Let CT n = {α T n : (for all x,y [n]) xα yα x y }, then CT n is a subsemigrou of T n. In this aer, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for an element to be regular and characterize all the Green s equivalences for the semigrou CT n. We further show that the semigrou CT n is left abundant semigrou Mathematics Subject Classification. 20M20. 1 Introduction Let [n] = {1,2,...,n} be a finite chain, a ma α which has domain and range both subset of [n] is said to be a transformation. A transformation α whose domain is a subset of [n] (i. e., Dom α [n]) is said to be artial. The collection of all artial transformations of [n] is known as semigrou of artial transformations, usually denoted by P n. A artial transformations whose domain is the whole [n] (i. e., Dom α = [n]) is said to full(or total). The collection of all full (or total) transformations of [n] is known as full transformation semigrou. A ma α T n is said to be order reserving (res., order reversing) if (for all x,y [n]) x y imlies xα yα (res., xα yα); is order decreasing if (for all x [n]) xα x; an isometry (i. e., distance reserving) if (for all x,y [n]) xα yα = x y ; a contraction if (for all x,y [n]) xα yα x y. Let CT n = {α T n : (for all x,y [n]) xα yα x y } and OCT n = {α CT n : (for allx,y [n])x y imliesxα yα}. ThenCT n andoct n aresubsemigrousof T n and OT n (where OT n denotes the semigrou of order reserving full transformations of [n]), resectively. They are known as semigrous of full contractions and order reserving artial contractions of[n] resectively. The study of these semigrous was initiated in 2013 by Umar and Alkharousi [15] suorted by a grant from The Research Council of Oman (TRC). 2 subsemigrous were given, as such we maintain the same notations in this aer. For standard concets in semigrou theory, we refer the reader to Howie [14] and Higgins [12]. Let S be a semigrou and a,b S. If S 1 a = S 1 b (i. e., a and b generate the same rincial left ideal) then we say that a and b are related by L and we write (a,b) L or alb, if as 1 = bs 1 (i. e., a and b generate the same rincial right ideal) then we say a and b are related by R and we write (a,b) R or arb and if S 1 as 1 = S 1 bs 1 (i. e., a and b generate the same rincial two sided ideal) then we say a and b are related by J and we write (a,b) J or ajb. Each of the relations L, R and J is an equivalence on S. The relations H = L R and D = L R are all equivalences on S. These five equivalences known as Green s relations, were first introduced by J. A. Green in 1951 [8]. The Green s relations for the semigrou CP n and some of its subsemigrous have been studied by [2, 17, 19]. In 2017, Garba et al. [7] characterized Green s and starred Green s relations for the semigrou CT n. However, their characterization of Green s L relation is incomlete, which also affects the D relation characterization. In 2018, Ali et al. characterizedgreen s relations for the more general semigrou CP n, and results concerning Green s relations and regularity of elements in some of its subsemigrous can be deduced from the results obtained in that aer. In this aer we obtain comlete characterizations of Green s relations for the semigrou of full contractions CT n. We deduce corresonding results for regularity of elements in the semigrou CT n and its subsemigrous of order reserving full contractions and of order reserving or order reversing full contractions, OCT n and ORCT n, resectively, from Theorem (1.1). We further show that the semigrou CT n is left abundant but not right abundant (for n 4) and exlore some orthodox subsemigrous of CT n and its Rees factor semigrous. This aer is therefore a natural analogue of Umar and Zubairu [17]. We now introduce some basic definitions to achieve our objective. Let α be element of CP n. Let Dom α, Im α and h (α) denote, the domain of