2 Transfer Functions for Systems with Gears Gears provide mechanical advantage to rotational system, e.g. a bicycle with gears. Gears are nonlinear. They exhibit backlash, which occurs from the loose fit between two meshed gears. In this course, we consider only the linearized version of gears.
