2 The Ketzin Test Site ~ 25 km west of Berlin located in the North German Basin only active national storage project

6 The Ketzin Test Site start of injection: June 30 th, 2008 CO 2 quality: 99,9 % food-grade 2 CO 2 -tanks each with 50 t CO 2 (liquid, - 18 o C/19 bar) injection conditions ~ 35 o C/62 bar 1 electrical heater, 300 kw, ambient air-heater injection rates: 24 to 77 t/day CO 2 arrival at Ktzi 200: July 15 th, 2008 after 530 t CO 2 (as expected) CO 2 arrival at Ktzi 202: March 22 nd, 2009 after 11,200 t CO 2 (notably late based on pre-injection models)

7 Injection operation actual mass of injected CO 2 : ~ 45,000 t (permitted maximum: 100,000 t) injection runs safe and stable

15 Future tasks and projects - continue injection (presumably until 2012/2013) - move to impure CO 2 - continue monitoring (e.g., 2 nd 3D repeat) - install and perform additional monitoring techniques (InSAR, CSMT) - drill shallow (~ 450 m) observation well in first aquifer above cap-rock (planned for summer 2011) - drill fourth deep (~ 700 m) well for monitoring and core recovery (planned for summer/autumn 2012) - after end of injection study smart abandonment techniques and materials
