8 B r e n d a M ay C o n c e r t On Thursday November 13 th Brenda May came to entertain us. As usual she put on a great show and residents joined in singing and playing tambourines. We love having Brenda visit. She even plays on our Grand Piano for us to enjoy. C R A N B O U R N E B OTA N I C A L G A R D E N S On Thursday November 21 st residents enjoyed an outing to the Cranbourne Botanical Gardens. It was a lovely day and some residents were able to go on the tour train around the gardens while others went for a walk and enjoyed the views and birds around the area. A great day had by all. 8
9 Issue 11 Decmber 2014 On Tuesday November 11 th we held a Remembrance Day Service for the residents. With some singing, poems and special stories we were able to remember the wonderful and heroic work our soldiers, nurses and animals did for us in the wars. A video completed the stories followed by The Ode, The Last Post and the Rouse with us all upstanding for the National Anthem. It was well attended and accepted by all who were there. 9
10 Christmas is an important time for friends and family to come together to celebrate and enjoy each other s company. As a community, we too at SomerCare take the opportunity to celebrate with our residents, their families and staff. It is a time to reflect on the year that was and the achievements we have made. It is also a time to look to the future and as the New Year rolls around make resolutions or pledges for things we will try to achieve in the upcoming year. Celebrations at SomerCare kicked off with a fantastic concert from Tyabb Primary school and will build up towards our SomerCare Christmas day on the 18 th December. This will be a time for residents and staff to enjoy a meal, some special activities and be together at this important time recognizing that many will be out with family or friends on the 25 th. I'm told the Chimers will be performing which is always a treat and a part of SomerCare s tradition. For those who are here on Christmas Day there will be a beautiful meal, and residents are able to invite a special someone to share a meal with them on that day. For those who ve been good a small gift may be found under the tree. Remember to let reception know if you will be in or out for Christmas Day and to get your taxi bookings in early as recently communicated via TIQBIZ. At this festive time of year we do take a moment to think fondly of the residents who are no longer with us but who formed an important part of our community over the years. Our thoughts are with their families and their friends as they celebrate this time without them this year. For our staff SomerCare will be celebrating with an evening at Stumpy Gully Winery. We will be taking this opportunity not only to thank staff for their hard work and dedication over the year, but also to present service badges to our staff who have reached milestones of 5 or 10 years. This will become a new tradition at SomerCare. Staff are an important part of SomerCare s success and we are excited to be able to acknowledge these significant periods of service. 10

15 Remembering Gladys Cook, Joyce Shepherd, Judith Dean Do not stand at my grave and weep; I am not there. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry; I am not there, I did not die. 15
