1 A is a visual representation, or model, of part or all of the earth. lines are imaginary lines that run east to west around the globe; they are also known as parallels. They show distances in degrees north and south. lines are imaginary lines that run north and south; they are also known as meridians. They show distances in degrees east or west. Half of a globe is called a. The globe can be divided into northern & southern or into eastern & western hemispheres.
2 The of a map tells you 2 things: the location & the type of map. Physical Map of Canada The of a map tells you how much smaller the map is than the actual area. The on a map tells you direction. The explains the symbols & colors on a map.
3 A is a way of showing a curved object on a flat surface. Sizes, shapes and distances can be distorted on a projection. The Projection shows the world as a rectangle. Many places sizes look different than they actually are. The Projection shows the world as an oval. Many places look similar to their actual size & shape. The Projection shows land masses, shapes and sizes correctly, but distances are distorted.
4 A map shows landforms and bodies of water, as well as elevation. A map shows features & boundaries that humans have made, such as cities, states & countries. A map focuses on a certain type of information, such as population, environment, climate, etc. A map uses color, symbols, or lines to show ideas or patterns.
5 A uses a places size and shape to communicate a piece of information. A map shows the movement of people, goods or ideas. A map uses contour lines to show the shape and elevation of an area. A map shows roads, highways, as well as things like airports, parks, etc.
