangian submanifolds L K X obtained from the conormal bundles of knots K S 3. This computation is then performed for to non-toric examples the figure-eight and three-tist knots. For r, s torus knots, the open Gromov-Witten invariants can also be computed using Atiyah-Bott localization. Using this result for the unknot and the 3, 2 torus knot, e sho that the augmentation polynomial can be derived from these open Gromov-Witten invariants. Keyords: mirror symmetry; Gromov-Witten theory; Legendrian contact homology; knot theory. Introduction Gromov-Witten theory has famously benefited from its connections ith string dualities, first ith mirror symmetry [,2], and more recently, large N duality [3,4]. Beginning ith [5], for toric manifolds, Gromov-Witten invariants associated ith maps of closed surfaces have also been systematically computed using localization [6 8]. Although the analogous constructions in open Gromov-Witten theory are not rigorously defined in general, many of the same computational tools such as mirror symmetry and Atiyah-Bott localization can still be applied. In contrast to the closed theory, open Gromov-Witten theory also possesses many direct relationships ith knot theory. Large N duality relates Chern-Simons theory on S 3 to Gromov-Witten theory on X = O P, via the conifold transition. Wilson loops in Chern-Simons theory on S 3 are also related to the HOMFLY polynomials of knots K S 3 [9]. This relationship equates the colored HOMFLY polynomials of knots K ith generating functions for open Gromov-Witten invariants of X ith Lagrangian boundary L K obtained from the conormal bundle NK T S 3, and has been checked for torus knots in [0]. Recently, it has also been suggested that open Gromov Witten theory is related to another type of knot invariant arising in Legendrian contact homology [,2]. For a knot K S 3, Legendrian contact homology associates a dga A Λ K ith its unit conormal bundle Λ K U S 3. The unit conormal bundle Λ K T 2 is a Legendrian submanifold of the unit cotangent bundle U S 3 a contact manifold, and the differential on A Λ K is obtained, roughly speaking, from counts of maps of holomorphic disks to Λ K R. An augmentation of A Λ K is a dga map ɛ : A Λ K C, here C is interpreted as a dga ith trivial differential. The moduli space of such augmentations is described by an equation A K x, p, Q = 0, here x, p, and Q are generators for H 2 U S 3, Λ K. A K is called the augmentation polynomial of the knot K more detailed accounts of Legendrian contact homology can be found in [2,3]. Mirror symmetry is a relationship beteen to Calabi-Yau manifolds X and ˆX that identifies the symplectic structure on X ith the complex structure on ˆX, and vice versa see [,2]. 2 Symmetry 207, 9, of 5 The Strominger Yau Zaslo conjecture offers a geometric interpretation of mirror symmetry in terms of dual torus fibrations by special Lagrangian submanifolds [4]. When X is O P,, the special Lagrangian fibers can be understood as originating from conormal bundles to unknots K S 3 under large N duality [3,4]. In [], Aganagic and Vafa generalize the Strominger-Yau-Zaslo conjecture to cases here the special Lagrangian fibers are obtained from arbitrary knots K S 3 by identifying this moduli space ith the augmentation polynomial A K of the knot. Mirror symmetry interprets this moduli space as the superpotential associated ith the B-model topological string theory. The dual A-model theory s superpotential contains the open Gromov-Witten invariants associated ith L K, so Aganagic and Vafa s conjecture can be rephrased as follos: Conjecture. Let K S 3 be a knot, and L K X be a Lagrangian submanifold of X = O P, ith geometry K R 2. Let A K denote the augmentation polynomial of K, and W K x, Q denote the genus-zero, one boundary component open Gromov Witten potential Then, W K x, Q = K 0, d, Qd x. d, log p x, Q dx x = W K x, Q, here p x, Q is the function implicitly defined by the equation A K x, p, Q = 0. More generally, the moduli of Lagrangian branes ith geometry K R 2 is given by the equation A K x, p, Q = 0, and K determines a mirror manifold ˆX K defined by the hypersurface ˆX K = {uv = A K x, p, Q} C 4. The goal of this paper is to use this conjecture to compute Gromov-Witten invariants and augmentation polynomials. Because the augmentation polynomial can be computed for non-toric knots, this method can be applied in scenarios here Atiyah-Bott localization cannot be used. On the other hand, for r, s torus knots, open Gromov-Witten invariants are knon from localization, and this data provides another means of obtaining the augmentation polynomial of K... Statement of Main Results The main result of this paper is a technique for computing open Gromov-Witten invariants using Conjecture. This technique is applied for to non-toric knots the 4 and 5 2 knots for hich a direct approach using Atiyah-Bott localization is intractable. Proposition. Let K d, denote the open Gromov-Witten invariants of degree d and inding for the 4 and 5 2 knots in framing 0 computed using Conjecture. Then, for 8 and all d, K d, satisfy the integrality constraint K d, = n d and n n 2 N d/n,/n. 2 While, for non-toric knots, K d, cannot be found through localization removing the possibility of comparison against direct computation, the integrality constraint 2 is a strong restriction satisfied by Gromov-Witten invariants. For a toric knot, the situation is better a comparison ith direct calculation can be made. This is done for to simple knots the unknot and 3, 2 trefoil knot, and can at least in theory be done for any torus knot.
