3 A NEW FASTEST ITERATION METHOD 3 I such cases, oe must make a choice amog some give iteratio methods by takig ito accout some importat criteria For example, there are two mai criteria such as the speed of covergece ad simplicity which make a iteratio method more effective tha the others I such cases, the followig problems arise aturally: Which oe of these iteratio methods coverges faster to the fixed poit i questio? ad How do we compare the speed of these iteratio methods that coverge to the same fixed poit? There are oly a few attempts to solve such a importat umerical problem, see [3, 6, 7, 9, 16, 17, 22, 31, 34, 47, 48] The followig defiitios about the rate of covergece are due to Beride [5] Defiitio 1 [5] Let {a } =0 ad {b } =0 be two sequeces of real umbers with limits a ad b, respectively Assume that there exists (111) lim a a b b = l (i) If l = 0, the we say that {a } =0 coverges faster to a tha {b } =0 to b (ii) If 0 < l <, the we say that {a } =0 ad {b } =0 have the same rate of covergece Defiitio 2 Suppose that for two fixed poit iteratio processes {u } =0 ad {v } =0 both covergig to the same fixed poit p, the followig error estimates (112) u p a for all N, (113) v p b for all N, are available where {a } =0 ad {b } =0 are two sequeces of positive umbers (covergig to zero) If {a } =0 coverges faster tha {b } =0, the {u } =0 coverges faster tha {v } =0 to p I the sequel, wheever we talk about the rate of covergece, we refer to the defiitios give above I 2007, Agarwal et al [2] addressed the followig questio: Is it possible to develop a iteratio process whose rate of covergece is faster tha the Picard iteratio (13)? They aswered this problem by itroducig a S-iteratio method defied by (19) It was show i [2] that S-iteratio method (19) coverges at a rate same as that of Picard iteratio method (13) ad faster tha Ma iteratio method (15) for the class of cotractio mappigs satisfyig (14) I 2009, Sahu [38] was iterested i the same problem ad proved both theoretically ad umerically that S-iteratio method (19) coverges at a rate faster tha both Picard iteratio method(13) ad Ma iteratio method(15) for the class of cotractio mappigs (14) A recet study by Chugh, et al [10] shows that CR iterative method (110) coverges faster tha the Picard (13), Ma (15), Ishikawa (16), Noor (17), SP (18) ad S (19) iterative methods for a particular class of quasi-cotractive operators which iclude the aforemetioed class of cotractio operators Ispired by the works metioed above, we propose the followig problem: Problem 1 Is it possible to develop a iteratio process whose rate of covergece is eve faster tha the iteratio (110)? To aswer this problem, we itroduce the followig iteratio method called Picard-S iteratio:
