On certain arithmetic functions involving exonential divisors arxiv:math/ v2 [math.nt] 10 Oct 2009 László Tóth Pécs, Hungary Annales Univ. Sci. Budaest., Sect. Com., , Abstract The integer d is called an exonential divisor of n = r i=1 ai i > 1 if d = r i=1 ci i, wherec i a i forevery1 i r. The integersn= r i=1 ai i,m = r i=1 bi i > 1havingthe same rime factors are called exonentially corime if a i,b i = 1 for every 1 i r. In this aer we investigate asymtotic roerties of certain arithmetic functions involving exonential divisors and exonentially corime integers. 1. Introduction Let n > 1 be an integer of canonical form n = r i=1 ai i. The integer d is called an exonential divisor of n if d = r i=1 ci i, where c i a i for every 1 i r, notation: d e n. By convention 1 e 1. This notion was introduced by M. V. Subbarao [9]. Note that 1 is not an exonential divisor of n > 1, the smallest exonential divisor of n > 1 is its squarefree kernel κn = r i=1 i. Let τ e n = d 1 and en σe n = d end denote the number and the sum of exonential divisors of n, resectively. The integer n = r i=1 ai i is called exonentially squarefree if all the exonents a i 1 i r are squarefree. Let q e denote the characteristic function of exonentially squarefree integers. Proerties of these functions were investigated by several authors, see [1], [2], [3], [5], [8], [9], [12]. Two integers n,m > 1 have common exonential divisors iff they have the same rimefactorsandinthiscase,i.e. forn = r i=1 ai i, m = r i=1 bi i, a i,b i 11 i r, the greatest common exonential divisor of n and m is n,m e := r i=1 ai,bi i. Here 1,1 e = 1 by convention and 1,m e does not exist for m > 1. The integers n,m > 1 are called exonentially corime, if they have the same rime factors and a i,b i = 1 for every 1 i r, with the notation of above. In this case n,m e = κn = κm. 1 and 1 are considered to be exonentially corime. 1 and m > 1 are not exonentially corime. For n = r i=1 ai i > 1, a i 1 1 i r, denote by φ e n the number of integers r i=1 ci i such that 1 c i a i and c i,a i = 1 for 1 i r, and let φ e 1 = 1. Thus φ e n counts the number of divisors d of n such that d and n are exonentially corime. It is immediately, that φ e is a rime indeendent multilicative function and for n > 1, r φ e n = φa i, i=1 1
where φ is the Euler-function. Exonentially corime integers and function φ e were introduced by J. Sándor [6]. He showed that lim su n logφ e nloglogn logn = log4 5. We consider the functions σ and P defined as follows. Let σn be the sum of those divisorsd of n such that d and n are exonentially corime. Function σ is multilicative and for every rime ower a, σ a = c. 1 c a c,a=1 Here σ = σ 2 =, σ 3 = + 2, σ 4 = + 3, etc. Furthermore let Pn be given by Pn = j,n e, 1 j n κj=κn reresenting an analogue of Pillai s function Pn = n j=1 j,n. Function P is also multilicative and for every rime ower a, P a = 1 c a c,a = d φa/d, d a here P =, P 2 = + 2, P 3 = 2+ 3, P 4 = , etc. We call an integer n = r i=1 ai i exonentially k-free if all the exonents a i 1 i r are k-free, i.e. are not divisible by the k-th ower of any rime k 2. Let q e k denote the characteristic function of exonentially k-free integers. The aim of this aer is to investigate the functions φ e n, σn, Pn and q e k n. The estimate given for the sum qe k n generalizes the result of J. Wu [12] concerning exonentially squarefree integers. Our main results are formulated in Section 2, their roofs are given in Section 3. Our estimates for σnu and qe k n are consequences of a general result due to V. Sita Ramaiah and D. Suryanarayana [7], the roof of which uses the estimate of A. Walfisz [11] concerning k-free integers and is simler than the roof given by J. Wu [12]. A. Smati and J. Wu [8] deduced someinteresting analoguesofknown results on the divisor function τn in case of τ e n. They remarked that their results can be stated also for certain other rime indeendent multilicative functions f if fn deends only on the squarefull kernel of n. We oint out two such results in case of φ e n. Note that, since φ1 = φ2 = 1, φ e n deends only on the cubfull kernel of n. These results are contained in Section 4. Here some oen roblems are also stated. 2. Main results Regarding the average orders of the functions φ e n, σn and Pn we rove the following results. Theorem 1. φ e n = C 1 x+c 2 x 1/3 +Ox 1/5+ε, 2
for every ε > 0, where C 1,C 2 are constants given by C 1 = φa φa 1 a, a=3 C 2 = ζ1/3 φa φa 1 φa 3+φa 4. a/3 a=5 Theorem 2. Let u > 1/3 be a fixed real number. Then σn u = C 3 x u+1 +Ox u+1/2 δx, where C 3 is given by C 3 = 1 σ a u u σ a 1 u u+1 and A being a ositive constant. Theorem 3. a=2 au+1 δx = ex Alogx 3/5 loglogx 1/5, Pn = C 4 x 2 +Oxlogx 5/3, where the constant C 4 is given by C 4 = 1 P a P a 1 2 2a. a=2 Concerning the maximal order of the function Pn we have Theorem 4. where γ is Euler s constant. where lim su n Pn nloglogn = 6 π 2eγ, Theorem 5. If k 2 is a fixed integer, then q e k n = D kx+ox 1/2k δx, D k = q k a q k a 1 a, a=2 k q k n denoting the characteristic function of k-free integers. In the secial case k = 2 case this formula is due to J. Wu [12], imroving an earlier result of M. V. Subbarao [9]. 3
