10 GEO-REF Information Sharing Eco-Efficient water Infrastructure, Asia and the Pacific economic development, resources consumption, climate change Rapid Economic Development (together with unplanned urbanization + rapid industrialization); At the cost of high resources & energy (esp. fossil fuel) consumption, high GHG emissions, etc.); high water withdrawal; Less per capita water availability; and lack of water sanitation; The availability per capita water in the Asia-Pacific region - the second-lowest in the world as a result of population size and misuse and overuse of the supply; This has increased water pollution (due to release of industrial as well as domestic/urban untreated wastewater); climate change/increased extreme weather events; Resulting in unusual and increased floods and droughts., as well as uneven distribution of fresh water due to change in rainfall pattern; Grow first, clean up later - unsustainable development path; Need to move from current brown growth to green growth pattern/from current unsustainable path to a sustainable path.
11 GEO-REF Information Sharing Eco-Efficient water Infrastructure, Green Growth: What and Why? Brown Growth Depletion of resource caused by climate change / misuse and overuse of the supply Unsustainable / Unforeseeable Future Sustainable / Foreseeable Future Tackling resource constraint: eco-efficient resource management Green Growth