α, image of α and Im α, resectively. For α,β CT n, the comosition of α and β is defined as x(α β) = ((x)α)β for any x in [n]. Without ambiguity, we shall be using the notation αβ to denote α β. Let A1 A α = 2... A T x 1 x 2... x n (1 n), (1) where, x i α 1 = A i (1 i ) are equivalence classes under the relation kerα = {(x,y) n n : xα = yα}. The collection of all the equivalence classes of the relation kerα, is the artition of the domain of α, and is denoted by Ker α, i. e., Ker α = {A 1,A 2,...A } and Dom α = A 1 A 2...A where ( n). A subset T α of [n] is said to be a transversal of the artition Ker α if T α =, and A i T α = 1 (1 i ). A transversal T α is said to be relatively convex if for all x,y T α with x y and if x z y (z Dom α), then z T α. Notice that every convex transversal is necessarily relatively convex but not vice-versa. A transversal T α is said to be admissible if and only if the ma A i t i (t i T α, i {1,2,...,}) is a contraction. Notice that every (relatively) convex transversal is admissible but not vice-versa, see [2]. A ma α T n is said to be an isometry if and only if xα yα = x y for all x,y Dom α. If we consider α as exressed in (1), then α is an isometry if and only if x i x j = a i a j for all a i A i and a j A j (i,j {1,2,...,}). Notice that this forces the blocks A i (i = 1,...,) to be singletons, because α is one to one. In other words, α is an isometry if and only if Dom α = {a i : 1 i } = {x i + e : 1 i } = (Dom α)α +e (called a translation) or Dom α = {a i : 1 i } = {x i+1 + e : 1 i } = (Dom α)α + e (called a reflection) for some integer e. An element a in a semigrou S is said to be an idemotent if and only if a 2 = a. It is well known that an element α P n is an idemotent if and only if Im α = F(α) = {x Dom α : xα = x}. Equivalently, α is an idemotent if and only if x i A i for 1 i, that is to say that the blocks A i are stationary. 2
3 An element a S is said to be regular if there exists b S such that a = aba. The following results from [2] will be useful in the roofs of some of the results in the subsequent sections. Theorem 1.1 ([2], Theorem 2.1). Let α CP n be as exressed in (1). Then α is regular if and only if there exists an admissible transversal T α of Ker α such that t j t i = t j α t i α for all t j,t i T α (i,j {1,2,...,}). Equivalently, α in CP n is regular if and only if there exists an admissible transversal T α, such that the ma t i x i (i {1,2,...,}) is an isometry. Lemma 1.2 ([2], Theorem 3.1). For every α CP n, the artition Ker α have a maximum finer artition say Ker γ (for some γ CP n ) with convex transversals. Lemma 1.3 ([2] Lemma 1.4). Let α ORCP n be as exressed in (1) where Ker α = {A 1 < A 2 <... < A } (for n 4). If there exists k {2,..., 1} such that A k 2 then Ker α have no convex transversal. Corollary 1.4. Let α OCRT n and Ker α = {A 1 < A 2 <... < A } (for n 4). If there exists k {2,..., 1} such that A k 2 then Ker α have no convex transversal. Corollary 1.5. Let α be in CP n (res., CT n ) ORCP n (res., ORCT n ), and Ker α = {A 1 < A 2 <... < A } (for n 4). If A k = 1 for all k {2,..., 1} then Ker α have a convex transversal. The following lemma is from [3]. Lemma 1.6 ([3], Lemma 1.2). Let α CT n and let Im α =. Then Im α is convex. Now, let α = A1 A 2... A x 1 x 2... x and β = B1 B 2... B CP y 1 y 2... y n ( n). (2) The following result itemized as (i), (ii) and (iii) are Theorems 2.4, 2.5 and 2.6, resectively in [2]. Theorem 1.7 ([2], Theorems 2.3, 2.5 & 2.6). Let α,β CP n be as exressed in (2). Then (i) (α,β) L if and only if Ker α and Ker β have admissible finer artitions, Ker γ 1 and Ker γ 2 (for some γ 1 and γ 2 in CP n ), resectively, such that there exists either a translation τ i σ i and τ i α = σ i β or a reflection τ i σ s i+1 and τ i α = σ s i+1 β for all i = 1,...,s (s ), where A α = {τ 1,...,τ s } and B