Symmetry 207, 9, of 5 Proposition 2. Let K d, denote the open Gromov-Witten invariants of degree d and inding for the unknot and 3, 2 torus knot. Then, for each knot, the augmentation polynomial A K can be recovered from the corresponding open Gromov-Witten invariants. Note that, for an r, s torus knot, the computational complexity of the algorithm used for this calculation scales quite poorly ith increasing r, s, so there are practical limitations to obtaining augmentation polynomials for arbitrary torus knots in this ay..2. Organization of the Paper This paper is organized in the folloing ay. Section 2 revies mirror symmetry for open Gromov-Witten invariants, and describes Aganagic and Vafa s conjecture relating mirror symmetry and the augmentation polynomial. Section 3 applies this conjecture to compute open Gromov-Witten invariants in to non-toric examples. Finally, Section 4 performs the reverse of this computation: the open Gromov-Witten invariants associated to torus knots are used to recover the corresponding augmentation polynomials. Note that, for r, s torus knots, open Gromov-Witten invariants in framing rs have been computed directly via localization in [0]. 2. Open String Mirror Symmetry and the Augmentation Polynomial Recently, ne developments in knot theory and open topological string theory have uncovered connections beteen open Gromov-Witten theory and knot theory [4,0 2]. The subject of interest in this note is open Gromov-Witten theory for Lagrangian submanifolds of X = O P,. Let Σ be a genus-zero Riemann surface ith one boundary component. Denote by K d, the open Gromov-Witten invariant associated ith a stable map f : Σ X ith Lagrangian boundary conditions on a Lagrangian submanifold L X, here d = [ f Σ] H 2 X, L and = [ f Σ] H L. This section describes a technique for computing K d, using a mirror symmetry conjecture [,2]. X can be obtained by symplectic reduction on C 4. Let z, z 2, z 3, z 4 be coordinates for C 4, and let S act on C 4 ith eights,,, ; then, X = { } z 2 + z 2 2 z 3 2 z 4 2 = r /S, 3 here r R >0. The coordinates on the base P are z and z 2, and the z 3, z 4 coordinates parametrize the fiber. According to the Strominger-Yau-Zaslo conjecture for noncompact X [4,5], X is a special Lagrangian fibration over a base B = R 3, ith generic fibers L = T 2 R. In these coordinates, the base B and the special Lagrangian fibers L are easy to describe. The base B is the image of X under the moment map z i z i 2, and the fibers L are given by the equations z 2 2 z 4 2 = c, z 3 2 z 4 2 = c 2, Arg z z 2 z 3 z 4 = 0, 4 here c, c 2 R. For generic values of c, c 2, L has topology T 2 R; hoever, along a critical locus such as hen either c 0 or c 2 0, the topology of the fibers degenerates to to copies of S R 2. This critical locus along hich the fibers degenerate forms a trivalent graph in B, corresponding to the edges of the moment polytope. The moment polytope and special Lagrangian fibers are depicted in Figure.
