9 Principles of Solubility Nature of solute and solvent Most nonelectrolytes that are appreciably soluble in water are hydrogen bonded (methanol, hydrogen peroxide, sugars). Other types of nonelectrolytes are generally more soluble in nonpolar or slightly polar solvents such as benzene or toluene.
