The first of these is the renewal of our ISO14001 certification, which was granted after an external audit and verifies our compliance with the highest international standards. We have also completed the 2D seismic trial, built an additional two hydro-geological monitoring stations and carried out an emergency response exercise with local Loznica medical staff and the local fire brigade. This will help us plan for potential serious incidents in the future. So, 2014 was a busy year, and 2015 will be just as focused as we move the project towards the feasibility study phase. Over the next two years, we will continue to build and refine the economic and technical case for Jadar; part of this work will be to assess the potential impacts of the project and to ensure that its benefits are shared fairly. I wish you all the best for a successful Richard Storrie, General Manager Seismic Surveys Yield Clearest Visual of the Jadar Underground Vibro Truck and Geophones during Seismic surveying in the Jadar Valley A key focus of our work to date has been to build our knowledge of the Jadar resource, and every dimension of its structure in order to fully understand in the greatest possible detail how the potential mine would operate. Our team conducted a successful 2D seismic survey in late 2014, and as results were promising, a 3D seismic survey is being considered in The Seismic surveys produce a detailed image of the rock layers below the ground. They are an important step in understanding the geological characteristics of the resource, and allow us to estimate the thickness and depth of rock layers, to identify water sources and quantities as well as fractures and faults. We are using this data to effectively assess feasibility, plan potential operations efficiently, and to minimize environmental impacts. In order to increase confidence of the mineral resource estimation and to validate the 3D seismic model, additional infill drilling would be conducted in The Jadar team has also been conducting deeper hydro-geologic drilling and has undertaken further hydro-geological studies in order to assess the water flows and water quality within the resource. These studies provide important inputs into our overall geological model and into the prospective mine design. In 2014 hydro-geological drilling was conducted at two locations within the ore body where two new hydro-nests were installed. This year, we will install multiple and single piezometric holes, covering the wider deposit area, and we will also establish a surface water monitoring program.

Preliminary 2D seismic test line tying into the Jadar stratigraphic model 3D seismic surveys provide a more detailed picture of subsurface geological conditions for interpretation by geologists than 2D surveys. 3D surveys use a grid of geophones and vibration source points to gather seismic data over an area rather than a single cross-section, and from a range of different angles. This essentially provides a 3D picture of subsurface conditions resulting in much more detailed information for building into the geological model.

The images produced by the survey enable geologist to accurately understand the structure and potential of the resource and to minimize potential environmental impacts. Seismic surveys are a critical part of the Jadar project s pre-feasibility studies, which are determining if the Jadar project is viable technically, economically and socially, and if the resource can be responsibly developed. A Seismic Survey of the size of the Jadar ore body will typically take two months, and require significant investment due to the technology required. Rio Tinto is committed to negotiating in good faith, and to reaching voluntary agreements with landowners before conducting research on their land. In 2014 and in prior years we have built a foundation that we will continue to expand upon and strengthen in 2015, and in the future. Regular stakeholder engagement at the local level is a mainstay of our approach. In 2014, monthly meetings were held with the municipal focal point, Ljiljana Nikolić, Head of the Local Economic Development department (LED). Regular meetings serve as the main channel for information exchange between Rio Tinto and the Loznica municipality. As an element of the close cooperation and information exchange with the Municipality, Rio Tinto has reached out to representatives of state-owned companies and other experts for pre-feasibility consultations. These consultations have yielded more profound insights, valuable information on Loznica and its industrial zones, urban planning and local socio-economic and demographic data all of which are important inputs for the prefeasibility study. Quarterly Community meetings were convened in Brezjak and Draginac, and one extraordinary meeting was organized late in the year specifically for women, who have historically been under-represented at the community meetings. Beyond the community and town hall meetings, senior Rio Tinto managers also meet regularly with the Mayor Vidoje Petrović and municipal executives. Rio Tinto has enjoyed long-term and fruitful cooperation with the Loznica-based fire and rescue unit, and has received special recognition for its contribution to development of civil protection from the Ministry of Interior s Sector for Emergency Management. Cooperation has also continued with the center of scientific excellence, Petnica, whose students occasionally visit the Jadar project. Rio Tinto s support for the excavation and archaeological research in the Paulje region has been critically important, and without which research would not have been sustained. In December, the Jadar museum organized an exhibition commemorating 25 years of excavations, which included artifacts that have been unearthed over the past four years due to Rio Tinto s support.