Symmetry 207, 9, of 5 II I III Figure. The moment polytope and special Lagrangian fibers of X. The moment polytope of X = O P, is its image π X R 4 under the moment map π z i = z i 2. The images of the special Lagrangian fibers of X in the moment polytope are vertical lines, hich can intersect X three ays: along the base P type I, along an exterior leg of the polytope type II, or on a face type III. Lagrangian fibers of type III have topology T 2 R, corresponding to nondegenerate solutions in 4. Fibers of type I and II have topology S R 2, corresponding to degenerate solutions such as c 2 = 0 or c = 0, respectively. 2.. The Mirror of O P, The construction of [5,6] gives the mirror manifold ˆX to X in terms of a dual Landau-Ginsburg theory. For X = O P,, the mirror geometry is obtained from a U linear sigma model of four fields ith charges,,,. The mirror geometry is described by { ˆX = uv = y 2 + y 3 + y 4 + y 3y 4 e t y 2 here u, v C, y j C, t = r + iθ is the complexified Kähler parameter, and y has been eliminated using the relation y y 2 = y 3 y 4 e t. The Strominger-Yau-Zaslo SYZ conjecture [4] asserts that the mirror ˆX is the moduli of the special Lagrangian fibers of X. The choice of coordinate patch for the y j s determines hich phase of Lagrangian fibers is being described. This coordinate choice is explained in further detail in [7]. In this note, the relevant coordinates are the y 2 = patch. In addition, to achieve later agreement ith conventions from knot contact homology, the folloing change of coordinates ill be used: Q := e t, x := y 3 /Q, p := y 4 /Q. Then, in this patch and coordinate system, the mirror manifold is }, ˆX = {uv = Qx Qp + Qxp}. 5 Example Open Gromov-Witten invariants via mirror symmetry. Consider Lagrangian fibers L of type II. These Lagrangians have topology S R 2, and intersect the base P along the S. In the mirror, the moduli space of such Lagrangian fibers is the Riemann surface S ˆX defined by setting uv = 0: S = { Qx Qp + Qxp = 0}. Mirror symmetry equates the periods of certain differential forms on ˆX to generating functions for open Gromov Witten invariants. In this case, the prediction of mirror symmetry is that up to constant factors in x λ = K d, Q d x, 6 d,
Symmetry 207, 9, of 5 here λ := log p dx x is a one-form along S defined by solving Qx Qp + Qxp = 0 for p, and K d, is the genus-0, degree-d, inding open Gromov-Witten invariant ith boundary on L. In terms of x and Q, so Equation 6 asserts that x log p x; Q = log Q + log Qx = log Q + K d, Q d x = d, n= n= n + Qn x n, n 2 + Qn x n. Hence,, d = 0, 2 K d, =, d =, d 2 0, otherise. Note that, in this case, K d, has also been computed directly using localization in [8], and these results agree in framing 0. Open Gromov-Witten invariants are also conjectured to satisfy certain integrality requirements [5,9]. For genus-zero, one-boundary-component invariants, the requirement is that K d, = here N d, Z. In terms of the generating function for K d,, this is K d, Q d x = d, n>0 n n d and 2 N d/n,/n, 7 n d, n 2 N d,q d x. In the previous example, N 0, =, N, =, and N d, = 0 for all other d, Knots and the Conifold Transition The Lagrangian submanifolds described by Equation 4 have a very specific geometry. A natural question is: What are the open Gromov-Witten invariants associated ith Lagrangians ith a different geometry? One ay of obtaining such Lagrangians is through the conifold transition [4,0]. The manifold X = O P, can also be obtained as the resolution of the conifold singularity in C 4 it is given by the equations xz y = 0, xλ = ρ, yλ = zρ, here x, y, z,, [λ : ρ] C 4 P. The conifold singularity xz y = 0 is the limit of the hypersurface Y µ := {xz y = µ} C 4 as µ 0. For µ = 0, Y µ is symplectomorphic to the cotangent bundle T S 3. The zero section S µ = S 3 Y µ is the fixed locus of the antiholomorphic involution x, y, z, z,, x, y, and is described by the equation x 2 + y 2 = µ. Aay from the zero sections, the conifold transition gives
