1 GeoERA Raw Materials Mineral Intelligence for Europe (MINTELL4EU) Improving and sustaining the EURMKB Pedro Delgado Department of Geological Resources Research GEOLOGICAL SURVEY OF SPAIN Horizon 2020 Co-funded project
2 GeoERA GeoERA Establishing the European Geological Surveys Research Area to deliver a Geological Service for Europe The main objective of GeoERA is to contribute to the optimal use and management of the subsurface. GeoERA will fund 15 research projects that will aim to support 1) a more integrated and efficient management and 2) more responsible and publicly accepted, exploitation and use of the subsurface. 48 national and regional Geological Survey Organisations from 33 European countries. Funding of the projects will partly be covered by the GeoERA consortium members (70%) and partly by European Commission (30%). The programme has a total budget of 30.3 M, and the projects will run for three years starting in July of
3 GeoERA RAW MATERIALS AIMS To optimize the use and management of the Raw Materials, while minimizing potential negative environmental, health and societal impacts To contribute to the development of minerals intelligence (Minerals Yearbook and Minerals Inventory) PROJECTS Mineral Intelligence for Europe (Mintell4EU) 2.9 M. Coordinator GEUS Denmark. Forecasting and Assessing Europe s Strategic Raw Materials needs (FRAME) 3.1 M. Coordinator LNEG Portugal. EuroLithos: European Ornamental stone resources 1.1 M. 4 EURMKB STRUCTURE 4
5 EURMKB Mineral Intelligence for Europe (MINTELL4EU) Improve the European Knowledge Base on raw materials by updating the electronic Minerals Yearbook produced in the Minerals4EU project and to extend the spatial coverage and quality of data currently in the Mineral Inventory. Minerals4EU Project The project was designed to meet the recommendations of the Raw Materials Initiative and developed an EU Mineral intelligence network structure delivering a web portal, an European Minerals Yearbook and foresight studies. EGDI EGDI is EuroGeoSurveys European Geological Data Infrastructure. It provides access to Pan- European and national geological datasets and services from the NGS of Europe. RMIS The Raw Materials Information System is the Commission s reference web-based knowledge platform on non-fuel, non-agricultural raw materials from primary and secondary sources. 5
