1 Table of Contents Overview...1 Lesson Plans...2 Helps...2 CD...2 Videos...2 Homework...2 Labs...3 Tests...3 Bob Jones Chemistry Items...3 Overview The latest Bob Jones Chemistry textbook and lab manual is in the 3rd edition, but the 2n'd edition is still available. There is an accompany CD with the 3rd edition that is not available with 2nd edition. The Bob Jones chemistry text book is a rigors comprehensive text that is similar in difficulty to a freshman chemistry test. It is well suited to prepare a student for college, but often difficult for a student to use in a home school setting unless a person with some chemistry background can mentor the student. Bob Jones chemistry focuses on both theoretical chemistry and descriptive chemistry, with an emphasis on theory. The text helps the student to study atomic theory, kinetics, thermodynamics, and stoichiometric relationships. They learn how to observe, classify, measure, hypothesize, organize, calculate, formulate models, interpret data, test hypotheses, and predict results on their own. Students can also develop laboratory skills by using the recommended basic equipment in nonthreatening, safe, experimental procedures requiring minimal on-site facilities. The text and lab manuals describe both demonstration and student-performed laboratory experiences. The text book is divided up into to chapters with each chapter divides into 3-4 sections, (go to to see the 2nd Edition chapters and section). There are Section Review Questions after each section, and a set of Chapter Review
2 Questions at the end of each Chapter. The answers to both section review and chapter review questions are found in the teacher edition. There are also vocabulary words at the end of each chapter the student needs to know. There is an easy to use glossary at the end of the book that helps the student with the vocabulary terms. There are interest items that are inserted in the text called "Chemistry Facets" that go into the background of topics, people and other items of interests relevant to the particular section they are in. There is a lab manual that has a teacher edition with solutions to the lab questions. There is a separate test package with an answer key for each chapters and also comprehensive test with keys for combined chapter tests. For the 3rd edition there is an accompanying CD with support materials more than 200 visuals. Lesson Plans The lesson plans follow the sequence of the Bob Jones Chemistry text, with corresponding chapters for Apologia reference if the student prefers the Bob Jones Text. Helps These are links to websites that have material relevant to the topics covered in each chapter. I have not checked each website thoroughly so parent should review the websites with their child. CD For the 3rd edition there is an accompanying CD with support materials more than 200 visuals. Videos Videos will be recommended as appropriate that will help reinforce the topics taught in each chapters.
3 Homework Homework problems are provided at the end of each section (section review) and also at the end of the chapter (chapter review). Answers to the both the section and chapter review questions are found in the teacher manual. There are also vocabulary words at the end of each chapter the student needs to know. There is an easy to use glossary at the end of the book that helps the student with the vocabulary terms. Labs Labs for each chapter are presented in a separate lab manual that has a teacher's edition with answers. Tests There is a separate test package with an answer key for each chapters and also comprehensive test with keys for combined chapter tests.