Symmetry 207, 9, of 5 a map beteen T S 3 and X [0]. Consequently, a Lagrangian submanifold of T S 3 that does not intersect the zero section S 3 can be identified ith a Lagrangian submanifold of X, hich also does not intersect the zero section. Knots K S 3 are a source of Lagrangian submanifolds in T S 3 : the conormal bundle N K T S 3 is Lagrangian ith topology S R 2. In order to obtain a Lagrangian submanifold of X from N K, N K must first be moved off of the zero section. This can be done by choosing a lift of K, as described in [0]. The image of the shifted conormal bundle ill be a Lagrangian submanifold L K X, as depicted in Figure 2. L K L K C D K φ µ σ ɛ S 3 Y µ Y 0 X Figure 2. The conifold transition and knots. The Lagrangian L K Y µ = T S 3 is constructed by shifting the conormal bundle of a knot K S 3 off of the zero section. This lift introduces a holomorphic cylinder C connecting the knot on S 3 to its image in L K. Y 0 is the conifold singularity xz y = 0 in C 4. The map φ µ : Y µ Y 0 is a symplectomorphism aay from the zero section, so φ µ L K is a Lagrangian submanifold of Y 0. X = O P, is the small resolution of the conifold singularity, and σ ɛ : X Y 0 is the corresponding natural map. In fact, there are a family of such maps, here ɛ parametrizes the symplectic area of the zero section P X. Hence, L K := σɛ φ µ L K is a Lagrangian submanifold of X. The holomorphic disk D is the image of C under the conifold transition Open Gromov-Witten Invariants and the Augmentation Polynomial For torus knots, the corresponding open Gromov-Witten invariants of X, L K have been computed directly using localization in [0], and using mirror symmetry in [20,2]. Hoever, the mirror symmetry approach of [20] does not readily generalize to non-toric knots. In this subsection, a recent conjecture of Aganagic and Vafa [] is applied to compute open Gromov-Witten invariants via an analogous mirror symmetry computation. This approach uses the augmentation polynomial from Legendrian contact homology. In contrast to localization and the method of [20], this method can be applied for any knot hose augmentation polynomial is knon including non-toric knots. The Aganagic Vafa conjecture can be motivated by observing that the mirror to ˆX given in Equation 5 can be ritten as ˆX = {uv = Ax, p; Q}, here Ax, p; Q = Qx Qp + Qxp is the augmentation polynomial of the unknot in Legendrian contact homology [3,22]. The moduli of Lagrangian submanifolds ith topology S R 2 as described by the zero locus {Ax, p; Q = 0} ˆX. Moreover, the image of a shifted conormal bundle to the unknot under the conifold transition described in Section 2.2 is exactly one of these Lagrangian fibers [4,23]. Hence, one might speculate
Symmetry 207, 9, of 5 that the moduli of Lagrangian submanifolds L K X obtained from the conormal bundles of other knots K S 3 are given by the Riemann surface {A K x, p; Q = 0}, here A K x, p; Q is the augmentation polynomial of the knot K. Aganagic and Vafa then conjecture that, for each choice of knot, there is a corresponding mirror ˆX K describing the moduli space of Lagrangian fibers ith geometry L K along the singular locus, and that ˆX K is described by ˆX K := {uv = A K x, p; Q}. In addition to the apparent coincidence beteen the unknot s augmentation polynomial and the mirror ˆX, there are also physical arguments for this conjecture coming from the connections beteen topological string theory, Chern-Simons theory, and the HOMFLY polynomial [,2,2,24]. The augmentation polynomial A K can be identified ith the classical limit of the Q-deformed quantum A-polynomial, hich satisfies an elimination condition on the Chern-Simons partition function in the presence of a Wilson loop coming from K. This Chern-Simons partition function can in turn be obtained from the colored HOMFLY polynomials of K, and is identified ith the open Gromov-Witten generating function under the conifold transition. For the purposes of computing genus-zero open Gromov-Witten invariants, the application of this conjecture is straightforard: as in Section 2., the open Gromov-Witten generating function is equated ith the integral of a differential form: K d, Q d x = d, Hoever, px; Q is no determined by the equation A K x, p; Q = 0. log px; Q dx x. The main difficulty is that A K x, p; Q may be a high-order polynomial in p, so it is not alays feasible to find analytic solutions for p. Even for torus knots, this can be an obstacle: for an r, s torus knot, deg p = r + s s, deg x = deg p r + s are the maximum degrees [2]. Fortunately, to compute K d, for a given d and, only a series solution for p is needed. Suppose that px; Q = exp n=0 W n Qx n 8, 9 here W n Q is a polynomial in Q for n > 0, and W 0 Q determines the overall scaling of p. Note that in all considered examples, W 0 Q = logq, i.e., px; Q /Q +. Then, substitute this expression into A K x, px; Q; Q = 0. The resulting expression ill be a series in x, hich can be solved by recursively finding the coefficients W n Q in general, the coefficient of x n ill be a polynomial function of {W k Q} k n. The coefficients W n Q are related to the K d, by W n Q = nk d, Q d. d