α = {σ 1,...,σ s }, are the admissible transversals of Ker γ 1 and Ker γ 2, resectively. (ii) (α,β) R if and only if kerα = kerβ and there exists either a translation x i y i or a reflection x i y i+1 (1 i ). (iii) (α,β) D if and only if there exist isometries ϑ 1 and ϑ 2 from Ker γ 1 to Ker γ 2 and from Im α to Im β, where Ker γ 1 and Ker γ 2 (for some γ 1 and γ 2 in CP n ) are maximum admissible finer artitions of Ker α and Ker β, resectively. We ause here to describe the shortcomings of the characterization of Green s L relation on CT n in Garba et al. [7]. The result stated as art of ([7], Theorem( 2.2) with resect to the) characterization of the 1 {2,3} {4,6} 5 Green s L relation is incomlete, because the elements α = and {3,4,6} 5 β = CT have no convex transversals and therefore ([7], Theorem 2.2) does not 3
4 say whether the two elements are L related or not. However, they are indeed L related as we shall see from Corollary (1.10). A artition Ker γ (for γ P n ) is said to be a refinement of the artition Ker α if ker γ ker α. Thus, if Ker γ = {A 1,A 2,...,A s} and Ker α = {A 1,A 2,...,A } then for any 1 i, A i = A j for some j 1 j s and thus s. A refined artition Ker γ of Ker α is said to be maximum, if ker γ ker α and every refined relation of ker α say ker θ is contained in ker γ. Moreover, if there are at least two maximal relations say ker τ i (i 2) contained in ker α, then ker γ is maximum if ker γ = ker τ i. A refined i 2 artition Ker γ of Ker α is admissible if it has an admissible transversal. The following lemma is from [2]. Lemma 1.8 ([2], Lemma 3.1). For every α CP n, Ker α has a maximum finer artition say Ker γ (for some γ CP n ) with an admissible transversal. Notice that if γ CT n then from Lemma (1.6), we see that Im γ is convex i. e., A γ γ = {τ 1,...,τ s }γ of Ker γ is convex. In view of this we give the following definition. A transformation α CT n, is said to have a refined convex artition Ker γ if γ is a refinement of α and Ker γ has a convex transversal. Thus we have as a corollary to Lemma (1.8), the following: Corollary 1.9. For every α CT n, the artition Ker α has a maximum finer artition say Ker γ (for some γ CT n ) with a convex transversal. We now deduce the characterization of Green s equivalences on CT n from Theorem (1.7). Corollary Let α,β CT n be as exressed in (2). Then (i) (α,β) L if and only if Ker α and Ker β have convex finer artitions, Ker γ 1 and Ker γ 2 (for some γ 1 and γ 2 in CT n ), resectively, such that there exists either a translation τ i σ i and τ i α = σ i β or a reflection τ i σ s i+1 and τ i α = σ s i+1 β for all i = 1,...,s (s ), where A α = {τ 1,...,τ s } and B α = {σ 1,...,σ s }, are the convex transversals of Ker γ 1 and Ker γ 2, resectively; (ii) (α, β) R if and only if ker α = ker β; (iii) (α, β) D if and only if there exist isometries ϑ 1 and ϑ 2 from Ker γ 1 to Ker γ 2 and from Im α to Im β, resectively. Proof. The roof follows directly from Theorem (1.7) couled with the fact that Domα = [n] and every admissible transversal is necessarily convex, by Lemma (1.6). Next, let us exemlify the above theorem using the counter examle we stated earlier in the beginning of this section. 1 {2,3} {4,6} {3,4,6} 5 Examle Consider α = and β = in CT Notice that the artitionkerγ = {{1},{2},{3},{4,6},{5}}(forsomeγ) isarefinedartitionofboth the artitions Ker α and Ker β. Moreover, it s admissible ( since it has a convex ) transversal {1,2,3,4,5}. Now define a {4,6} 5 ma from Ker γ to {1,2,3,4,5} by δ =. Then clearly δ is a contraction and it is easy see that α = δβ and β = δα, as required. 4
