1 Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY AND BIOCHEMISTRY Office: F. W. Olin Hall, Room 0 Mail Code: 90 E. Iliff Ave. Denver, CO 8008 Phone: cheminfo@du.edu Web Site: The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry offers a program of study that combines a traditional classroom emphasis with an innovative laboratory experience. In addition to providing excellent training for graduate study in chemistry and biochemistry, the program serves as a means to earning a strong pre-professional degree. A degree in chemistry, biochemistry or environmental chemistry prepares students for a variety of careers in chemical and biochemical research, medicine, life sciences, environmental science, atmospheric sciences, materials science, oceanography and teaching in chemistry or science in general. It also prepares students for employment with chemical, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical products, natural resources and environmental companies. Because most medical and dental schools require a minimum of two years of chemistry for admission, a major in chemistry or biochemistry provides an excellent background for premed or pre-dental majors. Students who complete the bachelor of science in chemistry curriculum are certified by the American Chemical Society.
