1 FDOT Level 2 Roundabout b/c Evaluation This spreadsheet tool compares the cost of a roundabout to the cost of a traditional intersection, as specified by the user. A traditional intersection is defined as a stopcontrolled or signalized intersection and serves as the basis for comparison to the roundabout. A User Manual for this tool is available from the FDOT Roundabout Group For the purpose of safety analysis, the spreadsheet tool requires variable input for Safety Performance Functions (SPFs) and Crash Modification Factors (CMFs). The Highway Safety Manual (HSM) defines SPFs as equations that estimate expected average crash frequency and allow for the correction of shortterm crash counts. Similarly, CMFs are factors that estimate the potential changes in crash frequency or severity due to the installation of particular treatments. The following costs are incorporated into the spreadsheet tool comparison: Safety Delay to persons in vehicles Operations and Maintenance Capital Construction Costs Safey and Delay may be excluded from the analysis through use of a dropdown menu. Capital Construction Costs may be excluded from the analysis by not entering them. The following conventions are used throughout this spreadsheet: data entry field optional data entry contains default values which may be overridden Red text provides instructions 1 To begin, move to the MainENTRY tab and enter the required information into the the orange cells. Most information is entered on the MainENTRY Tab. 2 Move to the AdjustSPF tab to enter roadway and intersection geometry information that is used in safety calculations. 3 Move to the DelayENTRY tab to enter delay information. 4 Move to the RESULTSLife Cycle Costs tab to view results. 5 The last three tabs (O_SafetyCalculation, D_SafetyCalculation, and CostCalculation) only perform calculations and do not need to be viewed or modified.