5 {1,2} {3,4} {5,6} {1,2,3} {4,5} 6 Examle Consider α = and β = in CT Notice that the artitions Ker γ 1 = {{1,2,3},{4},{5},{6}} and Ker γ 2 = {{1,2},{3},{4},{5,6}} (for some γ 1, γ 2 in CT 6 ) are refined artitions of the artitions Ker α and Ker β, resectively. ( Moreover, they ) are {1,2,3,} admissible since each has a convex transversal. The mas defined by γ 1 = and {1,2} 3 4 {5,6} γ 2 = are contractions in CT and it is easy check that α = γ 1 β and β = γ 2 α. Now, let us deduce a characterization of regular elements in CT n from Lemma (1.2). Corollary Let α CT n. Then α is regular if and only if Ker α has a convex transversal. Proof. Let α CT n. (Notice that CT n is a subsemigrou of CP n, thus α CP n.) Suose also that α is regular, then by Theorem (1.1), there exists an admissible transversal T α = {t 1,...,t } such that, t i x i (i = 1,2,...,) is an isometry. Since α CT n then by Lemma (1.6) Im α is convex and the fact that the ma t i x i or t i x i+1 (i = 1,2,...,) is an isometry imlies T α is convex. Conversely, suose T α = {t 1,...,t } is convex. Then by Lemma (1.6), T α α is convex. This means Im α is convex. And the ma t i x i (i = 1,2,...,) is an isometry. Thus, by Theorem (1.1) α is regular. In view of the above Corollary and Corollary (1.10) we give as remarks the following: Remark (i) Notice that if Ker α and Ker β both have convex transversals, then both α and β are regular and so the result in [[7], Theorem 3.1, (i), (iii)] holds only for regular elements in CT n. (ii) A transversal T α of α CT n is admissible if and only if it is convex. Corollary Let α ORCT n. Then α is regular if and only if mina x = maxa 1 x 1 = d and A i = {x i +d} or mina x 1 = maxa 1 x = d and A i = {x i+1 +d}, for i = 2,..., 1. Proof. The roof is the same as that of Corollary 4.2 in [2]. Corollary Let α OCT n. Then α is regular if and only if mina x = maxa 1 x 1 = d and A i = {x i +d}, for i = 2,..., 1. Proof. This follows from Corollary (1.15). ( Remark ) Product of( idemotents in CT ) n is not necessarily an ( idemotent. ) For examle consider α = 1 {2,3,4} {1,3} {2,4} 1 {2,3,4} and β = CT Then αβ = is not an idemotent. 3 2 A semigrou S is said to be left abundant (res., right abundant) if each L class (res., R class) contains an idemotent and it is said to be abundant if L class and R class of S both contains an idemotent [5]. That is to say that the semigrou has lentiful suly of idemotents. Examles of abundant semigrous are the regular semigrous. The study of abundant semigrous was initiated in 1979 by John Fountain [5, 6]. Since then a lot of work has been done by many authors on the study of abundant semigrous. The starred Green s relations for the semigrous CT n and OCT n were characterized by Garba et al. [7] and curiously they did not show whether they are abundant or not. We are now going to show that the semigrou CT n and its subsemigrous ORCT n and OCT n are left abundant but not right abundant, in general. The following theorem gives characterizations of starred Green s relations from [7]. 5
6 Theorem 1.18 ([7], Theorem 4.1). Let α,β be elements in S {CT n,oct n }. Then we have the following: (i) (α,β) L if and only if Im α = Im β; (ii) (α,β) R if and only if ker α = ker β; (iii) (α,β) H if and only if Im α = Im β and ker α = ker β; (iv) (α,β) D if and only if Im α = Im β. We now rove the following lemmas: Lemma Let S {CT n,oct n,orct n }. Then S is left abundant. Proof. Let α S and L α be an A1 A L class of α in S, where α = 2... A (1 n). Define x 1 x 2... x B1 B γ = 2... B, where Ker γ = {B x 1 x 2... x 1 <... < B } and x i B i (1 n). Then γ S and since the blocks are stationary we have γ 2 = γ. Moreover, observe that Im α = Im γ, therefore by Theorem (1.18)(i), αl γ, which means that γ L α. This comletes the roof. Lemma Let S {CT n,orct n,oct n }. Then for n 4, S is not right abundant. 