3 C. Decoding and word Recognition Identify uppercase and lowercase letters in isolation in sequential order and in random order. (See LAL Curriculum Frameworks Grade KR Page 5 of 12) Note: Students must know the entire alphabet by the beginning of December. Understand that written words are composed of letters that represent specific sounds. 4 D. Fluency Respond to a story through movement, art, music, and drama. Identify favorite books and stories. Identify letters names in grade appropriate time limits. Speak in complete sentences. Retell a story expounding on one specific detail, which can be describing the characters, setting, events, problems, or solutions. Sharing Literature activities: Such as Big Book of Rhymes and Songs found In all themes K -1. For example, Theme 1: Mary Wore Her Red Dress and The Alphabet Song. By the end of each theme in volume K - 1 student should be able to identify their favorite story or stories by providing details such as why do they like it? And providing details of the story. Students should be assessed at least once every other week in terms of letter naming and time should be kept for fluency and accuracy. DIBELS measures this component right up to the winter benchmark administration. Sharing of Literature activities: As this activity is conducted and students are asked to respond to questions please model how questions should be answered (in complete sentences). 5 E. Reading Strategies Learn that books, environmental print (print seen in one s environment), and other printed materials have a constant meaning and provide information for the reader. (See LAL Curriculum Frameworks Grade KR Page 7 of 12) Demonstrate understanding of the constancy of print by drawing pictures and producing their own written messages to communicate with others. These messages may include scribbles, letter approximations, letter strings, and invented spellings.
