A. P. Rao Prize and Medallion (Chemistry), awarded by Ramnarain Ruia College, Mumbai University, recognizing good academic record and excellent extra-curricular achievements, RESEARCH EXPERIENCE Post-doctoral Research Projects Surface spectroscopy of nanomaterials used in electrochemical fuel cells as alternative renewable energy sources: Operation and maintenance of laser laboratory to develop sumfrequency generation (vsfg) spectroscopy as the in-situ probe of surface interactions occurring at the nanocatalytic systems used in electrochemical reduction of CO, and ethanol oxidation, with applications fuel cells. Research Projects and Collaborations Graduate Program Ultrafast vibrational dynamics of interfacial water at oxide surfaces: Development of timeresolved vibrational sum-frequency generation (vsfg) spectroscopy methods for the S.Dewan 01/08/2016 1
2 measurement of the ultrafast (sub femtosecond) vibrational relaxation of the O-H modes of interfacial water in contact with charged mineral surfaces (silica and alumina). We aim to develop a fundamental understanding of how addition of on alters the behavior of interfacial water at mineral surfaces. Effect of salt on the silica/water interfaces as a function of bulk water ph. Using vibrational- SFG spectroscopy we showed how hydrogen-bonding in the first few interfacial layers of water at charged silica surfaces changes with ph and how addition of salt affects this change. Collaboration with Dr. Mohsen S. Yeganeh, Senior Scientist, ExxonMobil Research Corporation. Molecular Dynamics simulation of structure of interfacial water at charged surfaces: Using Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations to study how surface charge and ions structure the interfacial water region at a SiO 2 surface. Collaboration with: Dr. Vincenzo Carnevale, Prof. Michael Klein, Institute of Computational Molecular Sciences, Temple University. Nanomaterials by design: On-pot synthesis and characterization (TEM, FTIR, Fluorescence spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy) of semiconductor nanoparticles by shaped femtosecond laser ablation and identification of the photoluminescence contribution from the solvent laser irradiation product. Collaboration with the Dr. Robert Levis, Temple University. Non-linear optical studies of coherent control of surface reactions: Using Second Harmonic Generation to monitor stability and oxidation of semiconductor surfaces for real-time feedback in coherently controlled photoexcitation. Collaboration with Lockheed Martin Advanced Technology Laboratories. PROFESSIONAL APPOINTMENTS Post-Doctoral Fellow Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, John Hopkins University August Present Research Assistant Summer July 2015 Chemistry Department, Temple University, Philadelphia, PA, USA Development of a new sum-frequency generation spectroscopy setup to study mineral/water interfaces to develop a fundamental understanding of structure and dynamics of interfacial water.