Symmetry 207, 9, of 5 For completeness, the integer invariants N d, can be similarly determined from the K d, : Equation 7 can be re-ritten as N d, = K d, n n d and 2 N d/n,/n, n n> so by starting ith N 0, = K 0,, successive N d, can be solved for. The folloing section uses this method to compute K d, and N d, for to non-toric knots. 3. Non-Toric Examples As compared ith Atiyah Bott localization, one advantage of computing open Gromov Witten invariants from the augmentation polynomial is that this technique does not require that the Lagrangian L is fixed by a torus action. Such Lagrangians can be obtained from the conormal bundles of non-toric knots. This section performs the computation of Section 2.3 for to non-toric knots: the 4 figure-eight knot and the 5 2 three-tist knot. In contrast to torus knots, these knots cannot be expressed as the link of the singularity x r y s = 0 in S 3 for any r, s Z. For non-toric knots, it is not currently knon ho to directly compute the open Gromov Witten invariants K d, using localization. Hoever, the invariants computed in the folloing examples have been checked to satisfy the integrality condition 7 for all 8 and arbitrary d, and the results may be compared against the colored HOMFLY polynomials in the symmetric representations. 3.. The 4 Figure-Eight Knot The 4 knot is the unique knot ith crossing number 4, and is a tist knot obtained from to half-tists. According to [,23], the augmentation polynomial of the 4 knot in framing 0 is A K x, p, Q = p 2 Qp 3 + Q 3 p 5 2Q 3 p 4 + 2Qp Q x + Q 5 p 5 + 2Q 4 p 4 2Q 3 p + Q 2 x 2 + Q 5 p 3 Q 5 p 2 x 3. Rescaling x by x Qx, one can obtain a series solution for log p using the method of Section 2.3. The first fe terms are log p = log Q + Q 3 2Q 2 + 2Q x 5Q Q5 + 9Q 4 9Q 2 + 8Q 5 x The coefficients of this series solution determine the open Gromov Witten invariants K d, and corresponding integer invariants N d,. For 4, 0 d 3, these invariants are listed in Tables and 2. The integrality condition N d, Z has also been verified for all 8 and arbitrary d. Note that, for 8, K d, = N d, = 0 for any d > 24. Table. These invariants are listed in Tables 3 and 4. As for the 4 knot, the integrality condition N d, Z has also been checked for all 8, and it as again found that K d, = N d, = 0 for any 8 and d > 24. As seen in the previous section, open Gromov-Witten
Symmetry 207, 9, of 5 invariants can be extracted from the augmentation polynomial. For torus knots, the genus zero open Gromov-Witten invariants can also be computed directly via localization. The formula is: Lemma. Suppose r, s are coprime, r > s > 0, and s d > 0. Let K be the r, s torus knot, and X, L K, and K d, as above. Then, K d, = d+ d r k s k d! d k= r + s k s k= s here r, s are coprime, r > s > 0 and s d 0. For d > s, K d, = 0. r + s k, 0 s k The proof of this lemma is postponed to the Appendix A. This section describes a method for obtaining the augmentation polynomial A K hen K is a torus knot, and implements this method for to examples the unknot, and the 3, 2 torus knot. The idea is to use Equations 9 and 0 to obtain a system of linear equations on the coefficients of the augmentation polynomial. Write A K x, p; Q = c jk x j px; Q k, j,k here c jk is a rational polynomial in Q. Recall that, for torus knots, the degrees of x and p are given by Equation 8. Let px; Q = Q exp K d, Q d x d, and W n := d 0 nk d,n Q d. Then, the coefficient of x n in a series expansion of px; Q k is P n k/q k, here P n k := [ n ] i j ij kwj, i i +2i 2 + +ni n =n j= j! i j 0 and P 0 k =. Substituting this expression into Equation gives a poer series in x: x j A K x, p; Q = c jk j,k Q k P n kx n n 0 n n 0 j=0 = k 0 P n j k In order for px; Q to be a solution of A K x, p; Q = 0, the coefficient of x n for all n in the above expression must vanish. This gives a collection of linear equations in the c jk : n j=0 k 0 Q k c jk x n. P n j k Q k c jk = 0, 2 hich can be solved to determine the c jk up to an overall rescaling of the augmentation polynomial. Note that such rescalings do not affect the solutions px; Q, and hence do not affect the Gromov Witten invariants. The folloing to examples implement this procedure for the unknot in framing 0 and the 3, 2 torus knot in framing 6. For both knots, this method recovers the expected augmentation polynomial. Hoever, for the 3, 2 knot, due to computational complexity, some simplifying assumptions about the values of the c jk are made.