1 {2,3} 4 Proof. Let n = 4 and consider α =. Then for 1 n 3, S is right abundant. )}, 2 Regular elements of CT n A semigrou S is said to be orthodox if E(S) is a subsemigrou of S. An orthodox semigrou is said to be R-uniotent (res., L-uniotent) if every R-class (res., every L-class) has a unique idemotent (see [12] Exercise ). If an orthodox semigrou S is both R and L-uniotent then S is an inverse semigrou. For basic concet we refer the reader to [13, 11, 18]. Lets us recall that an element α CT n is regular if and only if Ker α has convex transversal. Further, we denote Reg(S) to be collection of all regular element of S. If A is a subset of S then A denotes the semigrou generated by A. Moreover, A = A if and only if A is a subsemigrou of S and if A = S then A is said to generate S. A regular element in CP n is said to be strongly regular if and only if T α is convex. Concet of strongly regular in CP n has been introduced in [17]. We give the following remark. Remark 2.1. In CT n an element is regular if and only if T α is convex. Thus, the concets of strongly regular and regularity coincide in CT n. The following results from [17] will be found to be useful in our subsequent discussion. 6

Then the following are equivalent: (i) For all idemotents e and f of S, the element ef is regular; (ii) Reg(S) is regular subsemigrou; (iii) E(S) is a regular semigrou. Moreover, any convex transversal of Ker ǫτ is isometric to some subset of T ǫ. Hence Ker ǫτ must contain at least one convex transversal, as such by Lemma (1.6) Im ǫτ is convex, and by Theorem (1.15) ǫτ is regular. As a consequence of Proosition(2.4) and Lemma (2.5) we have the following: Corollary 2.6. Let S = CT n. Then we have: (i) Reg(S) is a regular subsemigrou of S; (ii) E(S) is a regular subsemigrou of S. 3 Semigrou of order reserving or order reversing full contractions: ORCT n In view of Remark(2.1) we deduce the following corollaries from Lemmas (2.2) and (2.3), resectively. 7
8 Corollary 3.1. Let ǫ be an idemotent element in Reg(ORCT n ). Then α can be exressed as {1,...,i} i+1 i+2... i+j 1 {i+j,...,n} ǫ =. i i+1 i+2... i+j 1 i+j Corollary 3.2. Let ǫ and τ be two idemotents in Reg(ORCP n ). Then the roduct ǫτ is also an idemotent. Now as a consequence of Proosition (2.4) and Corollary (3.2), we readily have: Theorem 3.3. Let S = ORCT n. Then we have the following: (i) Reg(S) is a regular subsemigrou of S; (ii) E(ORCT n ) = E(ORCT n ); (iii) Reg(ORCT n ) is orthodox. Next, we are now going to show that Reg(ORCT n ) is indeed a secial orthodox semigrou. However, first we establish the following lemma: A1 a+1 a+2... a+ 2 A Lemma 3.4. Let α = be an element of Reg(ORCT x x+1 x+2... x+ 2 x+ 1 n ). Then L α contains a unique idemotent. Proof. Notice that the ma ( {1,...,x} x+1 x+2... x+ 2 {x+ 1,...,n} ǫ = x x+1 x+2... x+ 2 x+ 1 ) is obviously a unique idemotent in L α. Thus we have from the above lemma and by definition that: Corollary 3.5. Reg(ORCT n ) is an L-uniotent semigrou. Notice that Reg(ORCT n ) is not an R-uniotent semigrou. To see this, consider α = α [n] = x where x x [n] are distinct idemotents in R α. ( [n] x ) and Remark 3.6. The results roved in this section for the semigrou ORCT n hold when ORCT n is relaced with OCT n. 4 Rees quotients of Reg(ORCT n ) In this section we construct a Rees factor semigrou from Reg(ORCT n ) and show that it is an inverse semigrou. Further, let Q (n) = K(n,)/K(n, 1) (4) be the Rees factor or quotient semigrou on the two-sided ideal K(n,). The roduct of two elements in Q (n) is zero if its height is less than, otherwise it is as in Reg(ORCT n ). Immediately, we have the following lemma. Theorem 4.1. The semigrou Q (n) is an inverse semigrou. Proof. It is clear from Lemma (3.4) that Q (n) is L-uniotent. Furthermore, notice that the blocks of ǫ are stationary, i. e., ǫ is an idemotent and obviously unique in R α. Hence Q (n) is R-uniotent and hence Q (n) is an inverse semigrou, as required. Remark 4.2. The results roved in this section for the semigrou ORCT n hold when ORCT n is relaced with OCT n. Acknowledgements.
