2 Aims of report Why did we do this? Understand performance of 11 countries in the Baltic Sea and Nordic region across the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Identify challenges & discrepancies in performance across the region Use results of analysis to inform strategy and prioritization of activities of CBSS and NCM Distribute report to generate discussion and allow other actors in the region to use and learn from results
3 SDGs as unifying agenda, enabling measurement of progress Agreed upon by 193 UN members in 2015 Bold and ambitious guiding posts for action (can be seen in analysis results) 17 SDGs, 169 targets, 232 indicators complex, but allowing comparison across countries Around the world, governments both national & local, private sector & civil society are embracing goals and aligning activities to SDGs Regional and sub-regional frameworks can facilitate the effective translation of sustainable development policies into concrete action at national level Baltic 2030: Bumps on the Road Stockholm June 14 th

5 SDG Index and Dashboard: Starting with a baseline & measuring progress Created by Bertelsmann Stiftung & Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) not affiliated w/ UN Analysis of SDG performance across 157 of 193 member states All CBSS states included Based on 99 indicators for which data is available Report includes actual data and normalized values to allow ranking for comparison Country-level measurement, but indicators applicable for regions & municipalities Indicators on spillover-effects included Most complete available source for SDG implementation on country level Baltic 2030: Bumps on the Road Stockholm June 14 th
