POSITIVITY OF DENOMINATOR VECTORS OF CLUSTER ALGEBRAS PEIGEN CAO FANG LI arxiv: v1 [mah.rt] 15 Dec 2017 Absrac. In his aer, we rove ha osiiviy of denominaor vecors holds for any sewsymmeric cluser algebra. 1. inroducion Cluser algebras were inroduced by Fomin and Zelevinsy in [6]. The moivaion was o creae a common framewor for henomena occurring in connecion wih oal osiiviy and canonical bases. A cluser algebra A(S) of ran n is a subalgebra of an ambien field F generaed by cerain combinaorially defined generaors (i.e., cluser variables), which are groued ino overlaing clusers. One of he imoran feaures of cluser algebras is heir Lauren henomenon. Thus he denominaor vecors of cluser variables can be defined following his henomenon in Secion 2. Fomin and Zelevinsy conjecured ha Conjecure 1.1. (Conjecure 7.4 (i) in [7]) Posiiviy of denominaor vecors) For any given a cluser x 0 of a cluser algebra A(S), and any cluser variable x / x 0, he denominaor vecor d 0 (x) of x wih resec o x 0 is in N n. In he seuel, we always wrie denominaor vecors briefly as d-vecors. Posiiviy of d-vecors has been affirmed in he following cases: (i) cluser algebras of ran 2 (Theorem 6.1 of [6]), (ii) cluser algebras arising from surfaces (see [5]), and (iii) cluser algebras of finie ye (see [1, 4]). Caldero and Keller roved a wea version of Conjecure 1.1 in [2], ha is, for a sew-symmeric cluser algebra A(S), if is seed (x 0,y 0,B 0 ) is acyclic, hen he d-vecor d 0 (x) of any cluser variable x / x 0 is in N n. In his aer, we will give a osiive answer o Conjecure 1.1 for sew-symmeric cluser algebras. Theorem 1.2. Posiiviy of d-vecors holds for any sew-symmeric cluser algebra. This aer is organized as follows. In Secion 2, some basic definiions and noaions are inroduced. In Secion 3, he roof of Theorem 1.2 is given. 2. Preliminaries Recall ha (P,, ) is a semifield if (P, ) is an abelian mulilicaive grou endowed wih a binary oeraion of auxiliary addiion which is commuaive, associaive, and disribuive wih resec o he mulilicaion in P. Le Tro(u i : i I) be a free abelian grou generaed by {u i : i I} for a finie se of index I. We define he addiion in Tro(u i : i I) by u ai i i i is a semifield, which is called a roical semifield. Mahemaics Subjec Classificaion(2010): 13F60, 05E40 u bi i = i Keywords: sew-symmeric cluser algebra, denominaor vecor, osiiviy. Dae: version of December 20, u min(ai,bi) i, hen (Tro(u i : i I), )
2 PEIGEN CAO FANG LI The mulilicaive grou of any semifield P is orsion-free for mulilicaion [6], hence is grou ring ZP is a domain. We ae an ambien field F o be he field of raionalfuncions in n indeenden variables wih coefficiens in ZP. An n n ineger marix B = (b ij ) is called sew-symmeric if b ij = b ji for any i,j = 1,,n; and in general, B is called sew-symmerizable if here exiss a osiive ineger diagonal marix S such ha SB is sew-symmeric. For a sew-symmerizable marix B, we can encode he sign aern of marix enries of B by he direced grah Γ(B) wih he verices 1,2,,n and he direced edges (i,j) for b ij > 0. A sew-symmerizable marix marix B is called acyclic if Γ(B) has no oriened cycles. Definiion 2.1. A seed in F is a rile (x,y,b) such ha (i) x = {x 1,,x n }, called a cluser, is a free generaing se of F, where x 1,x n are called cluser variables. (ii) y = {y 1,,y n } is a subse of P, where y 1,,y n are called coefficiens. (iii) B = (b ij ) is a n n sew-symmerizable ineger marix, called an exchange marix. The seed (x,y,b) is called acyclic if B is acyclic. Denoe by [a] + = max{a,0} for any a R. Definiion 2.2. Le (x,y,b) be a seed in F. Define he muaion of he seed (x,y,b) a {1,,n} as a new rile µ (x,y,b) = ( x,ȳ, B) given by x i, if i (1) x i = n y x [b j ] + j + n x [ b j ] + j (1 y )x, if i =. y 1, i = (2) ȳ i = y i y [b i] + (1 y ) b i, oherwise. b ij, i = or j = ; (3) bij =. b ij +b i [ b j ] + +[b i ] + b j, oherwise. I can be seen ha µ (x,y,b) is also a seed and µ (µ (x,y,b)) = (x,y,b). Definiion 2.3. A cluser aern S in F is an assignmen of a seed (x,y,b ) o every verex of he n-regular ree T n, such ha for any edge, (x,y,b ) = µ (x,y,b ). We always denoe by x = {x 1;,,x n; }, y = {y 1;,,y n; }, B = (b ij ). Definiion 2.4. Le S be a cluser aern, he cluser algebra A(S) associaed wih he given cluser aern S is he ZP-subalgebra of he field F generaed by all cluser variables of S. IfS iscluser aernwih coefficiensin Tro(y 1,,y m ), he corresondingcluseralgebra A(S) is said o be a cluser algebra of geomeric ye. IfS iscluseraernwihcoefficiensintro(y 1,,y n )andhereexissaseed(x 0,y 0,B 0 ) such ha y i;0 = y i for i = 1,,n, hen he corresonding cluser algebra A(S) is called a cluser algebra wih rincial coefficiens a 0. Theorem 2.5. Le A(S) be a sew-symmerizable cluser algebra, and (x 0,y 0,B 0 ) be a seed of A(S). Then (i).(theorem 3.1 in [6], Lauren henomenon) any cluser variable x i; of A(S) is a sum of Lauren monomials in x 0 wih coefficiens in ZP.
POSITIVITY OF DENOMINATOR VECTORS OF CLUSTER ALGEBRAS 3 (ii). ([9], osiive Lauren henomenon) any cluser variable x i; of A(S) is a sum of Lauren monomials in x 0 wih coefficiens in NP. Denoe by x a 0 := n i=1 x ai i; 0 for a Z n. Le A(S) be a sew-symmerizable cluser algebra, and (x 0,y 0,B 0 ) be a seed of A(S), by Lauren henomenon, any cluser variable x of A(S) has he form of x = c v x v 0, where V is a subse of Z n, 0 c v ZP. Le d j be he minimal exonen of x j;0 aearing in he exansion x = c v x v 0. Then x has he form of (4) x = f(x 1; 0,,x n,0 ) x d1 1; 0 x dn n; 0, where f ZP[x 1;0,,x n;0 ] wih x j;0 f for j = 1,,n. The vecor d 0 (x) = (d 1,,d n ) is called he denominaor vecor (briefly, d-vecor) of he cluser variable x wih resec o x 0. Proosiion 2.6. ((7.7) in [7]) Denoe he sandard basis vecors in Z n by e 1,,e n. The vecors d 0 (x l; ) are uniuely deermined by he iniial condiions ogeher wih he recurrence relaions for. d 0 (x l;0 ) = e l d 0 (x l; ) if l ; ( ) d 0 (x l; ) = d 0 (x ; )+max b b i >0 i (x d0 i; ), b b i <0 i (x d0 i; ) if l = From he above roosiion, we now ha he noion of d-vecors is indeenden of he choice of coefficien sysem. So when sudying he d-vecor d 0 (x) of a cluser variable x, we can focus on he cluser algebras of geomeric ye. Proosiion 2.7. (Proosiion 2.5 in [11]) Le A(S) be a cluser algebra, x be a cluser variable, and (x,y,b ), (x,y,b ) be wo seeds of A(S) wih (x,y,b ) = µ (x,y,b ). Suose ha d (x) = (d 1,,d n ), d (x) = (d 1,,d n ) are he d-vecors of x wih resecive o x and x resecively, hen d i = d i for i. Proof. For he convenience of he readers, we give he sech of he roof here. By (x,y,b ) = µ (x,y,b ), we now ha x ; x ; = y ; i 1 y ; i; + y ; i 1 y ; i;. Thus (5) (6) b i >0 x b b i <0 x b x ; = x 1 ; ( y ; x b i i; 1 y + y ; x b i i; ). ; 1 y ; b i >0 b i <0 By Lauren henomenon, he exansion of x wih resec o x has he following form x = f(x 1;,,x n, ), x d1 1; xdn n; where f ZP[x 1;,,x n; ] wih x j; f for j = 1,,n. Then relacing he x ; in he euaion (6) by he one in he euaion (5), we ge he exansion of x wih resec o x. And i can be seen ha d i = d i for i.