Symmetry 207, 9, 232 of The Unknot For the unknot, deg x =, deg p =, so there are four coefficients to solve for: c 00, c 0, c 0, and c. Here, the W n have a simple expression: W n = n Qn. The first four linear equations from Equation 2 are: c 00 + Q c 0 = 0, n = 0, Q Qc 0 + c 0 + Q c = 0, n =, Q Qc 0 + Q Qc = 0, n = 2, 3. The n = 2 and n = 3 equations both simplify to the same expression. With c 00 as the free variable, these equations become c 0 = Qc 00, c 0 = Qc 00, c = Qc 00. Normalizing to c 00 = yields the expected augmentation polynomial of the unknot in framing 0: 4.2. The 3, 2 Torus Knot A K x, p; Q = Qx Qp + Qxp. The augmentation polynomial of the 3, 2 torus knot is A K x, p; Q = Qp + Q 5 p 3 Q 5 p 4 + 2Q 5 p 5 2Q 6 p 5 Q 6 p 6 + Q 7 p 7 x + Q 0 p 0 Q 0 p 9 x 2. For the 3, 2 torus knot, deg p = 0 and deg x = 2. Thus, c jk = 0 for all j > 2 and k > 0. Note that, in general, one ould need to consider at least deg p + deg x + equations to determine c jk. Due to the increasing complexity of the equations involved, in this example, the folloing simplifying assumptions These assumptions are made to simplify the computation presented here and in principle are not needed. ill be made: c 0k = 0 for k >, c 0 = c = c 2 = 0, c 8 = c 9 = c,0 = 0, and c 2k = 0 for k < 9. Thus, the remaining nine unknon coefficients are c 00, c 0, c 3, c 4, c 5, c 6, c 7, c 29, and c 2,0. The first three equations from Equation 2 are: c 00 + Q c 0 = 0, 2Q 3 + Q c 0 + Q 3 c 3 + Q 4 c 4 + Q 5 c 5 + Q 6 c 6 + Q 7 c 7 = 0, 23Q Q 23Q 2 + 3Q 3 c 0 + 3Q 9Q 2 + 6Q 3 c 3 + 4Q 2 2Q 3 + 8Q 4 c 4 + 5Q 3 5Q 4 + 0Q 5 c 5 + 6Q 4 8Q 5 + 2Q 6 c 6 + 7Q 5 2Q 6 + 4Q 7 c 7 +Q 9 c 29 + Q 0 c 2,0 = 0.
Symmetry 207, 9, of 5 For brevity, the remaining equations are omitted. Solving for the c ij ith c 00 as the free variable, one finds c 0 = Qc 00, c 3 = Q 5 c 00, c 4 = Q 5 c 00, c 5 = 2Q 5 2Q 6 c 00, c 6 = Q 6 c 00, c 7 = Q 7 c 00, c 29 = Q 0 c 00, c 2,0 = Q 0 c 00. By normalizing to c 00 =, the expected coefficients of the augmentation polynomial, are obtained. 5. Conclusions c 0 = Q, c 3 = Q 5, c 4 = Q 5, c 5 = 2Q 5 2Q 6, c 6 = Q 6, c 7 = Q 7, c 29 = Q 0, c 2,0 = Q 0, Because of the difficulties involved in the computation of open Gromov-Witten invariants, a comparison of the technique described here against direct calculation is only currently possible in the torus knot case. A comparison for the non-toric case ill require ne techniques in enumerative geometry to verify. Hoever, in all cases considered here, the computed open invariants are shon to satisfy a strong integrality condition expected of Gromov-Witten invariants. This can be seen as evidence for Aganagic and Vafa s conjecture Conjecture. Moreover, in the torus knot case, the corresponding open Gromov-Witten invariants have been computed explicitly in Lemma, so a direct comparison is possible and here agreement is seen, both by comparing the Gromov-Witten invariants against series terms obtained from the augmentation polynomial, and by using the Gromov-Witten invariants to produce the augmentation polynomial. In the latter case, this provides a generic algorithm for computing the augmentation polynomial of any r, s torus knot. Acknoledgments: This ork as self-funded by the author. Conflicts of Interest: The author declares no conflict of interest. The founding sponsors had no role in the design of the study; in the collection, analyses, or interpretation of data; in the riting of the manuscript, and in the decision to publish the results. Appendix A. Proof of Lemma This appendix provides a proof of Lemma from Section 4. The statement of the Lemma is: Lemma A. Suppose r, s are coprime, r > s > 0, and s d > 0. Let K be the r, s torus knot, and X, L K, and K d, as above. Then, K d, = d+ d r k s k d! d k= r + s k s k= s here r, s are coprime, r > s > 0 and s d 0. For d > s, K d, = 0. r + s k, s k Proof. The idea of the proof is to incorporate the contribution from the open disk into the generating function for the closed Gromov-Witten invariants on X = O P,. The authors of [0] computed the contribution of the open disk Gromov-Witten invariants associated ith the r, s knot for inding- that is, the case d = 0, =. The calculation in [0] readily generalizes to arbitrary inding as K 0, = s k= s r + s k, s k
