O. Smith to compile a World International Geological Map at 1:1M scale. 1913: 12 th IGC (Toronto). Achievement of the first edition of the Geological map of Europe at 1:5M and creation of the Commission for the Geological Map of the World 2013: 100 years of existence 1

2 CGMW is a non-profit-making scientific and educational non-government Organization (NGO) affiliated to IUGS since 1966 and to IUGG since CGMW programs are carried out in partnership with geological surveys, universities, oceanographic institutions and industrial firms, and with the support of IUGS and UNESCO. Our members are Geological Surveys of countries and territories around the World Most significant realizations in the last years 2

Charts and detailed information on ratified GSSPs are available at the website Numerical ages are subject to revision and do not define unit s in the Phanerozoic and the Ediacaran; only GSSPs do. For boundaries in the Phanerozoic without ratified GSSPs or without constrained numerical ages, an approximate numerical age (~) is provided. Numerical ages for all systems except Triassic, Cretaceous and Precambrian are taken from A Geologic Time Scale 2012 by Gradstein et al. (2012); those for the Triassic and Cretaceous were provided by the relevant ICS subcommissions. Chart drafted by K.M. Cohen, S. Finney, P.L. Gibbard (c) International Commission on Stratigraphy, May
