3 (i) Gang Gets Lost: The gang gets lost (potentially in dark woods or because they misread a map) (j) Gang Gets Kidnapped: The gang is kidnapped by the villain, escapes, and decides to try to capture him. (k) Gang Finds Haunted Item: The gang stumbles upon a haunted item (could be something like a mask or a museum artifact) and investigates its origins, leading to the introduction of the mystery. (l) Gang Witnesses Spooky Event: The gang witnesses a potentially supernatural occurrence (such as a ghost floating across a room or a UFO flying over a farm) (m) Visit Relative or Friend Victim: The gang visits a relation of one of the members, and is asked to help them solve a mystery. (n) Gang Is Hired To Solve Mystery: A person employs the gang to solve a mystery. (o) Character Introduced: A character is introduced to the gang (this could be the villain). (p) Monster Appears: The monster appears to the audience. (q) Attempt Is Ruined: The trap fails, usually because of something Scooby or Shaggy did (often the trap itself is triggered by one of the members of the gang). (r) Monster Is Inadvertently Caught: Through accident, chance, or a mistake on part of the monster, the villain is caught by the gang. (s) Breaks Down: The Mystery Machine van breaks down (a tire is popped, or the engine dies, etc.) (t) Runs Out Of Gas: The Mystery Machine van runs out of gas. (u) Crashes: The Mystery Machine van crashes, either in an accident or resulting from an action from the villain. (v) Look for Clues: One or many of the members of the gang attempt to find clues. (w) Search for Food: Shaggy and Scooby look for food (often Scooby Snacks). (x) Find Part of Costume: A member of the gang finds a part of the villain s costume. (y) Find Part of Mechanism: A member of the gang finds a part of a mechanism that the villain used to achieve an effect earlier in the show. (z) Discover Oversight of Villain: A member of the gang discovers a clue that the villain forgot to hide (such as a piece of fabric stuck inside a trap door, or paint that creates a trail to a hidden lair)

4 (aa) Trigger Mechanism: A member of the gang accidentally or purposefully pulls a lever or flips a switch, which results in that person getting trapped. (ab) Get Captured: The villain does something to trap one or some of the members of the gang. (ac) Fall Into Pit: A character accidentally falls into a pit. (ad) Become Ensnared: A character s mobility is hindered (possibly by a falling cage, or a net trap, or by a door that closes automatically). (ae) Get Lost: A character becomes lost in some area of the haunted location. (af) Escape: The character who was trapped manages to find a way to escape, or is rescued by the other members of the gang. (ag) Monster Attempts Capture: The monster threatens one of the members of the gang. (ah) Run Away: One or some of the members of the gang run away from the monster. (ai) Stumble Upon Haunted Location: The gang accidentally finds the location of the mystery. (aj) Gang Follows Leads to Haunted Location: The gang is led to the location of the mystery by following leads. (ak) Learn Nature of Mystery: The gang is told what exactly is happening at the location of the mystery. Examples The gang is travelling through a dark forest, when the Mystery Machine runs over some sharp rocks and pops a tire (s). The gang sees a small house close to a nearby lake, and goes to ask for help (ai). They are greeted by an old woman who agrees to help them if they help rid the place of some poltergeists that frequently take possessions from her house (ak). Fred, Daphne, and Velma venture to a boat house on the edge of the lake and Shaggy and Scooby enter the forest to look for clues (a). Fred, Daphne, and Velma meet the woman s nephew in the boathouse, who tells them that he thinks the old woman is imagining things (o). As they exit the boathouse, Fred notices some fishing line, hooks, and a pulley on the table where the nephew was working (v)(y). Shortly thereafter, as Shaggy and Scooby are walking through the forest (v), they see a log flying through midair towards them (p)(ag). Shaggy and Scooby become frightened and run away towards the house (ah). They tell their story to the rest of the gang, and Velma deduces that the log must have been suspended from the trees above Shaggy and Scooby. They then realize that for this to work in the house, the perpetrator must be hiding in the attic (b). Fred loosens some boards in the ceiling and ties a rope to it, so that when the poltergeist appears, they can break the floor of the attic and capture the perpetrator, and explains this mechanism to the rest of the gang (c)(d). Soon, a book starts to float (p), which scares Scooby, who runs away from it, knocking the rope out of Fred s hands (q). Scooby is moving too fast to slow down, however, and crashes into a support beam, knocking the loosened boards out of the ceiling, and making the perpetrator fall to the ground (r). It turns out to be the nephew of the old woman (e), who tells them that he was using fishing line and a pulley system

