2 The Secret Curse By Sophie T. Chapter 1 Princess Hailey strolled around the castle looking for something to do. Hey Joe! called Hailey waiting for one of the loyal servants. Yes princess? asked Joe politely. Hailey muttered, I have just always been so lonely here by myself. Don t worry, you have all of us here! said Joe trying to cheer Hailey up. Oh! I have an idea, I could get a puppy! said Hailey more excitedly. Well if that would make you happier than I will go pick out one for you. No, that s ok, I want to go pick out one myself. And off she went to go find a puppy for herself. Once she got to the pet shelter, she looked for a while but just couldn t find the right one for her. But as soon as she got to the back of the pet shelter, she found the cutest little German Shepherd puppy that she had ever seen in her entire life. I do want to warn you though because Zoey is a little different than the other puppies, spoke the employee named Carlos. You re perfect, Hailey started to say and then the news finally came through to her. Wait, what s wrong with her?

3 Well she has a bit of a strange power. WHAT IS IT?! asked Hailey getting a little impatient with Carlos. Well, she can sense danger and suspicious things and will start barking and growling. Oh, that isn t so bad, said Hailey with a sigh of relief. Hailey saw the name of Zoey surrounded by jewels on her collar. Zoey! calls Hailey. Chapter 2 Zoey perks her head up. She knows that means that it s time for dinner. While they eat dinner, the castle becomes silent as they eat quickly. I m pretty tired, we should probably go to bed, said Hailey with a yawn. So, they fall into a deep sleep and wake up late in the morning. Hailey notices Zoey trotting quickly towards a mysterious room that Hailey had seen before, but never really paid attention to. Zoey, come back here, Hailey said wiping the sleep out of her eyes. Zoey s growl turned into a bark as she was scratching at the door. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The next morning, Zoey ran to the mysterious door to do her daily routine of growling, barking, and scratching at the door. This time Hailey had enough of it and was not going to let Zoey tear up the door. ZOEY! STOP IT! yelled Hailey somewhat wandering what was behind the door.

4 So, she went to open the door, but she couldn t get it open. Why can t I open this stupid door? Hailey asked herself while tugging on the door knob. Hailey starts to wonder even more about what s behind the door, so she goes off to find at least one of her servants to tell her what s behind the door and if they know where the key is. Servants! Hailey calls in the voice she usually does when she wants something. Yes princess? one of the other servants named Charlotte asks wondering if Hailey was going to ask for another pet to keep her company. I was just wondering if one of you servants knows about what s in that room and how I can get into it. Demands Hailey while pointing to the dusty, tore up door. Sorry princess, but that is not something that I can help with. Charlotte says as she walks quickly away from Hailey. I ll find a way to get it out of her, if not then I ll find out myself! said Hailey in a snotty voice. The next morning bright and early, Zoey goes to once again do her daily routine of growling, scratching, and barking at the door. Zoey please, let me at least sleep in for a little bit. Moaned Hailey. But she saw that Zoey was going to keep doing it anyway, so she walked over. By the time she got over there, Zoey was trying to dig at the dusty, hard to read welcome mat at the foot of the door.

5 I bet there s nothing in there so I should just give up. Said Hailey turning around to go back to bed. But then she heard Zoey flipping the welcome mat over, grabbing something in her mouth and dashing over to Hailey before she shut the door to her room. What is it now? Hailey asked getting a little tired of the whole situation. When Hailey finally saw, that Zoey had keys of some sort dangling from her mouth she said, What if those are the keys to that mysterious door? She took the keys from Zoey s mouth and zoomed off to the door to see if they would work. It took her awhile to get the keys in to the right place because of her fumbling hands. Then finally she turned them the right direction and opened the door. The dust made Hailey cough, and cobwebs stuck all over her, but that didn t end her excitement. Chapter 3 Hailey looks around but can t find anything special except for lots of books full of dust and a lot of cobwebs. I wonder if there is anything useful in here. Hailey asked herself. Then just as she was about to give up and go back to her comfortable bed and sleep some more, she found a note. Hailey called out to Zoey expecting a crazy German Shepard to come darting from around the corner and to jump onto her, Zoey, I found a note that might be important!