4 PEIGEN CAO FANG LI 3. The roof of Theorem 1.2 Le A(S) be a cluser algebra and z be a cluser variable of A(S). Denoe by I(z) he se of clusers x 0 of A(S) such ha z is a cluser variable in x 0. For wo verices 1, 2 of T n, le l( 1, 2 ) be he disance beween 1 and 2 in he n-regular ree T n. For a cluser x of A(S), define he disance beween z and x as dis(z,x ) := min{l( 0,) 0 I(z)}. The following heorem is from [10]: Theorem 3.1. (Theorem 4.1, Proosiion 5.1 and 5.5 in [10]) Le A(S) be a sew-symmeric cluser algebra of geomeric ye wih a cluser x. Le z be a cluser variable of A(S), and x 0 be a cluser conaining z such ha dis(z,x ) = l( 0,). Le σ be he uniue seuence in T n relaing he seeds a 0 and in which, denoe he las wo direcions (clearly, ): σ : = m 1 m 1 = u = m m =. e e For e,, le u v and w be he edges of T n in he same direcion e. Then, (i) z can be wrien as z = P + Q, wih P L 1 := NP[x ;u,x ±1 ; ;(x±1 i; ) i,], and Q L 2 := NP[x ;,x ±1 ;;(x ±1 i; ) i,]. Moreover, P and Q are uniue u o L 1 L 2. (ii) There exiss a Lauren monomial F aearing in he exansion z = P + Q such ha he variable x e;, has nonnegaive exonen in F. (iii) There exis P 1; L 3,P 2; L 4,Q 1; L 5,Q 2; L 6 such ha P 1; +P 2; = P and Q 1; + Q 2; = Q, where L 3 := NP[x ;u,x e;v ;(x ±1 i; ) i,], L 4 := NP[x ;u,x e;u ;(x ±1 i; ) i,], L 5 := NP[x ;,x e; ;(x ±1 i; ) i,], L 6 := NP[x ;,x e;w ;(x ±1 i; ) i,]. Thus z has he form of z = P 1; + P 2; + Q 1; + Q 2;, where P 1;,P 2;,Q 1;,Q 2; are uniue u o L 3 L 4 L 5 L 6. Lemma 3.2. Kee he noaions in Theorem 3.1. There exiss a Lauren monomial in Lauren exansion of z wih resec x in which x e; aears wih nonnegaive exonen for e,. Proof. ByTheorem3.1(ii), hereexissalaurenmonomialf aearinginheexansionz = P +Q such ha he variable x e; has non-negaive exonen in F. We now x ;u = y ; n x [b j ]+ j; + n x [ b j ]+ j; (1 y ; )x ;. Subsiuing he above eualiy ino z = P +Q, hen we obain he Lauren exansion of z wih resec o x. I is easy o see ha in his Lauren exansion here exiss a Lauren monomial such ha x e; aear in his Lauren monomial wih nonnegaive exonen. Now we give he roof of Theorem 1.2. Proof. By Proosiion 2.6, we now he noion of d-vecors is indeenden of he choice of coefficien sysem. Hence, we can assume ha A(S) is a sew-symmeric cluser algebra of geomeric ye. Le x be a cluser of A(S), z be a cluser variable wih z / x, hen dis(z,x ) =: m+1 > 0. We will show he d-vecor d (z) of z wih resec o x is in N n. Le x 0 I(z) such ha l( 0, ) = dis(z,x ) = m+1 > 0. Since T n is a ree, here is an uniue seuence σ lining 0 and in T n : = m 1 m 1 = u = m m = m+1( ) m+1 =.
