Preparing Your Magical Equipment A Guide To Blessing And Enchanting Your Magical Items
PREPARING YOUR MAGICAL EQUIPMENT Choose A Name While this isn't specifically physical equipment, it is something which is part of your life as a witch, and is a spiritual item which will affect how you succeed in magic. Most witches and wizards have a name for themselves which fits with their magical persona. We use our everyday names in everyday life, so there's no reason why you can't have a magical name for your magical life. I use "Crystal Whitestone" to reflect my own beliefs in White Magic, and the fact that crystals themselves are powerful, beautiful and mystical objects, much like myself! Choose a name for yourself that represents who you are, what you believe in, and something that makes you feel proud of yourself and your magic skills. You may not be able to decide on a name straight away, and that's OK. You could try casting a few spells first, getting into magic and then decide on a name for yourself. If in the future you want to change your magical name, that's OK too. I've changed mine a couple of times, and it wouldn't surprise me if I want to change it again in the future. Having a magical names helps you enjoy the full experience of magic, although if you'd rather just use your everyday name, that's fine too. Your Altar Your altar is where you will perform your magic. Now occasionally it is OK to perform magic while you're out and about, or on holiday, or staying somewhere that is not your own home, but generally you want to try and perform your magic in the same place every time. Over time your altar will become a magnet for energy and power, and a hub of spiritual and magical activity. Your power will grow and grow as you gain experience and your altar is there alongisde you throughout your journey.
An altar is basically a table upon which you cast your spells. It can be a simple flatpack metal table, or it can be an ornate hand crafted wooden antique. It doesn't matter. You can always cover it with a large cloth or sheet if you don't like the table. What DOES matter is that you treat it with respect and reverence, and consider it the foundation of all your magic spells. You can decorate your altar with trinkets, amulets, pendants, charms and pictures related to magic to help improve your concentration and focus, and to help get you in the mood for magic. Over time your altar will collect more and more magic from your spells and from the universe and nature, and it will become a powerful place for you to go and reflect, meditate and cast spells with success. You can start small and work up to a bigger altar in future, there's no reason you can't change your altar later on when you have more space or time to create something special. Items And Equipment It's important that any items or equipment you have to help you cast spells are properly prepared, blessed and enchanted with your own magical powers. While you can use pretty much anything straight off the shelf in your castings if you want to, I've always found the results are much better if you have fully empowered your tools. Now I don't mean you have to go out and buy a cauldron right now, I just mean that you should take a few minutes to setup your altar, your casting circle, and the most important items you will use most often such as candles, incense, water bowls, crystals and mirrors. Here's a quick, simple and effective blessing and enchantment you can use. Choose a table to be your altar, and lay out any items you have upon it (including your spell book see later section for more on spell books). Now hold your hands over the altar and the items with your palms facing downwards, and close your eyes and concentrate. Focus your power on drawing positive energy from the aether around you, and delivering that energy as a beam of pure white light through your hands and onto the
altar. Visualise the light cascading over the items and bathing them, cleansing them and making them shine with a mystical and magical glow. Speak the following words to make the blessing solid: Earth, Air, Fire, Water and Aether, I summon thee, Bless these items and empower them with your magic, That I may use them successfully in mine, With my words, let it be done, so mote it be. And you're done your items are now ready to be used in magic. You don't have to do this before every single spell though, it's perfectly OK to bless an entire box of candles all at once, and your altar only really needs doing once. Use your own judgement, if you think something is lacking in a particular "shine" today, give it an extra blessing to boost it up again. Clothing Many witches and wizards like to practice magic and perform spell casting while wearing special magical robes. Many magic shops will sell you these robes, and they come in a variety of colours, materials, styles, decorations and so on. Don't feel like you have to splash out on these sort of robes. They are not essential for magic to work, but they do add to the experience and can heighten your enjoyment of spell casting. Most witches will practice magic in their everyday clothes with great success. Just make sure you wear something comfortable that won't restrict your movement. Casting Circle A "casting circle" is basically a circle drawn onto the floor inside which you stand when casting spells. The circle is a very powerful symbol, and some casting circles have a pentagram drawn within them to increase that power. Your circle can come in many forms:
A specially made rug, carpet or mat A circle made up of twigs and leaves A circle made up of salt A circle of cushions A circle of clothes laid end to end A circle of candles (be very careful!) The circle should be placed in front of your altar. It helps you to visualise your powers, your aura and the spirits around you. It helps you by giving you a visual line to visualise the power crossing when it flows in and out of you, and it helps you to attract mystical energies towards you during your spell casting. It also helps your altar feel like more of a special "place of magic" which can become more and more sacred and precious and powerful over time. But again, don't feel like you have to go and spend money on special equipment you don't! You can use cushions or clothes to form the circle, and if you're in a hurry you can even draw an invisible circle with your finger on the floor which works just as well. Your Spell Book This is a VERY important item in any witch's arsenal your spell book. Your spell book is your own personal library of magic and spells which you've acquired and learned during your time as a witch. Over time your spell book will become very precious to you. You can also include in your spell book any magical guides which you have found that are useful to you, or anything which inspires you magically or gets you in the mood for some more spells. I would recommend that you print out this ebook and all the other companion ebooks from AllMagicSpells, and put them in a folder. Plus, any time you buy any spells, print those out too and add them into the folder. Have all the guides and other material in the front of the spell book, then have all your spells after. Maybe even separate spells by type, or have an index at the front so you can find the spells you need quickly. You can decorate your spell book with pictures, drawings, writing, paper, material, photos and anything else you feel will increase the power of the book.
Your spell book should basically be your own personal encyclopedia and library, the source of your magical knowledge and power. Give it a go. Start with something basic and keep adding to it over time. Conclusion Magic is a powerful and incredible skill to have, and you can make it a big part of your life with your own altar, spell book and other equipment. I'd love to see your magical setup photos of your altar or casting circle, pictures of your spell book, robes or anything else you want to show off. Send me an to allmagicspells@gmail.com with a little bit about yourself and your setup, and do attach pictures so I can see what you're getting up to. I have a section on my website where I feature great altars and spell books and other stuff, so if you'd like to get famous and show off a bit I can make that happen. Even if you think your setup is not very good, I'd still be very happy to see it, and so would the rest of our magic community :) Bright white blessings of love, AllMagicSpells.com