5 to steal the woman s valuables (f). The woman had notified the police beforehand, who arrive shortly to arrest the nephew, and give the gang a ride back into town (g)(h). The gang has been hired to investigate Madame Tussaud s Wax Museum, where the caretaker says that some of the statues have been coming to life and scaring customers (n)(ak). The gang agrees to split up to find clues in the museum(a).suddenly, the janitor runs in screaming that a wax monster is chasing him (o). Fred and Velma go to investigate the area that the janitor recently was (v), while the others start exploring the rest of the museum (v). While examining a statue, Daphne accidently bumps its arm (aa), opening a trapdoor that she falls into and which closes suddenly (ad). Scooby and Shaggy, oblivious to this, smell the aroma of freshly baked Scooby Snacks and begin to follow the scent (w). As they are walking, a wax statue suddenly comes alive and gives chase (p)(ag). The duo runs away (ah) and bumps the same arm that Daphne hit (aa). This not only opens the trap door (af), but also opens another hidden door in the room where Daphne was trapped. After Scooby and Shaggy calm down, they join Daphne and enter the room (v), where they discover a few wax statue costumes (x). They deduce that someone must be impersonating the wax statues (b) and go to tell Fred and Velma. Fred and Velma set up a trap to catch the villain (c) and explain to the rest of the gang how it works: Daphne will stand in the middle of a room, and when the villain comes to scare her, Fred and Velma will pull on a wire that has been placed on the ground, tripping the villain (d). Daphne, Fred, and Velma take their places, but Shaggy and Scooby smell the Scooby Snacks again and go searching. They then see the wax creature (p) and start running towards the others. Fred and Velma mistake them for the Wax Monster and pull the wire, tripping them (q). In their fall, however, they manage to bump another wax statue arm, which opens a pit right below the wax monster, trapping him (r). The gang goes over to unmask the villain (e), who turns out to be the janitor. The janitor explains that he was actually working for a competing wax museum and was trying to scare away patrons of Madame Tussaud s (f). The police arrive to take him away (g), the caretaker thanks the gang, and the crew leaves the museum to celebrate about a job well done (h). The gang is travelling along a windy road in Transylvania, when a group of bats flies into them, causing Fred to lose control and crash into a tree (u). The gang steps out of the van and sees that the bats are all flying towards a mansion on the top of a hill. The gang decides to follow them and ask the owners of the mansion for some help (ai). As they enter the mansion, the doors shut behind them and lock. The butler approaches them and states that the mansion is inhabited by evil spirits that will not let them leave (ak). Fred, Daphne, and Velma go off to try to find a way out and Shaggy and Scooby go searching for food (a)(v)(w). On the way to the kitchen, Shaggy and Scooby encounter a ghost that chases them away(p)(ag)(ah). When they reach the others, the gang notices the ghost disappear into a wall. Upon examining the wall, they notice that a black thread is stuck between two stones (z). This reveals that the ghost is not supernatural, but is just a person in a costume (b). The gang decides to set a trap: the next time the ghost goes through the wall, Fred will let go of a cage that is being suspended from the ceiling, trapping the ghost (c)(d). The members of the gang take their places and the ghost appears (p). The ghost is moving too fast, however, and Fred misses him (q). He goes through the wall, but this time the gang sees the trick: when the ghost stepped on a certain stone, part of the wall drops and is replaced by a hologram of a wall, and then put back again. The crew opens the wall and confronts the ghost (r). They unmask the villain, who turns out to be the butler (e). The butler confesses that he is just really lonely, but agrees to turn himself in for kidnapping after helping the gang with their car (f)(g). The gang forgives him, and after their car is fixed, they return to their travels (h).
