2 OCR (Oxfd Cambridge RSA) is a leading UK awarding body, providing a wide range of qualifications to meet the needs of cidates of all ages abilities. OCR qualifications include AS/A Levels, Diplomas, GCSEs, Cambridge Nationals, Cambridge Technicals, Functional Skills, Key Skills, Entry Level qualifications, NVQs vocational qualifications in areas such as IT, business, languages, teaching/training, administration secretarial skills. It is also responsible f developing new specifications to meet national requirements the needs of students teachers. OCR is a not-f-profit ganisation; any surplus made is invested back into the establishment to help towards the development of qualifications suppt, which keep pace with the changing needs of today s society. This mark scheme is published as an aid to teachers students, to indicate the requirements of the examination. It shows the basis on which marks were awarded by examiners. It does not indicate the details of the discussions which took place at an examiners meeting befe marking commenced. All examiners are instructed that alternative crect answers unexpected approaches in cidates scripts must be given marks that fairly reflect the relevant knowledge skills demonstrated. Mark schemes should be read in conjunction with the published question papers the rept on the examination. OCR will not enter into any discussion crespondence in connection with this mark scheme. 3 . Annotations used in the detailed Mark Scheme. The M, A, B etc annotations must be used on your stardisation scripts f responses that are not awarded either 0 full marks. It is vital that you annotate these scripts to show how the marks have been awarded. It is not maty to use annotations f any other marking, though you may wish to use them in some circumstances. Subject-Specific Marking Instructions. M marks are f using a crect method are not lost f purely numerical errs. A marks are f an accurate answer depend on preceding M (method) marks. Therefe M0 A cannot be awarded. B marks are independent of M (method) marks are f a crect final answer, a partially crect answer, a crect intermediate stage. SC marks are f special cases that are wthy of some credit. 3

4 3. Unless the answer marks columns of the mark scheme specify M A marks etc, the mark scheme is bed, then if the crect answer is clearly given is not from wrong wking full marks should be awarded. Do not award the marks if the answer was obtained from an increct method, ie increct wking is seen the crect answer clearly follows from it. 4. Where follow through (FT) is indicated in the mark scheme, marks can be awarded where the cidate s wk follows crectly from a previous answer whether not it was crect. Figures expressions that are being followed through are sometimes encompassed by single quotation marks after the wd their f clarity, eg FT 80 (their ), FT 300 (their ). Answers to part questions which are being followed through are indicated by eg FT 3 their (a). F questions with FT available you must ensure that you refer back to the relevant previous answer. You may find it easier to mark these questions cidate by cidate rather than question by question. 5. Where dependent (dep) marks are indicated in the mark scheme, you must check that the cidate has met all the criteria specified f the mark to be awarded. 6. The following abbreviations are commonly found in GCSE Mathematics mark schemes. - cao means crect answer only. - figs 37, f example, means any answer with only these digits. You should igne leading trailing zeros any decimal point eg 37000,.37,.370, would be acceptable but would not. - isw means igne subsequent wking (after crect answer obtained). - nfww means not from wrong wking. - oe means equivalent. - rot means rounded truncated. - seen means that you should award the mark if that number/expression is seen anywhere in the answer space, including the answer line, even if it is not in the method leading to the final answer. - soi means seen implied. 7. Make no deductions f wrong wk after an acceptable answer unless the mark scheme says otherwise, indicated f example by the instruction mark final answer. 4

5 8. As a general principle, if two me methods are offered, mark only the method that leads to the answer on the answer line. If two ( me) answers are offered, mark the poer (poest). 9. When the data of a question is consistently misread in such a way as not to alter the nature difficulty of the question, please follow the cidate s wk allow follow through f A B marks. Deduct mark from any A B marks earned recd this by using the MR annotation. M marks are not deducted f misreads. 0. Unless the question asks f an answer to a specific degree of accuracy, always mark at the greatest number of significant figures even if this is rounded truncated on the answer line. F example, an answer in the mark scheme is 5.75, which is seen in the wking. The cidate then rounds truncates this to 5.8, 5 6 on the answer line. Allow full marks f the If the crect answer is seen in the body the answer given in the answer space is a clear transcription err allow full marks unless the mark scheme says mark final answer cao. Place the annotation next to the crect answer. If the answer space is blank but the crect answer is seen in the body allow full marks. Place the annotation next to the crect answer. If the crect answer is seen in the wking but a completely different answer is seen in the answer space, then accuracy marks f the answer are lost. Method marks would still be awarded. Use the M0, M, M annotations as appropriate place the annotation next to the wrong answer.. Ranges of answers given in the mark scheme are always inclusive. 3.
