2 Introduction Since the arrival of LED as an industrial lighting solution; and above all in public lighting (road, outdoor or power lighting, or any other term signifying the same), a multitude of terms with sometimes narrow or complicated interpretations have been incorporated into technical literature. 3 EFFECTIVENESS, EFFICIENCY, PERFORMANCE Effectiveness (from the Latin efficientĭa: action, strength, production ) is the ability to have someone or something available to achieve an objective using minimum possible resources. Luminous efficiency of a lamp: is the relationship between the luminous flux emitted by the lamp and the power it consumes. It is expressed in lm/w (lumen/watt). 14 Most common errors: Putting the diode efficiency directly into the lamp data. Indicating the luminous flux value by directly multiplying the power by the diode efficiency. (140 lm/w x 50W= 7,000 lm) Not including losses of secondary optics or glass. (7-8%) Not including driver losses. (8%) Indicating the data obtained at colour temperatures of 5000K or 6000K: more flux, but more photo-biological risk (10% more flux every 1000K) Indicating the data of tests carried out with more efficient LEDs than those that will be used in reality Asterisks, small print at the footer...
