Number Form: 123 Expanded Form: Word Form: one hundred twenty-three Inverse Operations Operation Inverse Follow the Order of Operations PLEASE EXCUSE MY DEAR AUNT SALLY Please = PARENTHESES Excuse = EXPONENTS My Dear = MULTIPLICATION and/or DIVISION Aunt Sally = ADDITION and/or SUBTRACTION The equation: ( 2 9 ) + ( 16 4 ) = Please = Excuse = My Dear = Aunt Sally = 335
millions Hundred thousands Ten thousands Thousands Hundreds Tens Ones Tenths Hundredths Thousandths Ten thousandths Prime Numbers are shaded! A prime number is a number that can only be divided by 1 and itself. Composite Numbers are not shaded (except for 1 which is neither prime nor composite. A composite number is a whole number with three or more factors. Place Value Chart 2, 6 8 7,
Coordinate Plane and Quadrants: When trying to remember the order of the quadrants, imagine drawing a big C throughout the plane. When you start at the top of the C, that s Quadrant I, the rest of the quadrants are numbered accordingly. Quadrants are written with Roman numerals! To plot or identify your coordinate pair: { left (-) or right (+), up (+) or down (-) } ( x-axis, y-axis) Term Definition x-axis The horizontal number line y-axis origin The vertical number line The point of intersection of the x and y- axes on a coordinate plane.
Multiplication Table Exponential Form Standard Form Expanded Form x 2 x 2
Measurement Equivalencies Capacity and Volume: 1 gallon = 4 quarts 1 gallon = 128 fluid ounces 1 quart = 2 pints 1 pint = 2 cups 1 cup = 8 fluid ounces 1 liter = 1000 milliliters Mass and Weight: 1 kilogram = 1000 grams 1 gram = 1000 milligrams 1 ton = 2000 pounds 1 pound = 16 ounces Length: 1 kilometer = 1000 meters 1 meter = 100 centimeters 1 centimeter = 10 millimeters 1 mile = 1760 yards 1 mile = 5280 feet 1 yard = 3 feet 1 foot = 12 inches
Properties Multiplication Properties Associative Property of Example: (16 26) 55 = 16 (26 55) Identity Property of 1 67 = 67 OR x(1) = x Commutative Property of Distributive Property of 17 6 = ( ) = (36(14) + (36)(85) Zero Property of 36 0 = 0 Addition Properties Associative Property of + Identity Property of + Commutative Property of + Distributive Property of + Example: (5 + 7) + 4 = 5 + (7 + 4) = 41 OR x + 0 = x = ( ) = (36)(14) + (36)(85)
L Method or Ladder Method for Finding GFC, LCM, and to Simplify Fractions Begin by drawing an uppercase L. Place the two numbers you are using in the L. Pull out the primes that go into each (divide) and place them outside of the L. Sometimes only 1 can go into both values. Your remainder goes underneath. Keep going until you cannot divide any further. The GCF is on the left multiply this left side to find the GCF of your pair Multiply everything on the outside of the L to find your greatest common factor. 2 3 If the first number in your pair was the numerator and the second the denominator, here s your simplified fraction! Just add a fraction bar!
Symbol Meaning < Less than > Greater than = Equal to Greater than or equal to Less than or equal to Inequalities Greater than four Less than four Greater than or equal to four Less than or equal to four General Rules for Multiplying Fractions: 1) Multiply the fractions numerators to find the numerator of the product. 2) Multiply the fractions denominators to find the denominator of the product. 3) If necessary, rewrite the product in simplest form. General Rules for Dividing Fractions: **Use the COPY, SWITCH, FLIP Method** 1) Recopy the first fraction. 2) Switch your sign from division to multiplication. 3) Flip your second fraction upside down to get the reciprocal. 4) Follow the steps to multiply fractions.
Algebraic Expressions and Equations Key Concept Positive Numbers Negative Numbers Zero Opposites Explanation Numbers to the right of zero. Numbers to the left of zero. Neither positive nor negative Two numbers are opposite that are the same distance from 0, but on opposite ends Integers Absolute Value Rational Numbers The set of positive whole numbers, their opposites, and 0. The distance a number is from zero on a number line. This value is ALWAYS positive. All numbers including decimals and fractions Variable a letter that represents an unknown value 3x + 4y + 12 (x and y are both variables) Constant a term that contains only numbers 3x + 4y + 12 (12 is the constant) Coefficient the number part of a term with variables 3x + 4y + 12 (3 and 4 are each coefficients) Term a number, variable, or the product of a number and one or more variables
A number can be divided by Divisibility Rules If 2 Its ones digit is an even number 3 The sum of its digits is divisible by 3 4 The number formed by its last two digits is divisible by 4 5 Its ones digit is a 0 or 5 6 It is divisible by 2 and by 3 9 The sum of its digits is divisible by 9 10 Its ones digit is 0 Distance Traveled: Distance = Rate Time Volume of a Rectangular Prism: V = l w h Formulas Area of a Triangle Area = ½ bh Surface Area of Rectangular Prism SA= 2(lw) + 2(hw) + 2(lh) Area of a Trapezoid A = ½h(b 1 + b 2 )
