Special Events - G e n e r a l M e e t i n g a t t h e S a n d w i c h G l a s s M u s e u m Tuesday, September 18 th at 6:30PM Come and hear Jon Shaw share his broad knowledge of the history of Sandwich. Born in Sandwich, Jon is a former director of Bok Tower Gardens in Lake Wales, Florida. Currently, he is on the Nye House board of trustees, cochairman of the Sandwich Historic Committee and a consultant to NHESP (National Heritage Endangered Species Program) concerning endangered
2 plants. If you are curious about the restoration of the Town Hall, Jon is also on the Community Preservation Committee and can answer your questions. - M e m b e r s h i p D r i v e I t s t i m e t o r e n e w y o u r m e m b e r s h i p! Please download the membership application form from the club website under the membership category and include it with your check. Those of you who do not have use of the internet will be mailed a membership application form. Even if you are renewing for the fifth or sixth time, please be sure to include the membership application form with your check because our contact information records, including current address, will be updated from it. (There are a number of members whose addresses are still adelphia.net and we suggest that you please be sure to change over to comcast.net soon and ideally let us know your new comcast.net address on the membership application form so we won t lose the ability to contact you via when the Adelphia server goes down permanently) Also, this is a once a year opportunity to receive written feedback from you about your interests/ideas concerning club activities. Dues are $15 for individuals and $20 for a couple. The dues and membership application form should be mailed to: Althea Brabazon, 7 Aviators Lane, Sandwich, MA or you may bring them to the September 18 th General Meeting. Dues are due by September 30 th so you ll be on our list for club activities. - B i k e R i d e o n t h e C a p e C o d C a n a l On Tues, Sept 11 th we will hold a bike ride which will end with a picnic lunch on Scusset beach. The total length of the ride will be about 14 miles. Meet at 10:00AM at the Bobby Byrnes parking lot in the Stop & Shop Plaza on Route 6A in Sandwich. (Rain date will be Thurs, Sept 13 th ) Please call Phyllis White at (508) if you plan to attend. - W a l k i n g T o u r o f H i s t o r i c C o n c o r d a n d C o n c o r d A u t h o r s H o m e s On Thurs, September 20 th, join us for a walking tour of this historic town and homes of authors such as Emerson, Thoreau and Alcott. We will meet at the Bobby Byrnes parking lot in the Stop & Shop Plaza on Route 6A in Sandwich at 9:30AM for carpooling to Concord. Please call Judy Larocque at (508) if you plan to attend this trip.
3 - W i n e & C h e e s e P a r t y On Sat, Sept 29 th, the first wine & cheese party of the new club year will be held from 7-10PM. The hosts for the party are Tricia and Bill Daley. Please call either Tricia or Bill by Sept 22 nd to let them know if you will attend and whether you will bring either an hors d oeuvre or a dessert. A $7.50 per person charge will cover the cost of beverages and paper goods. Regularly Scheduled Activities 6 A & J o n e s R o a d N e w c o m e r s G a r d e n HELP: Due to a hot, dry summer our Jones Road garden is struggling. We need some more volunteers for weeding and, most importantly watering. We could also use some gifts from your gardens, too. September is a good time to transplant. We need plants that are drought tolerant once established. Suggestions would be grasses, sedum(such as Autumn Joy), asters, black-eyed Susans, Russian sage and agastache. Please call Barbara Morgan at (508) Mah Jongg Will continue on Tuesdays at 1:00PM at the Sandwich Human Services Building on Quaker Meetinghouse Road. You do not need to be a member to participate or observe the game. New beginners classes begin at the Sandwich Community School from Sept 10 to Oct 22 at 6:30-8:30PM. It s a series of 6 classes for $ $5.00 for seniors. For more info call Jennie Zantuhos at (508) Scrapbooking Will resume the first week in Oct. If you want to participate, call Jennie Zantuhos at (508) to let her know what day is good for you. Meetings are once a month from 10 to noon.

Some of us are still recovering from that workout! Looking Ahead -On October 11 th, we are planning a trip to the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston. If enough members are interested in going on this trip we may be able to arrange a guided tour of the museum for a nominal fee.