6 But there was no response coming from the dog and Hailey wasn t going to wait any longer. So, she opened it. The first part was ripped up and the hand writing was nice except she couldn t quite read it. It read: I am going away to a cave in a forest, I hope to come back someday. Until then, Lainey I think that I should probably go talk to the servants about this. I wonder who this Lainey girl is anyway. Hailey told herself. So, she set off to go tell the servants about the mysterious Lainey person was and what she was doing in the castle at one time. What if Lainey is my sister? She probably is because why else would she live here at one time? Hailey asked herself. I have always wanted a sister! Joe! Yelled Hailey making sure that Joe heard her. Yes. Princess? Panted Joe all out of breath from running to get to her. Do you know of a person named Lainey that lived here at one time? Don t tell anyone that I m telling you this, but yes, she is your sister and she locked herself in her room and never came out. Then one night, I knocked on her door to tell her that dinner was served and I didn t hear any response from her so I tried to get into her room but she had locked it from the inside and had apparently climbed out her window and ran away. Said Joe with a quiver in his voice.

7 Why did she run away? asked Hailey curiously Well because of this curse. What curse? One that makes her turn into a purple werewolf at night and she wasn t able to control her anger and she tore the first thing she saw to shreds. Why purple? Because she has purple hair. That is what makes her so unusual. And its natural not dyed. How did she get the curse? Hailey asked with part of her wanting to know and the other half not. Well, it all started when she was a baby and she was sitting on your mother s lap and before she fed Lainey, she put special powers into the baby food so it could protect Lainey from any harm later in of life. And I think that she put a little too much power into it and it affected her. It turned the baby food purple and she ate it which turned her hair purple which made the special power do the opposite of protecting her and it put her in danger by making her into a purple werewolf every night. And on the full moon, she gets even closer to turning into a werewolf forever. So that pretty much means that I need to get to the cave before she turns into a werewolf. Yes, princess that is what you re going to need to do. Chapter 4

8 Hailey decides to go out the back door so none of the other servants would know where she was going. I better get going before it becomes dark. Hailey said with a little shiver. She started walking slower as the dense fog rolled into the forest full of owls hooting and sticks breaking as she walked upon them which made her jump a little every time she stepped on one. Maybe I should head back to the castle and just not worry about this whole Lainey thing. Maybe she isn t even my sister anyway. Said Hailey with a sigh of relief. But it was so foggy that she couldn t see anything so it wouldn t really be any use to turn around to go back. Ok then, I guess that I will just go on looking for Lainey. Said Hailey pretending to be confident but was still a little worried about it. She kept walking along until she came upon a cave. She tried to look inside of the cave to see if she could see any signs of her sister but all she could see was a pitch-black tunnel throughout the cave. Lainey, Called Hailey to her sister in hopes of a reply. Please come out. She was about ready to go into the cave to grab her sister, but then she got a sickening feeling inside of her stomach and she decided not to. Lainey, I know you re in there somewhere. Said Hailey sounding braver then she ever had before.

9 Then she saw the outline of a purple-haired person that appeared to be Lainey. I m only doing this because you will keep bugging me if I don t. replied Lainey with an annoyed voice. Who are you anyway? asked Lainey wanting to get this over with. My name is Hailey. I m sorry but I don t know a Hailey. Said Lainey trying to get whoever the Hailey person was. She walked out of the cave slowly and Hailey took a step back as she saw the purple haired Lainey that was apparently her sister. You should know me because I am your sister. Said Hailey trying to prove her point. Wait, Hailey? said Lainey just realizing that it was her sister that had come to get her. Wait, how did you know that I was here? Let s just say that I found a key to your room, saw a note, picked it up and read it. I also talked to one of my servants about your curse. What!!! exclaimed Lainey sounding a little irritated. You will not tell anyone about what you know about my curse! That is when she knew that her sister was turning even more werewolf than ever before. Chapter 5