3. Proofs The roof of Theorem 1 is based on the following lemma. Lemma 1. The Dirichlet series of φ e is absolutely convergent for Re s > 1 and it is of form φ e n n s = ζsζ3svs, where the Dirichlet series Vs = vn n is absolutely convergent for Re s > 1/5. s Proof of Lemma 1. Let µ 3 n = µm or 0, according as n = m 3 or not, where µ is the Möbius function, and let f = µ 3 µ in terms of the Dirichlet convolution. Then we can formally obtain the desired exression by taking v = φ e f. Both f and v are multilicative and easy comutations show that f = f 3 = 1,f 4 = 1,f 2 = f a = 0 for each a 5, and v a = 0 for 1 a 4, v a = φa φa 1 φa 3+φa 4 for a 5. Since v a < 4a for a 5, we obtain that Vs is absolutely convergent for Re s > 1/5. Proof of Theorem 1. Lemma 1 shows that φ e = v τ1,3,, where τ1,3,n = ab 3 =n 1 for which τ1,3,n = ζ3x+ζ1/3x 1/3 +Ox 1/5, cf. [4], Therefore, = ζ3x d x φ e n = d x vd e x/d vd d +ζ1/3x1/3 vd d d x and obtain the desired result by usual estimates. τ1,3,e = vd, +O x 1/5+ε 1/3 d 1/5+ε d x For the roof of Theorem 2 we use the following general result due to V. Sita Ramaiah and D. Suryanarayana [7], Theorem 1. Lemma 2. Let k 2 be a fixed integer, β > k+1 1 be a fixed real number and g be a multilicative arithmetic function such that gn 1 for all n 1. Suose that either i g j 1 1 for 1 j k 1, g k = 0 for all rimes, or ii g j = 1 for 1 j k 1, g k = β for all rimes. Then g µn gn = x +Ox 1/k δx. n Proof of Theorem 2. This is a direct consequence of Lemma 2 of above. Take gn = σn/n u. Here g = 1, g 2 = u, g a au a 1 u < 1 u 1 for every a 3, hence 0 < gn 1 for all n 1. Choosing k = 2, β = u, we obtain the given result by artial summation. 4
Lemma 3. The Dirichlet series of Pn is absolutely convergent for Re s > 2 and it is of form Pn n s = ζs 1ζ2s 1 Ws, ζ3s 2 where the Dirichlet series Ws = wn n is absolutely convergent for Re s > 3/4. s where Proof of Lemma 3. = j=1 Pn n s = φj Ws := 1 djs 1 d=1 a=1 d a = d φa/d as = ζs 1ζ2s 1 Ws, ζ3s 2 s 1 1 2s 1 1 3s 2 1 which is absolutely convergent for Re s > 3/4. j=3 Proof of Theorem 3. By Lemma 3, P = h w, where hn = abc 2 µc, ab 2 c 3 =n φj js 1 1 j=1 φj, js 1 1 andobtainthe desiredresult, exactlylikein roofoftheorem2of[5], usingtheestimate mn 2 x mn = 1 2 ζ3x2 +Oxlogx 2/3 due to Y. - F. S. Pétermann and J. Wu [5], Theorem 1. Theorem 4 is a direct consequence of the following general result of L. Tóth and E. Wirsing [10], Corollary 1. Lemma 4. Let f be a nonnegative real-valued multilicative function. Suose that for all rimes we have ρ := su ν 0 f ν 1 1/ 1 and that for all rimes there is an exonent e = o1 such that f e 1/. Then lim su n fn loglogn = eγ 1 1 ρ. Proof of Theorem 4. Aly Lemma 4 for fn = Pn/n, where f a a a < 1 1/ 1 for every a 1 and f 2 = 1 + 1/, hence we can choose e = 2 for all. Moreover, ρ = 1/ for all and obtain the desired result. q e k Proof of Theorem 5. This follows from Lemma 2 by taking 2 k instead of k, where = qe k 2 =... = q e k 1 = 1, q e 2k k = 0. 2k 4. Further results and roblems 5
The next result is an analogue of the exonential divisor roblem of Titchmarsh, see Theorem 1 of [8]. The roof is the same using that φ e n is a rime indeendent multilicative function deending only on the squarefull cubfull kernel of n and that φ e a = φa a for every a 1. Theorem 6. For every fixed B > 0, φ e 1 = C 5 lix+ox/logx B, x where C 5 = k=3 φk 1 k. Letωn andωn denote, asusual, thenumberofrimefactorsofnandthenumber of rime ower factors of n, resectively. Theorem 7. A maximal order of Ωφ e n is 2logn/5loglogn. This can be obtained by the same arguments as those given in the roof of Theorem 3.i of [8]. Here the uer bound is attained for n k = 1 k 5, where k is the k-th rime. Problem 1. Determine a maximal order of ωφ e n. Since σn n for all n 1 and σ = for all rimes, it is clear that a maximal order of σn is n. Problem 2. Determine a minimal order of σn. J. Sándor[6]consideredinfactthe functionϕ e ndefined asthenumberofintegers 1 < a < n forwhichaand nareexonentiallycorimen > 1andϕ e 1 = 1. Although ϕ e a = φ e a = φa for any rime ower a, functions ϕ e and φ e are not the same. Take for examle n = , then numbers a < n exonentially corime to n are a = 2 3,2 2 3,2 4 3, hence ϕ e = = φ3φ2 = ϕ e 2 3 ϕ e 3 2. Therefore, ϕ e is not multilicative and ϕ e n φ e n for every n 1. Problem 3. What can be said on the order of the function ϕ e n? References [1] J. Fabrykowski and M. V.
