1 ENGLISH ANDERNACH AN ENCOUNTER WITH THE WORLD S HIGHEST COLD-WATER
2 ONE VISIT THREE EXPERIENCES THE CENTRE the expedition begins,5 HRS MINS 5 MINS H Travel imaginarily 4,000 metres to the interior of the earth to the source of the geyser, the volcanic carbon dioxide. During your tour through the modern interactive exhibition you will learn what happens underground before it comes to the eruption of the enormous water fountain and how the geyser is connected with the volcanism of the Eifel. CENTRE 5 MINS BOAT TRIP 5 MINS SHIP AHOY the discovery journey continues A spectacular natural attraction is awaiting you in the Middle Rhine Valley. About every two hours, the world s highest cold-water geyser shoots an impressive fountain up to 60 metres to the sky. The fascinating journey to the geyser starts at the Geyser Centre with a trip underground. After that, you can enjoy a boat trip on the Rhine to the Namedyer Werth nature reserve. There you will see a rare natural phenomenon: Geyser Andernach. Visitors to the three-part Geyser Andernach attraction can look forward to a varied programme that is perfectly suited for all age groups. Your expedition will take a total of about three hours. Geyser Andernach is located in the romantic Middle Rhine Valley on the Namedyer Werth peninsula, a unique nature reserve. Our boat will take you across the most famous German river, the Rhine, to the home of the cold-water geyser. ANDERNACH experience the elemental force of nature The highlight of the journey is now close ant hand: The power ful eruption of the world s highest cold-water geyser! After a short walk of about 50 m, you will reach the eruption site. The eruption is preceded by hissing and gargling before the fountain majestically rises into the sky. A refreshing natural spectacle! After the geyser eruption, our boat will take you back to the Andernach Rhine Gardens.
3 HISTORY OF THE AROUND 900 Observation of rising gas bubbles from the oxbow lake of the Rhine at Namedyer Werth. AS OF 904 Use by Namedyer Sprudel GmbH for the production of carbon dioxide and mineral water. 985 Namedyer Werth becomes a nature reserve. 008 Entry in the Guinness Book of Records as the world s highest cold-water geyser. 05 / 6 Extensive reconstruction measures and enlargement of the exhibition at the Geyser Centre. 90 Initial drilling, geyser fountain over 40 metres high. 957 Last eruption of the geyser. Damage to the well leads to decreasing yield. 00 Reactivation of the geyser through renewed drilling following geoscientific investigations. 009 Opening of the Geyser Centre. The three-part Geyser Andernach attraction is completed. More volcanism to be experienced
4 Krahnenberg Mariendom A Runder Turm E F Alter Krahnen D B C Vater Rhein A Start Your journey to the centre of the earth begins in a quarry. Watch the research team at work. A great start! B Going deep You go 4,000 m deep by lift to the source of the geyser. Here, you will encounter a CO molecule which you will accompany on its way from magma to the surface of the earth. C Meeting On your journey with the CO molecule, a decisive meeting will occur: The rising CO encounters groundwater. Requirements for a cold-water geyser are met. D Vents Now you will accompany the groundwater enriched with CO on its way to the earth s surface. You are learning more about the drilling of the well and the different eruption phases. E Above ground Back to the surface of the earth, you will get an insight into the volcanic Eifel landscape and learn about volcanoes in other countries. F Namedyer Werth You are reaching the Namedyer Werth nature reserve. The expedition reaches its impressive climax with the eruption of the geyser. Geyser Centre: Exhibition Boat trip to the geyser Geyser