10 Ok, listen all I want to know is if there any way to cure this curse of yours. Said Hailey trying to get the truth out of her. There is only one way to end my curse before I turn full werewolf. Then Hailey interrupted, "You mean before you turn into a full purple werewolf. Anyway, the only way you can help to get rid of it is to go get this green gooey stuff that I have to drink to get rid of the half of me that is werewolf. Hey, I ve heard of that stuff somewhere. Said Hailey trying to remember where she had heard about some strange purple power. I will go off to look for it then. Wait before you go, take this vile to collect the green goo. Said Lainey hoping that this idea would work out before they would run out of time. So, she set off to find the potion she knew she had heard of before but had forgot of. Soon enough, she had come upon a glistening pond full of exactly like what she had explained, green gooey stuff. Hey! That s the stuff that Lainey was talking about. She had taken the vile that Lainey had given her and lowered her hand down to the pond, and scooped up the thick green gooey stuff. This looks very much alike to what Lainey was describing to me when she was telling me about her curse. She had spent quite a few minutes turning in circles trying to remember which way was back to the cave. When she had finally made her way back, she

11 saw something she thought she would never had seen in her life. A purple werewolf lurking towards her. Chapter 6 Hailey was half tempted to run away and get back into the warm, safe environment that she liked even more now that she felt like she was about to be eaten by a werewolf which appeared to be her sister. Now remember that most people like Lainey that are half human half werewolf, can t control the people they hurt when they are a werewolf. Or in this case, purple werewolf. Lainey please, said Hailey as she was about to run into a wall as she kept backing up when Lainey came forward. Don t eat me and instead, drink this. Grrrrrr, growled Lainey as she didn t listen and kept moving forward. At that point, all Hailey wanted was to get the Lainey which she had talked to just an hour ago and head back to the castle with her long-lost sister. You ve got to trust me on this okay. Said Hailey breathing heavily. Then she knew that she had to think quickly, so she just threw the glass vile at Lainey s mouth and hoped for the best. But just then, she transformed back into the Lainey that everyone loved and cared for. Oh, thank goodness your back! I thought that you were going to eat me. Said Hailey with a sound of relief in her voice. Let s get back to the castle and have a celebration for you returning. So they headed back to the castle and all of the servants were so happy that Lainey had returned.

12 Joe exclaimed, You did good princess, you really did. Chapter 7 The celebration started by having a huge feast with all the people from around the kingdom. Oh Lainey, it s so good to see you again! said an older woman from down the road. Then just as people were starting to dine, Lainey heard a voice calling her and Hailey s name from around the corner. Hailey come here for a minute. Said Lainey trying to think of what that voice could be. Lainey you have returned. Thank you for being so brave Hailey. I miss you. Whispered a voice from around the corner. Lainey, I don t have a good feeling about this. Said Hailey worriedly. I know that this is a little weird that there is someone calling our names but we just need to try to act normal as soon as we turn this corner. Said Lainey bravely. The voice kept coming and coming and Hailey was starting to get more and more worried each time the voice came around. Then Hailey and Lainey turned the corner and Lainey ran up and hugged the mysterious woman that Hailey had never seen in her life. Mom! said Lainey excitedly. Lainey are you sure that is our mom?

13 Then Martha (the mother of Hailey and Lainey) replied, Yes I am your mom and I ve missed you so much. Let s get back to the celebration before we find more trouble. Said Lainey. So they got back to the castle, and they had an even bigger celebration because of Hailey and Lainey s mom returning. After the celebration, Martha realized that Hailey had a dog. Oh, I love dogs! Martha said excitedly. Her name is Zoey and she is a German Shepard. After the first couple of days, Hailey got more comfortable living with her mom and Lainey didn t run away again while Zoey hadn t barked at anything mysterious for quite some time. Then, Lainey went to look in Hailey s room and she saw a little note. Hailey was not there so what Lainey feared most was going to happen. The note read I left to a faraway place, I wish to return someday and please take care of To be continued... Zoey while I m gone. From Hailey
