5 Instructor: Dr. Karen Beardsley, USA Phone: Course Goals: This course presents the basic concepts, principles, and methods of GIS. Data structures, database design, GIS data creation, global positioning systems (GPS), and spatial analysis techniques are emphasized. Online data sources, aerial photography, cartographic design, and graphic communication are presented in lecture and lab. Course Prerequisite: An introductory course in elementary computing such as PLS 21 is recommended (though not required) and an introductory course in statistics such as STA 13 is recommended (though not required). Lab assignments (exercises and reports) are due the following class at the beginning of lab. Late lab assignments will be docked 20% for each day they are late.