Symmetry 207, 9, of 5 so hat remains is to compute the contribution from the closed part i.e., non-disk components of the Gromov-Witten invariant. The computation from the closed part can be obtained from the calculation of the corresponding closed Gromov-Witten invariant [25]. One ay to obtain a generating function for the closed terms is from Givental s J function. Closed Gromov Witten invariants appear as terms in Givental s J function [26], and the map on quantum cohomology J X : H X; Q H X; Q z is given by J X γ = z + γ + n=0 d H 2 X;Z Q d n! γ n T α, T α, z ψ 0,d here T α is a basis for the cohomology of X, T α is the dual basis ith respect to the Poincaré pairing, and γ n, T α = z ψ 0,d z k+ γ n, τ k T α 0,d is a poer series of gravitational descendant closed Gromov-Witten invariants. As described in [27,28], a generating function for one-boundary-component, genus-zero open Gromov-Witten invariants can be obtained from the composition of Givental s J-function ith a disk term: K d, Q d = X,L J X φ p z=/, d=0 and J X can be obtained from J P by a tisting procedure. From [29], J P = e t 0+t 2 H/z d=0 + H 2 + H d + H 2 Qd, here H is the hyperplane section on P and t 0, t 2 are coordinates for the {, p} basis for H P. Gromov Witten invariants on X are related to Gromov-Witten invariants on P by [M 0,0 X;d] = vir [M 0,0P ;d] c vir 2d 2 F d, A here F d is the obstruction sheaf hose fiber at each point Σ, f is H Σ, f O P, see [5]. The right-hand side of Equation A is sometimes referred to as a Gromov-Witten invariant tisted by F d. In [30], the authors have orked out a general procedure for obtaining the tisted J-function JM t of a target space M, defined by here T α is a basis for H M, and γ,..., γ n, JM t γ, z := z + γ + Q d n times {}}{ γ, γ,..., γ, n! n 0 d t T α T α, z ψ 0,d t := z ψ z k 0,d k 0 [M 0,n+ M;d] c F d vir evi γ i ψi k i is a poer series of tisted descendant Gromov-Witten invariants. When c F d is trivial, this reduces to the usual untisted Gromov-Witten invariants. The next steps are to apply the tisted formula of [30] for X = O P,, and then localize the resulting expression.
Symmetry 207, 9, of 5 In a forthcoming paper [3], the author has carefully orked out an expression for the localized form of the tisted J-function associated ith the resolved conifold in terms of Gauss s hypergeometric function 2 F a, b; c; z. Recall that this is the hypergeometric function defined by here 2F a, b, ; c; z = q n = a n b n z n n=0 c n n!, {, n = 0, According to [3], the localized J-function of X is n q + k, n > 0. J X t 0, t 2, z = ze t 0+t 2 λ ξ/z 2 F λ x z, λ y z ; + λ ξ z ; et 2, here in the { X, p} basis for the S -equivariant cohomology H S X, t = t 0 X + t 2 p, and λ ξ, λ x, and λ y are the eights of the S action on X. In this case, λ x = s, λ y = r, and λ ξ = r s. Note that e t 2 = Q. Then, J X = e t 0 Q r+s z d=0 s z d r+s z r z After sending t 0 0, the Q r+s factor can be discarded because its only effect is to shift the poers of Q. Specializing to z =, X,L J X becomes X,L J X φp z= Q = D X,L d d k s k r d! d=0 d k + r s = s k= r + s k [ s s k d=0 d d Q d d!. ] s k r k d! d Q d. k= r + s k d d The coefficient of Q d in this expression is K d,.