POSITIVITY OF DENOMINATOR VECTORS OF CLUSTER ALGEBRAS 5 By he choice of x 0, we now dis(z,x j ) = l( 0, j ) = j for j = 1,2,,m+1. We rove d (z) N n by inducion on dis(z,x ) = m+1 > 0. Clearly, d (z) N n if dis(z,x ) = 1,2. Inducive Assumion: Assumehad (z) N n forany suchha1 dis(z,x ) < dis(z,x ). Because 1 dis(z,x ) < dis(z,x ), we now d (z) N n, by inducive assumion. By Proosiion 2.7 and x = µ m+1 (x ), we ge ha he i-h comonen of d (z) and he i-h comonen of d (z) are eual for i m+1. Thus, in order o show d (z) N n, we only need o show ha he m+1 -h comonen of d (z) is nonnegaive. We rove his in wo cases. Case (I): m+1 and Case (II): m+1 =. The roof in Case (I): By osiive Lauren henomenon, he exansion of z wih resec o x has he form of z = c v x v, where V is a subse of Zn, and 0 c v NP. If m+1 -h comonen of d (z) is negaive (here m+1,), hen he exonen of x m+1; in each xv mus be osiive, v V. We now x m+1; = y m+1; Subsiuing he above euaion ino z = n x [b j ] + m+1 j; + n (1 y m+1; )x m+1; x [ b j ] + m+1 j; c v x v, we can obain he Lauren exansion of z wih resec o x. And he exonen of x m+1; in each Lauren monomial aearing in he obained Lauren exansion is negaive. This conradics Lemma 3.2. Thus if m+1,, hen m+1 -h comonen of d (z) is nonnegaive and we have d (z) is in N n. The rearaion for he roof in Case (II): Consider he maximal ran wo muaion subseuence in direcions, a he end of σ. This seuence connecs o a verex r. Thus we have he following wo cases (7) or (8) 0 0 r( ) r 1 r( ) r 1 r r r+1 r+1 r+2 r+2 m 1 m 1. m m+1 =. m m+1 =. Le r a in he firs case and le r b in he second case. I is easy o see ha r in he firs case and r m 3 in he second case. Lemma3.3. (i) In he firscase r a, he -hcomonens of d-vecors of x ;a,x ;a,x ;r,x ;r+1, x ;r+1,x ;r+2 wih resec o x are nonnegaive. (ii) In he second case r b, he -h comonens of d-vecors of x ;b,x ;b,x ;r,x ;r+1, x ;r+1,x ;r+2 wih resec o x are nonnegaive. Proof. (i) If he -h comonens of d-vecor d (x) of some cluser variable x {x ;a,x ;a,x ;r, x ;r+1,x ;r+1,x ;r+2 } wih resec o x is negaive. Say x x E,E {a,r,r+1,r+2}. Since he clusers x a,x r,x r+1, x r+2 can be obained from he cluser x by seuences of muaions using only wo direcions and. Then by Theorem 6.1 in [6], we now x = x ;. Hence, x E and x have a leas n 1 common cluser variables. By Theorem 5 of [8] or Theorem 4.23 (c) of [3], we now x = x E or x = µ (x E ) or x = µ (x E ). Thus m+1 = dis(z,x ) max{dis(z,x E ),dis(z,µ (x E ),dis(z,µ (x E )}. On he oher hand, by he seuence (7) and r a, we now max{dis(z,x E ),dis(z,µ (x E ),dis(z,µ (x E )} r+3 m+1.
6 PEIGEN CAO FANG LI Thus we obain max{dis(z,x E ),dis(z,µ (x E ),dis(z,µ (x E )} = m + 1, and his will resul in ha r = m 2 and E = m, i.e. x E = x m. Bu his conradics ha x ; = x x E = x m. So he -h comonens of d-vecors of x ;a,x ;a,x ;r,x ;r+1, x ;r+1,x ;r+2 wih resec o x are nonnegaive. (ii) By he same argumen wih (i), we have (9) m+1 = dis(z,x ) max{dis(z,x E ),dis(z,µ (x E ),dis(z,µ (x E )}, and, on he oher hand, max{dis(z,x E ),dis(z,µ (x E ),dis(z,µ (x E )} r+3 m, whichconradicso(9). So,he-hcomonensofd-vecorsofx ;b,x ;b,x ;r,x ;r+1,x ;r+1,x ;r+2 wih resec o x are nonnegaive. Reurn o he roof of Theorem 1.2. The roof in case (II): Alying Theorem 3.1 (iii) a he verex r+1 wih resec o he direcions (in case of (7)) and (in case of (8)), we ge ha eiher z NP[x ;a,x ;a,x ;r,x ;r+1,x ;r+1,x ;r+2 ;(x ±1 i; r+1 ) i, ], or z NP[x ;b,x ;b,x ;r,x ;r+1,x ;r+1,x ;r+2 ;(x ±1 i; r+1 ) i, ]. Then by Lemma 3.3, he -h comonen of d (z) is nonnegaive and so, d (z) is in N n. Acnowledgemens: This rojec is suored by he Naional Naural Science Foundaion of China (No and No ). References [1] P.
